2 Builder Camp Here Comes Summer! Here Comes Camp Curiosity! Sign up early at the Festival of Cultures to get your lanyard and a head start Free Comic Book Day family fun Nerd Camp Foodie Camp Base Camp Band Camp Game Camp Space Camp Official launch day is Wednesday, June 1 Everybody does an age-appropriate Base Camp after that, you design your own experience, choosing from various camp themes As you complete each camp, you earn badges, raffle entries, and much more Keep going all summer, finishing up with an optional Field Day August 14 If you don t sign up at the Festival of Cultures, report to the Camp Office in the library s east lobby or on the bookmobile starting June 1 to sign up. Read for fun this summer and reawaken your curiosity as you discover some new delights. It s especially important for kids to read all summer so they keep up their reading skills, but let s keep that a secret among the grownups. Let the kids think they are just having fun! And nobody gets left out there are camps for adults and teens, too. The fine print: Camp Curiosity is exclusively for Skokie cardholders. Make sure you have your library card for sign up! Knit and CROCHET ALL THE WAY Tuesdays // 4 6 pm Bring your own needles or hooks and yarn. Open Sew Fridays, May 6 and June 3 // 3 5 pm Use the library s sewing machines and embroidery machine to work on projects or practice your sewing skills. Space and supplies are limited. Saturday, May 7 // 12:30 3:30 pm Comic book fans, rejoice! Free Comic Book Day is back, and we will be celebrating with an afternoon of games and activities for all ages. Test your knowledge with a trivia competition, create a cool superhero craft, and pick up a free comic book while you are at it. Music from Brazil Choro de Lá pra Cá Sunday, May 8 // 3 pm The trio of Skokie flutist Julie Koidin and Brazilian musicians Diogo Guanabar (mandolin, cavaquinho, and guitar) and Caio Padilha (guitar, rabeca, and vocals) started when Julie visited Natal, Brazil, in 2014 to research contemporary choro. The musical chemistry was immediate! Each musician comes from a completely different musical background Julie with her classical training, Diogo growing up with choro and having a strong interest in jazz, and Caio who has an affinity for folkloric music and a background in theater. They will be joined by Camila Masiso, a Brazilian singer from Natal. Family Movie The wiz Live! We ll provide all the supplies; just come prepared for calm, creativity, and conversation.

Prepare your library skills for the game of the season. Booking with a Buddy Children entering grades 1 3 can participate in this fun literacy program designed to promote reading outside the school year. Little buddy participants spend nine hours over five weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays reading with big buddy volunteers who range from junior high school students to senior adults. Time slots will be assigned Monday, June 27 Wednesday, July 27. Space is limited, and the last day to register is June 5. JR HIGH Summer Volunteering Teens entering grades 6 12 gain valuable experience, meet new people, and serve the community by volunteering at the library this summer. Apply online May 1 15 for a chance to join one of the weekly volunteer groups listed below. Learn to jump and land properly, and scale new heights for your workout plan. Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes and clothing for this hands-on workshop. Learn the ins and outs of successful babysitting during this three-day clinic. Guest speakers from the Skokie community will help you master babysitting basics, tips for staying safe while babysitting, and developmentally appropriate activities to help you plan for kids of all ages.
