2 AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING Edinburgh College is a leading provider of automotive and mechanical engineering. Whilst studying on courses ranging from entry level to advanced diagnostics, you can learn about the design, manufacture, operation and repair of a wide range of vehicles. This includes commercial heavy goods vehicles, light vehicles, motorcycles and buses. As well as our full time courses listed in this prospectus, we operate apprentice training programmes in light vehicle, heavy vehicle and vehicle body repair and paint. Thanks to our investment in green technologies, there s been a leap in the electric car projects we now run as part of our successful motor vehicle courses. o whether you re a new mechanic, an apprentice, or a technician already in the trade, our courses will give you the innovative skills to place you ahead of the competition. Many of our former students have progressed into senior roles as master technicians and service managers. OUR FACILITIE Our purpose-built automotive workshops are equipped with an industry standard spray paint booth and latest nap-on diagnostic tools. Learn from highly qualified teaching staff including Porsche, Bentley and koda master technicians and get insight into new product launches from 3M roadshows. ELECTRIC VEHICLE PARTNER We are partnered with manufacturing giants Nissan, Mitsubishi and Etran to place us at the forefront of technology with our own fleet of electrical vehicles. In addition, the college has teamed up with Transport cotland and The Energy avings Trust to expand Electric charge point provision in our local areas. 3 AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING DANIH DUO DOING NOBLE BUINE Alex F Noble & on, the family owned and run Midlothian car dealership, teamed up with Edinburgh College to host two young Danish mechanics on an apprentice exchange scheme. Kasper Dahlgaard (20) and Bryan irbaugh (32) have spent 3 months working at the dealership s ubaru/isuzu and Nissan premises at Penicuik and traiton respectively as service and maintenance mechanics. Robert Docherty, a lecturer in automotive engineering at Edinburgh College s Midlothian campus in Dalkeith, heads up the apprentice exchange scheme and facilitated both students stay at Alex F Noble & on. Both Kasper and Bryan are exceptionally talented lads and are to be commended for their dedicated work ethic. 5 AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING GREEN POWER PROJECT This year Edinburgh College teamed up with a class from Castlebrae High school in Edinburgh to build and race an electric kit car as part of the Green Power project. Over the course of one of our department s instructors Willy Hadden (formally of Porsche) helped the class build the electric vehicle from a kit supplied by the Greenpower Trust. A race day was held at East Fortune race track, which normally hosts cotland s motorcycle racing teams. The team emerged as winners in the kit car class and also took home the trophy of best newcomers. Now, we are looking to next year where the team will develop the car to make it faster, lighter and more aerodynamic in order to keep ahead of the competition. During the project the college secured sponsership from Lamborghini Edinburgh, who invited the group to tour their facilities and see their legendary cars in the flesh. 07 Edinburgh College Automotive Engineering 08

You ll cover diagnostics and repair with a focus on engine technology and systems. Vehicle Maintenance and - Light vehicle option City & Guilds Diploma Level 2 This is ideal if you've completed either Level 1 diploma and wish to progress. You will develop the skills you need for a career in automotive engineering working on light vehicles. The majority of time will be spent in the workshop carrying out practical tasks and building a portfolio. Classic Vehicle Restoration IMI Diploma Level 2 Progressing from the Level 1 certificates you will cover a wide range of restoration topics aimed at the body repair and paint side of the restoration process. Vehicle Maintenance (Heavy vehicle option) City & Guilds Diploma Level 1 Develop career skills in automotive engineering, working on heavy vehicles (Lorries and buses). You'll learn about a range of systems including engines, routine maintenance and health and safety. Vehicle Maintenance - Light vehicle option City & Guilds Diploma Level 1 Md Develop career skills in automotive engineering, working on light vehicles (cars and vans). You ll learn about a range of systems including engines, routine maintenance and health and safety. Automotive Body IMI Certificate Level 1 Develop the skills necessary for a career in vehicle body repair. One half of the programme will be spent studying body repair, with the other half spent completing a Level 1 Certificate in Automotive Refinishing. Automotive Refinishing (pray Painting) IMI Certificate Level 1 Develop the skills necessary for a career in vehicle refinishing. Half of the programme will be spent studying automotive refinishing, with the other half spent completing a Level 1 Certificate in Body. Vehicle ystems Maintenance City & Guilds Diploma Entry Level Develop practical knowledge of the operation, servicing and repair of all aspects of light vehicles - an excellent start to a career in the automotive industry and a stepping stone to further studies. This may also give you the experience to allow you to access employment. Motorcycle and mall Engines City & Guilds Diploma Entry Level Get introduced to skills relevant to the operation, servicing maintenance and repair of small engines. You ll problem solve through the diagnosis of faults and develop essential employment skills. Md Md Automotive tarting Grid Get the basic automotive units in light vehicle maintenance and repair. Combined with a work placement, you ll have the opportunity to showcase your skills to an employer and develop your career. Automotive Maintenance Evening Class (Basic) Md EV This course is ideal if you are a vehicle enthusiast or hobbyist. Classes are held in automotive engineering workshops and will develop your practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Automotive Maintenance Evening Class (Advanced) This course is ideal if you are a vehicle enthusiast or hobbyist looking to progress on from our basic skills evening course.
