2 - Maestro Wes Glon : 92 & 96 Olympic Coach Head Coach at Penn State Current Team USA Captain & Chief of Mission Former Polish National Team Member International Referee Schedule Camp will be held in Strasbourg, Alsace, France from August 2 nd 2014 till August 16 th Saturday 2 nd : Arrival at Frankfurt Airport - Sunday 3 rd to Tuesday 5 th : Fencing Practice from 9am to 12pm & 2pm to 5pm - Wednesday 6 th : Amusement Park Europa Park Germany (largest in Europe) - Thursday 7 th & Friday 8 th : Fencing Practice from 9am to 12pm & 2pm to 5pm Pool party & Barbecue after one of the practices - Saturday 9 th : Visit of Baden-Baden, Germany & different villages in Alsace, France - Sunday 10 th : One-day trip to Paris (guided walking tour: Champs-Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, Tour Eiffel, Place Vendôme, place de l Opéra, Montmartre, Notre Dame de Paris) - Monday 11 th to Friday 15 th : Fencing Practice from 9am to 12pm & 2pm to 5pm - Saturday 16 th : Departure from Frankfurt Airport During second week after practice, tour of Strasbourg, the European Capital. Schedule might change according to weather Room & Board Campers will be hosted at L Auberge de Jeunesse de Deux Rives Rue des Cavaliers, Strasbourg, France. This is a unique facility located on the Rhin, which is the natural border between France and Germany. The Auberge is located near the famous 2 Rives Bridge which links France to Germany. The Fencers will be provided breakfast, lunch & dinner every day at the center s restaurant or via packed meals during the trips. Campers will sleep in gender separated rooms of 2, 3 or 4 with private bathrooms (toilets & shower) and AC. Rooming preferences will be dealt with on Saturday during our first meeting. Staff members and local chaperons will always be on site.

3 Practice Facility Fencing practices will take place in Salle d Escrime (fencing gym) located under the Soccer Stadium own by the Racing Club de Strasbourg. It s a full equipped gym with electric strips, lockers & AC. This gym is ideal to fit many students for drills and practices. Groups will be formed based on age and level of fencing; staff will rotate everyday among the groups. Strasbourg Strasbourg is the European Capital and hosts the European Parliament. It s an old city which has been preserved throughout the wars, so everyone can witness it s old architecture. The Cathedral is massive and famous because of the stones it is made of and its structure (only Cathedral with one tower). Strasbourg and its region, Alsace, is the center of gastronomy in France. Alsace is the region with the largest number of awarded restaurants and extremely famous for its vineyards. This region is a Valley located between the German black forest and the Vosges Mountains. The countryside is authentic and wonderful. Strasbourg is also the home of the biggest university in France; with a huge university area inside of the city. Additionally, Strasbourg has the biggest and oldest hospital in France. Campers will visit all of the different touristic neighborhoods: Petite France, Krutenau, Broglie, Cathedral Square, place Kleber, European area, finkwiller and the village of Oberna which is 15 min south of Strasbourg Goals of the camp The main focus of the camp is to prepare all attendants for the upcoming season. Indeed it will be more than a month since the completion of Summer Nationals and summer break. We will focus on getting campers back in shape and sharpening their fencing feeling (blade work, footwork, drills and bouting). We will work on fencing specific conditioning while working with Auberge s Chef on the nutrition aspect during camp (healthy diet adapted for active teenagers). The camp will offer a unique opportunity for the students to live a European lifestyle for 2 weeks while experiencing different high level fencing coaching methods. The attendees will have a better idea of what College coaches are expecting from their fencers and will have a chance to share fencing and life stories with fencers from France. The fencing classes could be offered in Polish and French if requested by the parents or the instructors could talk directly in these languages to the campers.

4 Items required - Full Fencing equipment - 3 sabers and bodycords - Underarm protector and knickers are mandatory - Backpack - Jump rope - Bathing suits & Towel - Typical Summer Attire Fees - The airfare ticket is not included. The rendez-vous is on Saturday August the 2 nd at Frankfurt International Airport or Strasbourg International Airport. Campers can schedule flights at their convenience. - The fencing camp is $1,000 for 10 days of intense fencing including coaching fees and the gym rental. - Room & Board is $1,200 for 14 days including lodging, breakfast, lunch & dinner. - $500 : includes ALL transportation fees: Amusement Park (biggest Amusement Park in Europe), day-trip to Paris, both transfers to the airport, subway in Paris, 4 transfers daily between the gym and the center, driving expenses (gas, tolls, parking, minivan rent). 5 Attendance The number of campers is limited to 40 based on a first come first serve policy. The camp is open to fencers ages 10 to 18 and will be divided into level groups. The camp is designed for competitive saber fencers. Parents are more than welcome to attend but need to plan their own accommodations.
