1 Welcome to Explore Carolina! Today, you ll get a chance to meet current students and faculty, learn about life at UNC, and hear about some of the exciting opportunities that await you here. We hope it ll be a fun and informative day that will give you a glimpse of what your life could be like as a Tar Heel. Explore Carolina is a conference-style event, so you ll have the opportunity to pick which sessions interest you most. If your family members are with you, we encourage you to divide and conquer if there are additional sessions you d like to attend. Registration Welcome and University Overview Campus Tour Take a guided tour of campus with one of our student ambassadors. Model Residence Hall Visit Tour a furnished and decorated suite-style residence hall room which is a common assignment for the First Year Experience. Staff will be available to escort you to Craige Residence Hall. Please note: Craige Residence Hall is open until 5:00 pm to visit on your own. Student Life Sessions Affording Carolina Visit with staff from Student Aid to learn about applying for need-based financial aid. Study Abroad and Undergraduate Research Join panelists as they share unique opportunities for study abroad and undergraduate research offered at UNC. Life After High School Sports, What Can I Do To Stay Involved? Visit with representatives from Campus Recreation about opportunities to stay involved with sports at Carolina, and learn more about WAFFYS (Wilderness Adventures for First Year Students). Be sure to grab your lunch pass when you check in at the beginning of the day. Lunch at Granville Towers Have lunch at the Agora in Granville Towers. An ambassador will meet you at 12:00 pm to escort you to Granville Towers. Lunch is available until 2:00pm. Afternoon Activities and Sessions Student Services Fair: Talk to representatives from Air Force ROTC, Army ROTC, Campus Health Services, Campus Recreation, Carolina Computing Initiative, Carolina Kickoff, Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, Fraternity and Sorority Life and Community Involvement, Granville Towers, Housing and Residential Education, LGBTQ Center, Navy ROTC, New Student & Carolina Parent Programs, Office of Undergraduate Retention, Transportation & Parking, Undergraduate Research, and University

Student Life Sessions Student Wellness Learn more about how Carolina supports students physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Discussions will include club sports and campus health offerings. Leadership and Development Meet UNC students and learn about ways to get involved at Carolina. Career Services and Academic Support Join representatives from University Career Services and the Center for Student Success and Academic Counseling to learn more about resources and support offered at Carolina to help students succeed. Although formal programming ends, some departments are offering sessions in the afternoon. Model Residence Hall Housing and Residential Education will open a Model Room at Craige Residence Hall. Tour a furnished and decorated suite-style residence hall room which is a common assignment for the First Year Experience. Tour Granville Towers Granville Towers will open their community and provide tours of their facilities, dining hall, and model rooms. Please note: Granville Towers is open 8:00 am 5:00 pm.
4 (continued) Additional Afternoon Activities Entrepreneurship Stop by the Entrepreneurship suite in Gardner Hall 104 to learn more about Econ 125: Introduction to Entrepreneurship and the Minor in Entrepreneurship. The Minor in Entrepreneurship admits students from all majors on campus, and has classes focused on artistic ventures, commercial ventures, computer science, design, media, public health scientific ventures, social ventures and sport ventures. ROTC Office Hours The Air Force and Army ROTCs will be hosting office hours for interested students to stop by and learn more. European Studies Please join to find out about the Center's offerings and events. You may be especially interested to know about our Contemporary European Studies (EURO) major, our TransAtlantic Masters program, and our BA-MA (EURO-TAM) option which enables students to complete two degrees focused on contemporary Europe in reduced time. Meet students and administrators and enjoy refreshments! Kenan-Flagler Business School Student ambassadors will be available for building tours. Admissions representatives will be available to answer questions about applying to the business program. Light refreshments will be served. Guests should check in at the 3rd Floor Lobby of the McColl Building. Visitor parking is unavailable at Kenan Flagler, so we recommend walking from main campus or taking the bus. Biomedical Engineering Did you know Carolina offers Biomedical Engineering as part of a joint degree program with North Carolina State University? With over half of our graduates going to top medical schools and engineering graduate programs across the country, our alumni are distinguishing themselves as researchers, doctors, teachers and engineers. Come to this Q&A session with students and faculty to learn more about this unique pro-
5 The UNC campus and surrounding area offer many opportunities to learn, discover, play and eat great food! Listed below are some popular points of interest we hope you ll explore. Carolina Men s Basketball Museum The Carolina Men's Basketball Museum features artifacts, videos, photos, statistical and historical panels that highlight the history of the Carolina Basketball program. The museum experience begins with a six-minute theater presentation and also includes interactive presentations highlighting Carolina's championships and many of the greatest games and most exciting finishes in Tar Heel history. Open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Carolina Women s Basketball Museum The Carolina Women's Basketball Museum is located off the main lobby of the newly renovated Carmichael Arena. Opened in December of 2010, the museum includes many exhibits and artifacts on the history of the Carolina women's basketball program and features the team's nine ACC championships, three NCAA Tournament Final Four appearances, and 1994 NCAA Tournament Championship. Open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Coker Arboretum Fondly known by many as a quiet haven in the middle of UNC's busy campus, the Coker Arboretum was started by UNC professor William Chambers Coker in The Arboretum was the first scientific collection of plants south of the Potomac River, and it continues to provide a beautiful and educational display of over 500 species of flora. Open from dawn to dusk. Kenan Football Center and Hall of Honor The Kenan Football Center Hall of Honor displays photographs, awards, trophies and artifacts detailing the rich and storied history of football at UNC. The 18 Carolina players who have been honored by placing their names and numbers on display in the stadium are also featured with special plaques, flags and audio-visual presentations. The James A. Heavner Theater shows seven dramatic videos presenting the history of UNC football. Open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Robert and Sallie Brown Gallery and Museum The Robert and Sallie Brown Gallery and Museum in the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History is the primary venue for the exhibit of artwork portraying all dimensions of African American and African Diaspora cultures. Open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture & History The Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History is part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a center within the University s Academic Affairs Division, we have a central role in supporting the University s academic mission. We have a commitment to broaden the range of intellectual discourse about African-Americans and to encourage better understanding of peoples of the African diaspora and their perspectives on important social and cultural issues.
