2 Location Cork, built on the River Lee, is situated on the south coast of Ireland and is the second largest city in the country. Located in one of the most picturesque parts of the country, this area offers beautiful scenery. While Cork has some of Ireland s most traditional and historical towns and villages dotted throughout its countryside, its city centre crackles with youthful energy. The abundance of art galleries, shops and restaurants makes Cork a vibrant and diverse city renowned for its friendliness and relaxed charm. About the College Cork University is situated on 44 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds bordering the River Lee. The university dates back to 1845 and caters for almost 11,000 students, during the academic year. The university is only 5 minutes from the city centre and has excellent accommodation and sports facilities. Accommodation Students stay on campus in the Castlewhite or Victoria Lodge apartments. The standard accommodation, in the Castlewhite apartments, is arranged in apartments that have 4 or 5 tastefully furnished single rooms. Each apartment has a fully fitted kitchen, living room, shower and bathroom. The en suite accommodation in Victoria Lodge apartments is arranged in apartments of 2-5 rooms. The bedrooms are all en-suite single rooms and the apartments include a shared living room and fully fitted kitchen. All bedrooms are supplied with bed linen and towels. Lessons Each lesson is 45 minutes in duration and the standard programme for junior students is 15 hours per week. Classes are available at all levels from Elementary (A1) to Advanced (C1). Classes for junior students will have a maximum of 15 students, but you can expect an average of 13 students per class. Class times are divided so that students receive lessons from more than one teacher, two per day allowing them the benefit of more than one voice and teaching style and having a team of teachers liaise on their learning paths.

3 Sport & Recreational Facilities University College Cork has a state of the art sports complex called the Mardyke Arena which offers a vast choice of indoor and outdoor sport facilities for the students. This facility includes a swimming pool, gymnasium, climbing wall, rugby, soccer and hockey pitches, tennis courts and a running track. Activities & Excursions The programme in Cork University offers a very comprehensive cultural, sports and evening programme. Included are two half day cultural excursions to local galleries, museums and other visitor attractions and one full day excursion per week to cities and places of cultural importance around Ireland. The activity programme provides young students with an opportunity to absorb some of Ireland s rich heritage in a fun and relaxed way. A residential evening activity programme rounds off each day and includes: discos, Irish Nights (Ceili), karaoke, talent nights, treasure hunts and activities such as sport tournaments, Mr. an Mrs. competition and casino night and will ensure that each student is busy from breakfast to bedtime. Student Welfare The welfare of our students is of paramount importance to us and we offer a high standard of care and supervision to all our students. We provide nominated ATC staff members to act as guardians to our individual students that travel without group leaders. It is very important for us that our students remain happy and healthy throughout their stay. Our management in Cork University, along with our teachers and activity leaders will ensure that all students receive the best possible care and attention so as to maximise their experience during their study holiday.

4 Campus Living Laundry There is a private self service launderette available for the students use at University College Cork. The machines take coins, and washing powder can be purchased locally or students may bring their own. A typical wash and dry costs approximately 4. Cleaning Bedrooms, kitchen and living rooms will be cleaned daily and rubbish removed by the cleaning staff during the week. During occupancy, towels and bed linen will be changed once per week. Rooms will be fully serviced between occupancies. Safe A safe is available for the security of the students belongings at University College Cork. Students are encouraged to store large sums of money or valuables here. Travel tickets and passports are normally kept in the safe for the duration of the students stay. Fire Safety All students and groups leaders are to attend a mandatory fire briefing. Any breach of fire safety regulations may result in a fine and expulsion from the course. Student Identity Card In order to cooperate with the security and safety standards at University College Cork, ATC Language & Travel will supply all students with a student identity card. Students must carry their card with them at all times. Security There will be a 24 hour security guard monitoring the facility, dealing with security and related matters and responding to fire alarm activations. In order to cooperate with college staff, when asked students will be required to identify themselves and respond to legitimate directions relating to safety, security and good order. An ATC Language & Travel staff member will assist University College Cork security in the event of noise disturbances, incidents involving language school participants or medical emergencies. Deliveries Mail and other deliveries for students will be passed onto the Centre Manager for subsequent distribution. Phones There are public phones located throughout the college for students to use. Damages All students will be expected to pay a 50 damage deposit that will be collected by the group leaders upon arrival. This will be retained throughout the duration of the group s stay, the deposit will be returned in full prior to departure less the cost of any damages caused by the group. Keys Room keys will be provided to each student. Lost keys can be replaced by University College Cork staff at a cost of 5 each.

5 Sample Programme Note: The above is a sample programme only. Destinations of tours are subject to change. All students will receive their full tuition hours during their stay. The final programme will be prepared once we have the confirmed arrival dates for each group. Additional tours can be arranged for the group, provided requests are received prior to arrival.

Telephone: TBA Fax: TBA Emergency Pager: Classes 3 hours of class per day from Monday to Friday on alternate weekly morning (from 9:00 to 12:30 with a 30 minute break) and afternoon (from 14:30 to 17:45 with 15 minute break) basis. All textbooks and other learning materials will be made available to the students, with a graded certificate and end of course report being presented on conclusion of their stay. The maximum number of students per class is 15. All levels are available according to the Council of Europe levels from Elementary: A1 to Advanced: C1. Statistics University College Cork welcomes a range of nationalities such as Italian, Spanish, French, German and Russian. The centre welcomes foreign students from 11 to 17 years old from 30 th June to 31 st July Transfers On arrival at the airport, students will be met by an ATC Language & Travel representative who will escort them to University College Cork. Dublin International Airport is located approximately 270kms from University College Cork, with the average journey time being 3.5 to 4 hours depending on traffic. An airport transfer can only be arranged when flight information is received in writing by ATC Language & Travel at least 10 days prior to arrival. ATC Language & Travel cannot take responsibility for the students arrival transfer unless this procedure is followed. Medical Information In the case of a medical emergency, an ATC Language & Travel member of staff will assist in seeking the appropriate treatment. Any trips to the doctor, dentist or hospital will have to be paid in full by the student (including transport where necessary). All students will be accompanied by a group leader.
