2 How to Visualize and Read Kinematic elements To visualize the model, as model file, kinematic file also can be open directly through File Open. To work with DMU kinematic, need some arrangement. Preparing a Multi-Model Session in CATIA Version 4 Kinematic in Catia V.5 have different way in manage the part. Every different moving part have to put in different file. It will be multi model file. 1. Transfer the solid and surface geometry that represents the moving parts into separate models (1 part per model). The model containing the kinematics mechanism should only be a stick model (that is, wireframe plus the definition of the mechanism). 2. Use KINEMUSE function's DRESSUP item to define set/model relationships. Dressup also can be done in V.5 3. Save all models and, if needed, the session. Kinematik model can not be used as independent model. Need passive model. Read Kinematic elements 1. Select Digital Mockup -> DMU Kinematics from the Start menu The DMU Kinematics workbench is loaded and an empty document opens: Document V5V4KIN-1 Seite - 2

3 2. Select Insert -> Existing Component... from the menu bar, or activate contextual menu from product, and choose Existing Component. 3. Select the desired Kinematics model files by clicking the first one then shift-clicking the last one you want. Document V5V4KIN-1 Seite - 3

4 Click [Open] to open the selected files. The specification tree is displayed showing all the selected products. 4. Analys the model with Mechanism Analysis icon. The General Properties of the kinematics mechanism are displayed as shown. Document V5V4KIN-1 Seite - 4

5 4. Check the connection file using Simulation With Commands icon. If message something like this appear; it s mean, passive model not yet connected to this kinematic model, we need to dress up the kinematic mechanism. 5. Dressup the mechanism through kinematic dress up icon. Select the appropriate file in available product column that relate to the link For this example: KIN_EX16 04_PUNCHER+HANDLE+PASSIVE+MODEL.1 KIN_EX16 02_PUNCHER+CUTTER+PASSIVE+MODEL.1 KIN_EX16 03_PUNCHER+FIXED+PAR+PASSIVE+MODEL.1 link to BLUE link to RED link to FIX 6. 6 If you satisfied with this movement, select [Insert] in edit simulation window. You can see the step value change from 0.00 to After this we can change number at kinematic simulation window again, and press [Insert] to put the second movement. We can check this movement using play icon. When finish, select [OK]. 6. Compile simulation to use later. Either attach in the kinematic file or as separate file using Document V5V4KIN-1 Seite - 6

8 Simulation also can be saved as AVI file for presentation. 7. At the end, this file can be saved as CATProduct.
