1 Aquatic Programming and Swimming YMCA Northumberland is the largest provider of aquatics programming in the county. Between public swimming, aquatics fitness classes, aquatics leadership courses and quality swimming lessons, there s an aquatics program for everyone in your family at YMCA Northumberland! Practice only makes perfect if the skill is practiced correctly. Active and Wet: Your child will engage in vigorous physical activity as they learn. YMCA Learn to Swim and Star Programs are designed for children to be 100% in the water and swimming. LEARN TO SWIM YMCA National Learn to Swim program encourages growth and development as one learns fundamental swimming skills. Our swimming lessons build confidence through a multilevel teaching approach, allowing children to learn at their own pace. Highly qualified instructors teach children, youth and adults how to swim and develop lifelong water safety skills. The YMCA Swim Program delivers a nationally recognized curriculum that is equivalent to and transferable with the Red Cross and Lifesaving Society Swim Programs. Private Swim A great way to get more out of your swimming experience is to take a private or semi-private lesson. Our aquatics staff can work with you to help you get the most of our each swimming stroke and increase your power. Open to all ages. Learn steps to improve all aspects of your technique. Feb 17th) PROGRAM LIL DIPPERS An eight level, values based water activity program for preschool-aged children: 6 months to 3 years - with adult. 3 to 5 years old - with or without adult Members - FREE Non-members: 9 weeks $54 10 weeks $60 Splasher/Bubbler (6 mo-3 yrs) Bobber Caregiver assisting child program to develop comfort in the water familiarity to environment & to promote water fun. One parent/caregiver per child. Gaining comfort in the water, over progressions blow bubbles and gradual immersion of face, front and back floats with assistance. * * * 12:00-12:30 Floater Glider Diver Surfer/Dipper Must be comfortable entering and exiting pool on their own, as well as putting their face in the water. To complete the Floater level child must be able to float on their front and back and complete a 5 m swim unassisted. * * * Must be able to float, swim 5 m unassisted in shallow water. Must be comfortable with beginning the transistion from shallow to deep water with assistance. * * * * * * * Comfort in the deep water. To complete Diver, 10 m back and front swim with leg and arm action. Front float and back float in deep water. * * * * * * * * 11:00-11:30am * * * To complete Surfer level: surface support for 30 secs, front and back swim with arm action and flutter kick up to 15 m., side breathing, face-in w/buoyant aid. 4 Swim PROGRAM LEARN TO SWIM The purpose of this program is to help build values and orient individuals age 6 and over to fundamental swim skills. Members - FREE Non-members: 9 weeks $54 10 weeks $60 Otter Beginner swimmers. To complete Otter level: Submerge holding breath, front and back float unassisted, front and back swim 5m. unassisted. * * * 11:30am-12:00 Seal Beginning to utilize the deep end on a regular basis. Build endurance and stamina to proceed on to length swimming. To complete Seal level: surface support for 20 secs. front and back float in deep water unassisted, front and back swim up to 10 m. * * 6:30-8:00pm* 11:00am-11:30 Dolphin Building endurance and stamina for length swimming and stroke instruction. To complete Dolphin level: tread water in deep water for 30 secs., front glide with kick, face-in, side breating 15m., front and back swim w/ arm and leg action 15m. jump into deep water and swim 25 m. (length of pool). * * * * 11:00am-11:30am* Swimmer To complete swimmer level: initial standard of front crawl must be maintained for 25 m. Back swim 25 m.
