It seems once the Christmas lights and decorations come down from the Oval, the feeling of starkness comes to mind especially if there is no new snow to cover over the spaces. But one can look forward to the warmer weather and the beautiful greenery in the days ahead. Many, many thanks and appreciation to Santa and his helpers, the Milford Lions, the Milford Fire and Police Departments for their support and assistance in making the Oval the center of such magical glory during the holiday season. This puts our community on the map for all generations past and present. Out with the old, in with the new...did you make a resolution? Resolutions are often made as a new year begins but how many actually stick to them? It is difficult to say but perhaps a good assessment is that we do resolve to do better, to make a change for the better whether it be for personal renewal or for humanitarian benefit. With that being said, let s continue with our resolution in service. Happy New Year, let it be a happy, healthy and successful one! 2 JANUARY HIGHLIGHTS Due to the uncertainty of the winter weather conditions, we had cancelled the Senior Dinner that was scheduled for Saturday, January 23 and moved it to February 20. The Mid-Winter convention that was held Friday through Sunday, January 29-January 30 at the Marriott Nashua was attended by six members of the club; ID Ed Farrington, Lion Elaine, PCC Ray Hill, Lion Sandy Hill and Zone Chair John Wynne and Lion Rhonda Wynne. Further information and photos can be found in this month s district newsletter, The Roar. We were able to participate in the River Card Room, 10 days in January and it was a great fundraiser in that the club was able to bring in over $10,000 to help replenish our accounts. FEBRUARY HIGHLIGHTS February 3, 2016, marked our charter date as we now begin our 57th year of service. We also welcomed and inducted new member Trent Blalock during our membership meeting on February 16, Welcome Trent to our Milford Lions family and for your helping hand. As stated, the Senior Dinner was moved to February 20 and the weather was great. Approximately 123 were in attendance and enjoyed a Turkey Dinner along with the entertainment of Mr. Dave Alcox (DJ) and the recipients of many, many gift baskets (approx. 30) that were donated by Lion members. Each year it seems to get better and better...and many had indicated that they had a great meal, a great time and was very appreciated by all. Many, many thanks to all the members who participated and contributed with a special thank you to Lion Beth San Martino who chaired this big event. GREAT JOB Lion Beth! 3 Where s ED? On January 4th ID Ed celebrated his 60 Birthday with family and friends. Happy Birthday ID Ed, best wishes for many, many more happy and healthy ones ahead! Through the years, the club has been involved in completing numerous large projects for the benefit of the Milford community. A Skateboard Park at Keyes Field along with a Pavilion at the MCAA field on North River Road and most recent a community park known as Lions Park located off Route 13N. The Milford Lions strive to meet the needs of their community and to serve the community whenever the need exists. These projects were completed for the benefit of the community to be enjoyed now and for many years to come recognizing all the men and women who volunteer and dedicate their lives through community service. In addition to the service to the blind and the hearing impaired, Lions participate in service activities emphasizing on health, education and research, work with the physically and mentally impaired, environmental issues, community welfare, international understanding and our youth.
