1 HOW TO CREATE A NEW ON-LINE CPD RECORD 1. From the Homepage, enter address (<<Main Address>>) and password (<<Web User>>) in the Login area (right hand side on Home page). IF ALREADY LOGGED IN, GO TO STEP You can go straight to your own CPD on line record via the My CPD record (right hand side of the BIFM homepage). The first time you enter the following screen will appear. 3. Once the record has been created, you will go straight to the screen shown in STEP 4. Input your training and qualifications. 1

Click on the relevant link (in blue) to create/edit any of the following components: Account - content summary Employment record previous employment history Experience (also includes function to print a CPD certificate) enter all experience including training and events Questionnaire take the competence questionnaire Plan check your outstanding competences Action add an action note to your CPD record 2

Account Once components have been populated, the account screen automatically gives details of: When the account was set up Competence questionnaire latest modification date Latest employment record Latest experience Summary of training and qualifications (input via Account tab) Suggested events- events that might be of interest to you in your region 3
4 6. Employment Record Add/ edit/ delete your job roles 4
5 7. CPD Experiences Add/ Edit/ Delete your CPD experiences/ activities. This can be done with or without a unique Event ID. For instructions on how to enter Regional and SIG CPD events, using the unique Event ID issued at the event, please skip to STEP 8. The screen above will now appear. Enter a Brief Description, which should adequately describe the event and the date of the event. Now enter the Learning Outcome and Impact on work as follows: Learning Outcome = Reflects upon what has been learnt through a CPD activity, and is an important part of the development process and a good opportunity for individuals to honestly consider what new knowledge and skills they have developed. Impact on Work = Aims to focus on how to use and maintain new competence/s. Alongside considering how a developmental activity contributes towards personal competence, individuals may consider whether any of what they have learnt should be shared with colleagues and if so, how. Tick related competency from list if required, please see STEP 8. 5
6 8. How to create an Experience using the unique Event ID issued at a BIFM Regional or SIG CPD event: Add event number here 6
7 EVENT ID: Enter the Event ID supplied by the BIFM Regional or SIG Event Organiser & press Add. This will then automatically update your CPD Experience with details of the event. Now enter the Learning Outcome and Impact on work as follows: Learning Outcome = Reflects upon what has been learnt through a CPD activity, and is an important part of the development process and a good opportunity for individuals to honestly consider what new knowledge and skills they have developed Impact on Work = Aims to focus on how to use and maintain new competence/s. Alongside considering how a developmental activity contributes towards personal competence, individuals may consider whether any of what they have learnt should be shared with colleagues and if so, how. 7
8 The Competences will also be populated by the Event ID. It is possible to amend these to reflect your own personal development gained from the CPD activity/ event. The? is a help function, which gives an overview of each of the 20 BIFM competences. 8
9 Once you have entered an event using this method, you will also have the facility to create a CPD Certificate (as shown below). Create a certificate 9
10 Enter against the Certificate option and the following screen will appear giving you the facility to print off a CPD certificate, populated by the Event ID. If you have a header/ footer appearing on the Certificate print out, you can remove them as follows: FILE> PRINT PREVIEW and/or PAGE SET-UP and remove the HEADER/FOOTER info 10
11 9. Questionnaire Rank yourself against the BIFM Competences in order to plan future CPD. The? is a help function, which gives an overview of each of the 20 BIFM competences. 11
12 10. Plan The CPD plan illustrates the areas of your knowledge that could be enhanced. This is based upon the data entered via the Questionnaire and CPD experiences tabs. Under Suggested events, there is a link to a list of BIFM CPD events which may fulfil these gaps (or may contribute to and support your professional development). 12
13 Under this section of your CPD account, there is a link to a list of suggested BIFM CPD events (in your region and nationally), which may help you to fill gaps identified in your knowledge. This is based on the first section of your plan, according to the ratings in your questionnaire (2 star rating and below). 13
14 11. Action Having identified the gaps in the plan section of the record, the next step is to prioritise your development needs and draw up an action plan on how these are to be met. A drop down menu allows you to designate a proposed action plan against the relevant BIFM competency. Following are aspects you should consider when creating an action: Objectives what do you want/ need to learn? Action what do you plan to do to achieve this objective? Resources what support do you need to achieve this? Reflection what do you aim to do with this new knowledge? Timescales target completion dates 14
15 12. Printing your record It is possible to print off a copy of your Employment record, Experiences etc. See instructions below for how to print from the Experience tab. This can be replicated for the other tabs in your CPD record. On the main Toolbar, menu, enter FILE> PRINT PREVIEW (see screen below) 15
