5 History Of Hylands Hylands House is a spectacular Grade II* neo-classical villa la originally built in 1730 as a modest Queen Anne style mansion. Throughout the years the House has been enlarged and transformed by different owners. Chelmsford City Council purchased the estate in 1966 and has completely restored the building to produce the beautiful House you see today. The stunning interior reflects the different stages of the building s history, with beautifully restored Victorian and Georgian rooms that evoke the opulence and elegance of their time. The exquisite white stuccoed exterior, with its graceful columns, brings to life the nineteenth century design of the celebrated architect, Humphry Repton. 7 Wedding Ceremonies Several rooms on the Ground Floor of Hylands House are licensed for Civil Ceremonies and Civil Partnership Ceremonies. These include the beautifully ornate Drawing Room and elegant Library, which provide exquisite settings for ceremonies up to 80 guests. Alternatively, you may prefer the intimacy of the Small Dining Room or Terrace Room, which are ideal for ceremonies with up to 35 guests. There are no minimum number requirements. Reception Drinks Following your ceremony, while photographs are being taken, you may like to serve drinks to your guests. The Entrance Hall, Small Dining Room, Grand Staircase and Terrace Room each provide perfect settings. ( 6

9 Wedding Breakfast Formal meals for up to 80 people are taken in the beautiful surroundings of the Banqueting Room. For something more informal, buffets can be served in the Terrace Room. Evening Receptions The central rooms of the House are ideal for a celebration or evening reception with up to 120 guests. The Terrace Room seating & an area for an evening buffet The Entrance Hall perfect for dancing The Grand Staircase ideal for our in-house bar service We can also provide quieter rooms on our First Floor that you can use as a changing area. For more information, please contact our Wedding team. Wedding Carriages We have three beautiful Suffolk Punch Horses at Hylands, Holly, Roy and Fergie. They are owned and looked after by Hawthorn Heavy Horses, and can be seen grazing on the estate throughout the year. The team provides a range of services including carriage rides, and can be booked for your wedding, either to provide a formal wedding carriage for the bridal party, or providing rides for guests around the park. 13 How to Book Your Wedding STEP 1 For more information, or to book your wedding at Hylands House, please call our Wedding Co-ordinator on to arrange an appointment. This will allow you to view the House, ask questions and discuss your plans for the day. We are happy to provisionally hold a booking for two weeks to allow you to confirm your venue and date choice. STEP 2 If you are having a civil ceremony you will need to contact the Registrars to check availability for your preferred date and time. The Chelmsford Registrars can be contacted on STEP 3 To confirm your booking complete and return your booking form and deposit (please see enclosed copy of form for details). STEP 4 We will write back to you with a Confirmation Pack and your Wedding is booked! Our dedicated Wedding Team will be with you every step of the way. You will have a final meeting several weeks before the big day to ensure everything runs smoothly and so you can relax and enjoy your special day. ( 12
