2 A BIG Thankyou Dear (school). Firstly we would like to thank you for choosing to raise money in aid of the Mersey Forest Foundation. We really do appreciate your support and it s thanks to fundraisers like you that we have been able to plant almost 9 million trees in the Merseyside and Cheshire area so far equivalent to 5 trees for every person living in the forest area. The Forest has many benefits for young people, from reconnecting with nature, encouraging active play, stimulating learning and improving health and wellbeing. The Forest is foremost an investment in our future helping to combat climate change, improving air quality, reducing flood risk as well as increasing biodiversity and wildlife. 3 How the money YOU raise will help the forest: - With gift aid. With Gift Aid 10 allows us to create vital homes for wildlife within the forest 50 will help towards maintaining the woodlands we have planted so far ensuring the trees survive and thrive for decades to come 100 will help the Mersey Forest to deliver forest school sessions to children most in need who don t have access to green spaces or nature at school or at home 500 would help cover the cost of 300 trees to be planted and maintained ensuring the forest continues to grow

4 Fundraising Ideas Here are some fun ideas you could do to help raise money: Non Uniform Day Why don t you and your class organise a non-uniform day? This is where you can leave the uniform at home and come to school in your favourite clothes instead? It doesn t take long to organise at all and is fun! All students will need to do is donate 1.00 at registration to be able to spend a whole day out of daily uniform Talent Show Everyone has a special talent, whether it s a percussion instrument, singing, acting or getting together with a group of friends and learning a dance. You can charge a small fee for other students in the school to watch, you could have a collection tin at the event, you could invite parents and families along too!

5 Art and Photography Exhibition This is where you can get REALLY creative. Why not take photos of the beautiful trees in the area and display them for sale at an exhibition within school. Or create art out of leaves, acorns or conkers. This is especially fun around Christmas time where you can make decorations for the tree and sell them. Growing and Selling Flowers, Fruit and Vegetables Children love to plant and watch things grow and what better way to raise money than by growing and selling your own flowers fruit and veg. These could be sold at a stall at the school fair or at a parents evening or even to the staff. Sponsored Walk around the School Grounds Another idea could be to set out an orienteering trail around the school grounds with different trees (or pictures of trees) as the markers. Children could follow a map to find the trees and be sponsored to complete the walk by parents and friends.

6 More Information Sponsorship You ll find a sponsorship form at the back of this pack which you can print off and photocopy to use to collect your donations Just Giving and Virgin Money giving.com and uk.virginmoneygivong.com are websites that allow you to set up your personal fundraising page to collect donations for the Mersey Forest. They are both simple to set up and you can add your own story, pictures and videos to your page. Once it is set up your friends and family can donate their money without you having to collect it later Gift Aid Gift aid provides donor with the opportunity to increase the value of their donations, if they are a UK tax payer and live in the UK. Gift Aid allows the Mersey Forest to claim an extra 25 pence for every pound which is raised with no extra cost to either the sponsor or the fundraiser. So for example if you raise 1, with Gift Aid this is worth around 1.25 to Mersey Forest. People can sign up for Mersey Forest to claim Gift Aid on their donations by ticking the box on the sponsorship form and including their full name and address. If they are donating at your JustGiving or VirginMoney page they will collect GiftAid for Mersey Forest.

7 Finished your Fundraising? Congratulations You should all be really proud of yourselves. You ve done an amazing thing. Your money will help us to continue to plant more trees in the forest helping to combat climate change, improve air quality, reduce flood risk as well as increasing biodiversity and wildlife in the area for years to come. After Your Event Please Remember To: Thank everybody that helped people who sponsored you, your friends and teachers and anyone who helped you organise the event Tell everyone how much you raised, you could write a story and include a photo in your school newsletter or on the notice board Make sure you ve collected all the money that has been pledged to you on the sponsorship forms and send the final
