1 6 th Grade Math Project - Building Your Own Business Please review all the requirements and criteria sheets carefully. Your math teacher will have examples available in her room. THE PURPOSE: As part of the students Math grade, each student will create his/her own business and present it to the class. Each student will be responsible for turning in a binder and a brochure of their company information. This is an opportunity for your child to be creative and put into practice some math skills that we have been learning about this year. The students have brainstormed in math about an imaginary business that they would like to create and have worked through how to find the expenses and profit, as well as how to graph these over time. Listed below are the requirements and due dates for this project. The business can be a sole proprietorship (1 student only) or a partnership (No more than 2 students). Sorry no corporations! You may use computer graphics. B. Create a company slogan. (A saying that will remind people of your product/company.) This may be on a separate page or the ncompany logo page. Use a font size or draw your slogan big enough to fill the page. You have the option to use color. Slogan example: Subway s slogan is Eat Fresh. Page 5: Draw a picture of your product. This must be on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of white paper. Use color and draw it big enough to fill the whole page. The picture may be drawn by the student or done with computer graphics. BROCHURE: Create a brochure for your product. This must be on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of white paper folded into thirds (vertically). Include your logo, slogan, company name, prices of your product, how people can contact you for more information about your product, and pictures of your product. You may use color, computer graphics, magazine pictures, or personal illustrations to make this neat and professional. ORAL PRESENTATION: March 30-April 2 Sell your product to the class. (Presentation) Place all of the above items in a binder/folder to present to the class. You will share your business ideas, graphs and brochure with the class. Remember an excellent presentation is one in which the speaker maintains eye contact with the audience, has full knowledge of their product and company, speaks clearly, has excellent posture, uses their time wisely and presents their product and company with confidence and excitement (sell your product). EXTRA CREDIT: Dress for Success: Dress professionally. Example: Boys-collared shirt, a tie (optional), and dress shoes; Girls-dress (optional), dress pants & blouse/top, dress shoes.
