1 CONNECTING TO THE DTS WIRELESS NETWORK USING WINDOWS VISTA There are three steps to accessing the web through the DTS wireless network. 1. Obtain the wireless network Username and Password. This is something you have to do once only. 2. Configure computer and browser to connect to the network. This is something you have to do once only. 3. Login. This is something you have to do every time you wish to use the network. Obtain Username and Password You must know the wireless Username and Password in order to login. This is not the same as the DTS ID and password you use to register, nor is it the same as your library ID and password. There are two main ways to obtain this information. Use any Internet connected computer to view the following page: Contact the library circulation desk in person or by phone at You must provide your DTS ID number and your library pin/password to prove who you are. Library personnel cannot see the pin/password in your library record, so they must go through several steps to verify the information you supply is correct. You can change your PIN immediately if you wish. Configure Computer and Browser 1. Start the Connect to a Network dialog box. There are several different ways to do this, including the following. Click Start, and then click Connect to from the Vista desktop. Click on the wireless network icon located in the Windows system tray, then click Connect to a network. Click Start, then click on Control Panels Network Connections, then click Connect/disconnect wireless networks. Wireless_using_vista.pdf Page 1 of 6

2 2. In the Connect to a Network dialog box, select DTS-W-PneumaNet and click on Connect. 3. This will produce a warning about an unsecured network. Click on Connect Anyway. (For information about security on the network, see ) Wireless_using_vista.pdf Page 2 of 6

3 4. At the following window, check Save this network and Start this connection automatically and click Close. These options will save you time in the future. 5. Open your browser. 5a. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you may get the following message. If so, click on Continue to this website. Wireless_using_vista.pdf Page 3 of 6

4 5b. If you are using Mozilla Firefox you may get the following error windows. First, select Accept this certificate permanently and then click on OK. On the next screen click OK again. 6. You should now see the DTS wireless network login/authentication screen. If you reach the login screen then you have successfully configured Windows and your browser to connect to the DTS wireless network. Wireless_using_vista.pdf Page 4 of 6

5 Login You must know the wireless Username and Password in order to login. 1. Open your browser. If your software is properly configured, then it should automatically connect to the DTS wireless network and display the Authentication (login) page. If it does not display the authentication page, then repeat the steps above to configure Windows to connect to the wireless network. For assistance, contact staff in the Media Center. If it does display the authentication page, supply the wireless network Username and Password, and click Log in. You may choose to have your browser save the network Username and Password so you won t have to type them again, but you will have to access this portal page every time you reconnect to the DTS-W-PneumaNet wireless network. 2. After you submit a Username and password, the network will report success or failure as follows. Wireless_using_vista.pdf Page 5 of 6

6 2a. If successful, you will see the following page. You may now type in an address or website you wish to visit. 2b. If unsuccessful, the Authentication Failed page will display. Check to make sure you have the correct Username and Password. Remember, this is not your Student ID and library pin! Click on Try Again and then re-enter the correct Username and Password.
