1 Essential Oil Basics With Young Living Essential Oils I am so excited for you to learn about essential oils and discover how they may be beneficial for you and your family. We have seen incredible results with our family, made lots of lifestyle improvements and developed a wellness program to help us achieve our goals. I am thrilled to help you do the same! What are essential oils? Essential oils are the life blood of the plant, meaning they behave for the plant like blood does for our bodies. Essential oils are the clear, volatile substance that carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells, removes waste and helps to restore damage. Essential oils are vital to the health, protection and growth of a plant and if they are carefully transferred from the plant to the bottle, they will offer the same therapeutic benefits for our bodies. How do essential oils work? Essential oils are tiny molecules that travel through the blood stream and nerve pathways to areas in need of support. Just as they would in the plant, they help to deliver nutrients and oxygen, remove waste and support cellular function. How do I use essential oils? Essential oils can be used in a variety of ways: 1 Aromatically - Inhale the oils using a diffuser, by smelling directly from the bottle, or by applying a few drops to your hands and cupping them over your nose and mouth and inhaling deeply. - Ex: Stress Away can be calming, Peppermint can energizing, RC is great for respiratory support. 2 Topically - Dilute essential oils with a carrier oil and apply on location or to the spine, pulse points or VitaFlex points on the feet. The oils will quickly travel through the blood stream or nerve pathways to the areas in need of support. - Ex: Lavender, Frankincense and Tea Tree are wonderful for supporting the skin; DiGize can be helpful for supporting the digestive system. 3 Internally - Only the purest essential oils are safe for ingestion. Often oil companies will cut corners during distillation, add synthetics, or alter the oil in some other way. This is why quality and knowledge of your oils sourcing in critical. - Therapeutic grade essential oils can be added to a glass of water or rice milk, or added to an empty capsule for internal consumption. They may also be added to your favorite food recipes. - Ex: Lemon in water or in sugar cookies; Lime in NingXia Red cocktail or in guacamole.

2 How do I choose a reputable company? There are many things to consider when choosing an essential oil supplier. Because I use these products for therapeutic purposes on my family, I prefer to use the best available. You should be able to call customer service for any essential oil company and find the answers to these questions. How long has the company been in business? Young Living Essential Oils was founded in 1994, making it the forerunner of all essential oil companies. What is the background of the owner? Before building Young Living and on through today, Gary Young has spent decades traveling the world learning about natural remedies and essential oils from the French, discussing Frankincense harvesting with the royal family in Oman, and discovering, analyzing and testing new varieties of essential oils. He is credited as one of the world s great authorities on essential oils. Is There a Qualified, Experienced Aromatherapist on Staff or On Retainer As a Consultant? Gary Young and his associates have written countless books explaining the safe use of essential oils. Additionally, Young Living maintains a laboratory staff that routinely tests every batch. A certification can be obtained in a matter of months. Young Living s staff includes PhDs, MDs, scientific researchers, Pharmacists and Naturopaths. Does the company perform 3 rd party testing on their oils? Young Living conducts in-house expensive and extensive GC/MS testing on each batch. Additionally, Young Living voluntarily submits its oils to regular 3 rd party testing. Does the company have detailed information on their oils, and is that information accurate? Young Living is the only essential oil provider that owns their own farms. Detailed information including which field the plants were grown on, the weather conditions they endured, the date and time of harvest and laboratory testing results are all known and available. A bottle of oil can be labeled as 100% pure but 3 rd party testing may reveal the contents of the bottle to be something different. Some key phrases to help identify the purity of an essential oil include: - Do not ingest. - For external use only. - A listed expiration date The presence of any of these phrases may indicate there is something else in that bottle other than pure essential oil.
