1 Exeter Deaf Academy Fundraising Sponsorship Pack Sunday 6th September 2015 I Fore Street, Exeter City Centre, EX4 3AN THANK YOU for choosing to support Exeter Deaf Academy Every donation we receive is essential to ensure that we can continue to enable Deaf children to fulfil their potential; by supporting them to acquire language, develop socially and emotionally, achieve independence and excel educationally.

2 Getting started Congratulations on getting an Exeter Street Slide place and thank you for choosing to support Exeter Deaf Academy. Now that you have registered your slide place, here are some useful tips to help you get started and raise as much money as possible for the Deaf Academy: Start early Start as early as you can and set yourself the fundraising goal you want to achieve. Consider the size of your target carefully. If you set one too low, people may give smaller donations accordingly; equally, if you set a high target, people will consider it wholly unattainable and may give nothing. Be prepared to increase your target as you get closer to it. The most important thing is to make a start and begin to let people know what you are doing and why. Start by asking One of the best ways to raise money is just to ask - it is no more sophisticated than that. Write a short, succinct , summarising what you are doing (the challenge), why you are doing it (the purpose), when you are doing it, and how the money raised will be spent. Include a link to your fundraising page and ask those you contact to pass it on to anyone that they think might be supportive. Keep track of who you have asked Your first request for sponsorship can slip people's minds - they are busy and there was probably never any intention to ignore your first request - they just need nudging occasionally. Don t be afraid to remind people, especially as you get nearer to the day of the slide. Ask your employer for their support Many employers will match the funds you raise or can at least make a substantial contribution. Share your story If your local community has a magazine, ask if you can write an article. Keep it short and if they can print a photo of you, supply one. You'd be amazed just how many people read these articles, and act on what they ve read. You've got a great news story to tell, so ensure that it gets told. Set yourself achievable targets Set yourself small weekly fundraising targets rather than thinking about a daunting total target. Put a notice up in your gym, local church or children's school Use this as a way to promote your event, or you can mention the link to your online sponsorship page and ask people to sponsor you online.

3 Don t forget to Gift Aid Don t forget to ask for Gift Aid as it means more money goes to the charity. Ask to be on your company, school or college website See if your company, school or college would be prepared to post details of your event or a link to your online sponsorship site from its public website or private intranet. Many companies, college s and school s like to promote the charitable efforts of their staff and students, plus you could get a lot of extra donations from this. Fundraising ideas There are lots of different ways to raise money for Exeter Deaf Academy that don t include asking friends and family for sponsorship. Here are just a few ideas; Organise a car boot or jumble sale and add the proceeds to your sponsorship total Hold a dinner party for friends and family and ask everyone to make a donation Ask your local supermarket for permission to hold a bucket collection in store Organise a donation table Exchange unwanted books and DVD S for a suggested donation at work or school Organise a charity car wash at work, school or at home Hold a sweepstake with friends or colleagues Organise a dress down day at work or school Organise a gym challenge or static bike challenge and include as part of your training Ask friends and family for donations in lieu of birthday cards and cakes Organise a quiz night with colleagues, friends or family Organise a charity pancake race Organise a pumpkin carving competition at work or school Organise a guess the baby or teenager competition at work or school Guess the number of sweets or Easter eggs in a jar Give up a favourite food or drink in exchange for donations Raise sponsorship by cycling or walking to work or school and include it as part of your training Organise a pamper night with friends or family and ask everyone to make a donation Hold a dress in purple day at work or school Make a personal donation instead of sending Christmas Cards Organise a charity bake off and cake sale

4 Setting up an online fundraising page Setting up your own online sponsorship page is the easiest and quickest means of collecting immediate support from friends, family and work colleagues. There are several websites available where you can set up your own fundraising page and sponsorship form, however two of the more popular sites are: exeterdeafacademy Did you know? You can reach more people and raise more money by setting up an online fundraising page. You can create a page in less than a minute, and your friends and family can donate in less than 20 seconds. Sponsorship money donated via your fundraising page is sent directly to us, so you don t have the hassle of collecting all the money pledged to you. Remember to personalise your page add a photo and state why you have chosen to fundraise for Exeter Deaf Academy. You can also contact the Deaf Academy Fundraising Team if you need further information about the charity. Ask close friends and family to donate first as other people may then match their generosity. You can edit your page at any time with updates and news. Promote your fundraising page in your signature, Facebook and/or Twitter page, your blog and website. Time your donation request as people are more likely to be generous with their sponsorship after payday. Social media Social media is one of the most effective ways to promote your fundraising or event and it s FREE. Don't forget to post details of your event or a link to your online sponsorship page on your profile. Send a message to all your friends and contacts telling them what you're doing - you'll be surprised who might support or sponsor you. Post updates of your progress and post a thank you message on friends' pages when they sponsor you - it keeps your fundraising in the news feed. 7 Returning your sponsorship money Once you have completed your challenge you will then need to collect any sponsorship you have raised from friends, family and colleagues. If you have set up an online sponsorship page, any money raised will come directly to the charity, so there is nothing more you need to do. However it is always a good idea to include a thank you message on your page and let supporters know how you got on. This can also sometimes encourage some last minute donations.
