4 Traditions & 2015 Distinguished Gallery & Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees Distinguished Alumni Janie Nicholas Benson 60 Janie has spent her life serving others. In her career as an accomplished educator, she served as a Director of Christian Education for the United Methodist Church, as well as a private preschool teacher and Director in Saudi Arabia. Janie served six years as her political party s chair in Haywood County and remains active in the community. Brad Lakeson 74 Brad has been a dedicated advocate for BC and its alumni through his services on the Board of Trustees and the Alumni Advisory Board, where he served as President from Brad has a distinguished career in Sales Management and has received many national and regional honors and awards. He is heavily involved in charitable causes and organizations in the Charlotte, NC, area. Distinguished Faculty Tim Murray, Brevard College Art Professor ( ) A lover of the arts, sports, and the outdoors, this creative professor found Brevard to be the perfect place. His BC career spanned 42 years, and he served as Head of the Art department for 40 of those. Tim loved teaching, hated paperwork and cared deeply about his students. Over the years, Tim won countless awards for his art, and with his interest in so many fields, was the epitome of a Renaissance man. Athletic Hall of Fame Don Scarborough, Men s Soccer Coach ( ) Don led the Tornados Men s Soccer Program to some of its most memorable victories during his 10 years at the helm, winning eight Regional Championships. During his most successful year, the 82 team went , finishing with a No. 7 national ranking. As a result, Don was named Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Eddie Tadlock, Men s Soccer 85 Eddie was a decorated midfielder for a pair of conference and regional championship teams. His legacy however, was not just on the pitch for Brevard, but also in the classroom and in the College community, as he served as the President of the Student Government Association. Dr. Frick-Ruppert is a professor of Environmental Science, Ecology and Biology, and she serves as the Science and Mathematics Division Chair at BC. Originally from South Carolina, she has authored many books, articles and almanacs including: Mountain Nature: A Seasonal Natural History of the Southern Appalachians and Waterways: Sailing Southeastern Coastal Waters.
