2 Our Lady of Guadalupe! Patroness of the Americas yes, not just Patroness of Mexico, but all the Americas! Join us as we travel to Mexico City, where in 1531, the apparition of Our Lady to St. Juan Diego took place. She asked that a Shrine be built, where she would pour out her grace upon those who invoked her aid. The bishop asked for proof that this really was Our Lady... and Juan Diego brought him roses out of season, carefully arranged by Our Lady. And the miraculous portrait was left on the cactus fiber cloth tilma as the roses spilled out in front of the bishop. Another miracle the portrait still exists The cloth should have decayed into dust in 30 years! Yet nearly 500 years later, the miraculous image is still the centerpiece of the shrine. Millions were converted! And we should be too! Come, join our group we selected our travel dates so that teachers and staff can join us. Itinerary Come Join Us! March 19, Day 1 - Depart to Mexico City from Albuquerque. Upon arrival we are transferred to the hotel in the historical area; an active area filled with shops, markets and restaurants. Welcome Mass at will be celebrated in the afternoon. Rest of the afternoon is at leisure. Overnight Mexico City. (Dinner at the hotel) March 20, DAY 2 - MEXICO CITY: OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE SHRINE Morning buffet breakfast at hotel. Today we have the entire morning at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas where we celebrate Mass. We then visit the Plaza of Three Cultures, the baptismal site of Juan Diego. In the afternoon visit the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. Overnight Mexico City. (Breakfast and dinner at hotel) March 21, DAY 3 - MEXICO CITY Morning buffet breakfast at hotel. Our full day tour of Mexico City starts with a visit to Chapultepec Park where we see the famous Archeological Museum (entrance not included). Then on to the Metropolitan Cathedral, where Blessed Juan Diego's Bishop, Juan Zumarraga, is buried and Zocalo Square (Main Square from the time of the Aztecs).Mass is celebrated at the Cathedral. Visit the National Palace, now the seat of the Mexican Government. The Church of Santo Domingo that we see contains two shrines- Our Lady of Rosary and Our Lady of Covadonga and we have time to explore both. Our tour continues to Xochimilco to make a boat promenade through its channels in one of its typical Trajineras (Mexican Boat Trip). Dinner at AzuleJos Restaurant tonight. Overnight Mexico City. (Breakfast and special dinner) March 22, DAY 4 - CUERNAVACA - TAXCO Morning buffet breakfast at hotel. 3 visit to Cuernavaca, the City of Eternal Spring to see the Borda Gardens and Palace of Cortes, housing murals by Diego Rivera, the famous Mexican artist. Our next stop is Taxco. Words cannot describe this magnificent place, only a feeling and one must go there to experience the sensations brought about by a visit to this City in the Clouds. We have time to bargain for silver treasures and see the mines from which the silver come. A late afternoon visit to the Church of San Prisca where we celebrate Mass. Time will be scheduled for shopping and exploring the market and many artisan shops that line the narrow cobblestone streets. Overnight Mexico City. (Breakfast and Dinner at hotel) March 23, DAY 5 - CHOLULA- PUEBLA Morning buffet breakfast. We board the motorcoach for a drive to Puebla - City of the Angels and Churches. The ride today takes us through the famous Cortes Pass. On the way we see Cholula, a town very rich in Mexican history. Cholula is where the world famous Cinco de Mayo (May 5 th ) battle occurred. Cholula also claims to have a Chapel for every day of the year! Here we see what s reputed to be the largest pyramid in the world. On top of the pyramid lies the Church of Our Lady of Good Remedy. Later, we visit the Church of Tonantzintla where the most beautiful example of Indo-Christian decoration can be admired. Continue to Puebla, the fourth largest city in Mexico and a great example of Spanish colonial architecture. The Puebla region is famous for its beautiful Churches and its hand painted Talavera tiles. We visit the unforgettable Chapel of the Rosary. Celebrate Mass at Santa Clara. We then visit the Cathedral, Santo Domingo Church, the Santa Monica religious museum, and Church of St. Francis to see the incorrupt body of Blessed Sebastian. In the afternoon, we have time to shop in the openair market and bargain for souvenirs and silver. Overnight Puebla. (Breakfast and Dinner at hotel) March 24, DAY 6 - OCOTLAN- SAN MIGUEL Buffet breakfast at hotel. After breakfast we visit San Miguel del Milagro (site of the apparition of St. Michael to Diego Lazaro). Our next stop is Tlaxcala City for a visit to the Monastery of San Francisco-one of the first Catholic buildings in Mexico. The city is known as the Lourdes of Mexico because of its miraculous statue and spring water. Then depart for Ocotlan, where we see the Shrine of Our Lady of Ocotlan. We celebrate Mass in Ocotlan at 11:00AM. This is where an image of Our Lady appeared in a burning tree. We have time to fill our bottles with water from the healing well. Overnight Mexico City. (Breakfast and a special farewell dinner at a local restaurant with music) March 25, DAY 7 - MEXICO CITY- Buffet breakfast at hotel. This morning we celebrate Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe followed by transfer to the airport and your return flight home. Airline, seating and special requests: The seats are assigned by the air- lines. We do not reserve specific seats. You may change your seat, provide mileage program information and passenger contact information directly with the airlines once the ticket numbers are received. ( Approximately three weeks prior to departure). All special needs and requests due to medical or dietary restrictions must be requested in writing at least 60 days prior to departure. Business class and premium coach seats are available upon request as are add- ons from your hometown airport. Single supplement: A limited number of single rooms are available at an additional cost of $ per person cash payment. Prices are based on two people per room. Baggage: Each participant is permitted to check (1) suitcase weighing no more than 50 lbs., and one small carry- on bag on the plane. Airline baggage fees are not included. Within 60 days of departure all payments are nonrefundable regardless of reason for cancellations. All cancellations must be in writing. Unused portions of the trip are not refundable. The insurance premium must be received with the deposit to cover pre- existing conditions. Insurance premiums are nonrefundable in case of cancellations. Fuel surcharge and taxes are subject to change at time of final invoicing.
