1 General Information Accreditation The Office of Continuing Medical Education, David Geffen School of at UCLA, is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Office of Continuing Medical Education, David Geffen School of at UCLA designates this live activity for a maximum of 12 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The California State Board of Registered Nursing accepts courses approved by the AMA for Category 1 credit as meeting the continuing education requirements for license renewal. Nurses from states other than California should inquire with their local state board for specific continuing education policies. Disclosure The FDA has issued a concept paper which classifies commercial support of scientific and educational programs as promotional unless it can be affirmed that the program is truly independent and free of commercial influence. In addition to independence, the FDA requires that non-promotional, commercially supported education be objective, balanced, and scientifically rigorous. The policy further states that all potential conflicts of interest of the CME staff and faculty be fully disclosed to the program s participants. In addition, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education policy now mandates that the provider adequately manages all identified potential conflicts of interest prior to the program. We at UCLA fully endorse the letter and spirit of these concepts. 4 Friday, February 27, :30 am - 3:00 pm 2015 CPQCC Pre-CAN Workshop DESCRIPTION The 2015 California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC) workshop will focus on California datasets, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and The Joint Commission s Perinatal (TJC) Core Measure related to Exclusive Breast Milk Feeding. The California datasets that will be explored include California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC), California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC), High Risk Infant Follow-up Program (HRIF), and the California Perintatal Transport Systems (CPeTs). Their utility in benchmarking quality care and value will be explored related to the neonatal population. The topic of neonatal abstinence syndrome will also be explored. The current state-wide and national approaches to decreasing current variation in medical management will be presented and discussed. Finally, the Joint Commission s reporting requirements for enhancing exclusive breast milk feeding in all newborns and its impact on delivery services will be presented and discussed. A panel discussion related to exclusive breast milk feeding will address challenges to implementation and lessons learned. OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of the program participants should be able to: Identify existing California datasets (CPQCC, CMQCC, HRIF, CPeTS etc) and their utility in benchmarking quality care and value. List three areas of potential quality improvement that you will explore by using at least one of the California datasets discussed. Define Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and discuss the current state-wide and national approaches to decreasing current variation in medical management. Describe the current TJC reporting requirements for exclusive breast milk feeding in all newborns and find ways to overcome barriers to implementation. INTENDED AUDIENCE The California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC) workshop is geared towards multidisciplinary teams of caregivers from neonatal units that include; neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, as well as hospital risk management and quality improvement specialists who can implement change in the management of the topics presented.
