3 Welcome to the 36 th Annual Infectious Diseases Symposium Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the Swiss Society for Infectious Diseases (SSI) and the Swiss Academic Foundation for Education in Infectious Diseases (SAFE-ID), it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 36 th Annual Infectious Diseases Symposium. The symposium is organized by SAFE-ID under the scientific patronage of the SSI. For the 2014 Symposium (the 36 th of the series) we have made a special effort to choose topics relevant to Switzerland and to daily medical practice. There are additional reasons to attend: The program makes it possible to participate from all over Switzerland without overnight stays and the KKL Lucerne offers modern conference facilities and excellent service.
