Using Print/Copy/Scan devices There a number of print/copy/scan devices located around University libraries, for further details click here; Using the Networked Printers Information Services provides a variety of high quality networked laser printers throughout the university. You can use them from computer pool rooms, from libraries and from your laptop on all main sites of the university. How much does printing cost per sheet? Black & White A4 single-sided 4p Black & White A4 double-sided 4p Black & White A3 10p (only available at Grand Parade) Colour A4 20p Colour A3 50p Paying for your printing with your UniCard Before using the printers you must first add credit to your UniCard account either by: Topping up your UniCard account online at OR Using a Printer Credit Station (see below). Using a Printer Credit Station to add credit to your UniCard You can add credit to your account using one of the blue Printer Credit Stations in the following locations: Printed Wednesday, 26 October 2016 Page 3
4 University of Brighton Information Services Falmer: Falmer Library 110; Mayfield House ground floor Grand Parade: Computer Suite 3 rd floor; St Peter's House Library Moulsecoomb: Aldrich Library ground floor These stations will accept 50p, 1 and 2 coins only. They also have note readers which accept 5, 10 and 20 notes. Please note that unused credit will not be refunded and the stations do not give change. Before putting any money into a Printer Credit Station, you must log on with your usual username and password. Credit can be added at any Credit Station and used in any University of Brighton library or pool room. 1. If you are in the Aldrich Library, swipe your UniCard in the Printer Credit Station and skip straight to step 10 of these instructions. If you are not in the Aldrich Library, touch any area of the screen until a window labelled 'Identifying Yourself' appears. You are asked to enter your username and password. You will now discover that there is no keyboard, but don't panic! 2. At the top right of the screen you will see a miniature keyboard. 3. If you touch this mini keyboard a much larger version should appear. If it doesn't work first time, keep trying until it does appear - you may find you have to try pointing slightly higher and further to the right to be successful. 4. Using the large keyboard, type your usual university computer login name (e.g. fab61) into the box labelled Logon ID. 5. If you think you have made a mistake, press the key to delete the last character(s). 6. Press the tab key to move to the Password box. 7. Type your password into the Password box. It will appear as a row of ***. 8. Press the Enter key to log in to your printer account. If you are unsuccessful an error message will appear telling you that 'The Logon plug-in was cancelled'! Simply press OK, to close this message window and try again. If you continue to have difficulty logging in to your account, ask your local pool room advisor for help. Page 4 last update Oct 2016
5 Printing your Work If you are successful your Account Details will appear, but the important information may be hidden behind the large keyboard. 9. Close the large keyboard by pressing the bottom right key labelled 10. Look in the bottom left corner of the screen to see your Balance Total. If you can see this you are ready to add credit to your account. The Log Out button Your balance total is here. If the keyboard is covering this area, click the.key to hide it. 11. Putting in money: Remember that Printer Credit Stations do not give change. Unused credit will not be refunded. 12. If you now insert coins (50p, 1 or 2), or notes ( 5, 10 or 20), into the Printer Credit Station, you should see the Balance Total increase. Remember that Printer Credit Stations do not give change. Unused credit will not be refunded. If you have any problems inserting money, contact the Service Desk. 13. Press the Log Off button before leaving the Printer Credit Station. You've just added credit to your printing account. You wouldn't want anyone else to use it would you? Always log out when you leave an open access computer! If you don't, someone else could tamper with your files, send in your name, or use up your printer credit. Printing your document from a University computer 1. Before printing a document you should: save any changes you have made Printed Wednesday, 26 October 2016 Page 5

For example, using one of the network points in the libraries, or using the wireless network. When you print a document via the mobile printing service it will wait in a queue until you go to the Printer Release Station, located within the Print Room, and 'release' it (see below). Releasing your document using a Printer Release Station Your document will not print until you release it from your nearest Printer Release Station; these are normally located next to the Blue Printer Credit Stations. They look like a standard PC.Your document will wait in the queue for up to 24 hours. To release your document and send it to the printer, 1. Go to your nearest Printer Release Station. 2. Press any key to display the Log in screen. 3. Enter your usual login name (username) into the Logon ID box. 4. Enter your password into the Password box. 5. Click the Log on button. 6. If you do nothing, your document will stay in the queue for 24 hours from the time you sent it to be printed. Your document will then be deleted from the queue and you will not be charged.
