3 Welcome The Turkish Orienteering Federation is proud to welcome elite orienteers from all over the world to join us in Stage 1 of the World Cup in Orienteering in Turkey has progressed at a unique pace throughout its short history and is now recognized as one of the popular countries for high-level orienteering events with its very versatile and challenging terrain. Antalya in particular, offers a choice of terrain ranging from sand dunes with small bushes challenging visibility to pine forests with steep hills challenging endurance. Antalya has hosted 3 WRE events up to now, and is now preparing to host the 2013 Orienteering Cup for the Confederation of Orienteering Federations of the Mediterranean Countries (COMOF) in February, Antalya has been one of the preferred sites for training, attended by elite orienteers such as Daniel Hubmann, Valentin Novikov and Pasi Ikonen, and has hosted training camps for the Norwegian and Swedish national teams, in addition to many passing through Turkey combining orienteering with tourism. This unique region now welcomes you to witness several of its most challenging terrains with famous historical sites nearby in addition to the unique chance of swimming and sunbathing in February! As GATAB, the Association of Tourism Agencies of Southern Antalya, we are delighted to welcome the most elite orienteers from all over the world to our region where nature and history entwine. Phaselis, once one of the biggest harbours on the Mediterranean coast dating back to 500 BC will now be home to one of the most prestigious orienteering events. Our region with its antique cities, its natural beauty, its sandy beaches and creeks, islands and the historical Lycian Way attracts many from all over the world. It will be in this region that we now host the World Cup Event 1 for Welcome to Antalya! With the combination of rivalry within the framework of fairplay and sportsmanship together with the particularities of orienteering, there emerges a wonderful scene of the struggle between man and nature. During the recent years, Turkey has increasingly been home to many international orienteering events where participants have praised the terrain and natural beauty in addition to Turkish hospitality which is indeed one of our qualities as a nation. The Venue The region is situated in the so-called Turkish Riviera, full of must see sites only a few steps away from the competition areas. Breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea await competitors as they run through forests of varying visibility, amongst ancient ruins dating back to 500 BC. The region was once the home of many civilizations from the Lycians, the Greek, the Romans and the Byzantine era up to the Seljuk Turks and the Ottomans. Everywhere you look you will come across ancient bridges, tombs, water channels, agoras, amphitheatres, walls, paved streets where man walked more than 2500 years ago. Make sure you allow an evening on the unique Chimera (Çıralı) slopes with its everlasting flames burning amongst the rocks. 4. The Event Centre The event center is the famous holiday site Kemer situated right by the sparkling waters and sandy beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. The town offers a wide variety of accommodation ranging from bungalows and hostels to 5 star all inclusive luxury hotels. Many alternatives will be available very soon on our website, all within walking distance to the Event Center.

The region chosen for training offers runnable terrain with some patches of stony ground to skip through, preparing you for the more challenging days ahead. Visibility is high here but will not be quite so in the coming days. The World Cup Race World Cup Event 1 Qualification (28 February 2014) Format: Middle distance, individual start, winning time Map: Beycik, 1:10000, 5m contour interval. Terrain: low visibility, stony ground. Distance from Event Center: 25 km Map: Çakırlar similar terrain to Beycik World Cup Event 1 Final (1 March 2014) Format: Middle distance, individual start, winning time Map: Phaselis antique city and surroundings, 1:10000, 5m contour interval. Terrain: antique ruins, stony ground, conifer forest, varied visibility, sand dunes in some regions. Distance from Event Center: 15 km Map: Seleukeia similar terrain to Phaselis The region has never been mapped before. All maps for the event will be brand new and will be drawn in February Map samples will be available soon on our website. Meanwhile, the above show map samples of similar regions.

7 7. Training Opportunities Antalya-O-Days 2013 to be held on February, 2013 will provide an excellent opportunity to run on similar terrain. Both the mappers and the course planners for Antalya-O-Days 2013 are those responsible for WCup2014. This is a chance too good to miss! The Cappadoccia Cup 2013 on March 2013 is also a very good opportunity to sample maps in a terrain termed uniquely difficult to map drawn by the same Czech mappers who will be mapping WCup2014. Check out the website at for more information. Training maps for the World Cup will be available as of 04 November Currently, there exist maps of similar regions and training camps in these regions may be organized upon request. Training maps for WCup2014 will be available during the event at the Event Centre for all registered runners and officials. The World Cup coincides with the 3 stage Antalya O Days World Cup competitors are also able to enter Antalya O Days stage 1 and thus rank in this event also. Any violations must be reported immediately to the organizer at info@wcupantalya.com 9. Classes and Entry Regulations There is one class for women and one class for men. There are no age restrictions. The Competition Rules for IOF Foot Orienteering Events, version valid from 1st January 2013 and IOF Special Rules for the 2014 World Cup in Orienteering shall apply. There is no limitation for entries for the parallel events Antalya O Days and Kemer Sprint Relay. The respective Bulletins including categories and conditions for entry will be available very soon on our website.

8 10. Punching System SportIdent punching system will be used for all events. In order to eliminate any deviation in advantage due to the model of SI cards, athletes will be handed out the same model SI cards by the organizer. Athletes shall not use their own SI cards. 11. Entries Preliminary entry deadline: 26 October 2013 Preliminary entries include the following information: - Number of competitors (men and women) - Number of team officials (men and women) - Team manager: Name, address, phone, fax, Please use the Preliminary Entry Form available on the event website as of March 1, Final entry deadline: 15 January 2014 Final entries include the following information: - All competitors and team officials: family name, first name, nation, sex, year of birth, IOF ranking ID (competitors only), passport number - IOF officials: family name, first name, address, IOF function. Please note that Final Entries can only be accepted if a Preliminary Entry has previously been submitted. The Final Entry Form to be used will be available on the event website as of September 1, Entry fees for WCup 2014 Antalya Competitors: EUR 100 (EUR 60 for WCup event + EUR 50 Accreditation) Team officials: EUR 50 (Accreditation) The accreditation fee includes identity badges, training maps, model event maps, new competition maps, start and results lists. Payment Entry fees must be paid before 29 November Please note that it is the entrants responsibility to add possible bank charges to the payments. An on-line payment system will be available on our website very soon. 9 12. Travel and Transport Antalya is the nearest international airport to the competition area. Many countries have direct economic flights to Antalya. Kemer is 44 km from Antalya airport and 35 km from Antalya city center. From the airport it is possible to take the HAVAS shuttle bus to the main bus station in Antalya. There are many public buses from the Main Bus Station to Kemer.and from Kemer there are very frequent means of transport to neighbouring sites such as Çıralı, Tekirova, Olympos. You may also request private transfer from the airport. More details about how to apply for private transfer will be available on our website after June, Transportation to competition venues will be arranged by the organizer. For teams it will also be possible to rent a bus or a minibus with a local driver. More details about transportation to local venues will be available on our website. 13. Visa Some countries require a visa for Turkey. For more information please check the website Please note that it is also possible to obtain a visa at the airport before passing through passport control. 14. Accommodation The region includes many means of accommodation of varying price and luxury level. One may find accommodation in a hotel starting from as cheap as 20 per night including continental breakfast. A detailed list of partner hotels, hostels and camping sites will be available on our website after June, Clothing Restrictions There are no formal clothing restrictions but full body cover is recommended for the World Cup Event. 16. Anti Doping Doping is strictly forbidden, and the organizers of World Cup Event 1 are dedicated to supporting the anti-doping authorities in their work. Doping controls may be carried out any time during the competition period. As some sites for the doping controls may be a few minutes drive away, we suggest that athletes are prepared at all events to take along some dry clothes to change into after their race. Doping tests are always carried out in accordance with the procedures described in the WADA International Standard of testing. The IOF Anti-Doping Code and rules apply as of 1st February Athletes who are selected for the doping tests must bring an official identification (with photo) to the doping test area. Accreditation cards with photo can also be used for this purpose. The athlete should also bring along their therapeutic use exemption (TUE) if applicable. In general, it is advisable that the athletes bring along their ID to all the competitions and events. 17. Weather & Climate During the fine summer weather, the waters around Antalya quickly warm up and tend to stay around 28 C / 82 F, and so are very inviting to swimmers, while those who prefer to worship the Turkish sun can simply lie back on the beach. The climate begins to cool down slowly, from October onwards, and as the winter months approach, the likelihood of rainy weather increases. However, once the rainy weather season arrives in Antalya, anytime from November to March, it generally only lasts a matter of weeks and is interspersed with fine days and blue skies. December, January and February are the coldest months in Antalya, although with daytime temperatures averaging 15 C / 59 F or 16 C / 61 F, and nights usually remaining well above freezing, snow is virtually unheard of.

10 18. Insurance Competitors participate in IOF World Cup Event and Antalya O Days 2014 at their own risk. Individuals are responsible for their own insurance to cover for illness/accident. 19.
