3 Using Pre-Installed Apps on Kindle Fire 1st Generation Your Kindle Fire comes with pre-installed apps that you can use to customize your experience with your device. For information on buying and downloading games and apps from the Amazon Appstore, go to Kindle Fire Help ( Apps listed under the Cloud tab are stored in Amazon Cloud Drive. Apps listed under the Device tab have been downloaded to your Kindle Fire. On-device apps can be enjoyed without a Wi-Fi connection. To download apps previously purchased from Amazon Appstore that are compatible with Kindle Fire, press and hold the app from the Cloud tab and select Install. Tap any app to start using it. Using Pre-Installed Apps Your Kindle Fire comes with several pre-installed apps, including apps from third parties. These companies provide their own support for their apps. You can find support options for most of these apps by tapping the Menu button at the bottom of the screen while the app is open. Audible To start using the Audible app, tap the Audible app icon from the Apps screen, either from the Cloud or Sign in to the app, or tap "I'm new to Audible" to try the app without signing in. If you are new to Audible.com, use your Amazon account username and password to sign into Audible, otherwise enter your Audible account username and password. Once you've signed in, you'll see your library of Audible content. Filter your library by using the tabs at the bottom of the screen, or drag the gray My Library sorter at the top of the screen downward to see more options for viewing your content. Tap the shopping cart in the top left corner of the screen to purchase content from Audible.com. You will be asked to sign in again the first time you visit the store. Enter the same username and password used when signing into the Audible app. Tap the Menu icon at the bottom of the screen for additional options. Tap Settings, then Help & Support for help, FAQs, and an online user guide. Gallery To start using the Gallery app, tap the Gallery app icon from the Apps screen, either from the Cloud or Content you've transferred to your Kindle Fire or downloaded using the Amazon Silk browser will be saved in your Gallery. Viewing pictures From the Gallery home screen, tap Pictures to view your images. Tap the Slideshow icon to start a slideshow of all pictures on your Kindle Fire. 4 Tap the Menu icon at the bottom of the screen for more options. Tap the Share icon to send an with the picture using the Amazon app. Tap the More icon to crop or rotate your image, and to view image details. Tap the Delete icon to delete the image. Viewing downloads From the Gallery home screen, tap Downloads to view images and videos you downloaded using the Amazon Silk web browser. Use the scroll bar to scroll through your files. Tap the Menu icon at the bottom of the screen for more options. Tap the Share icon to send an with your downloaded file using the Amazon app. Tap the More icon to crop or rotate an image, or view more details. Tap the Delete icon to delete the file. Viewing videos From the Gallery home screen, tap Video to view videos transferred to your Kindle Fire via USB. Use the scroll bar to scroll through your videos. Tap a video to start viewing it. Tap the Menu icon at the bottom of the screen for more options. Tap the Share icon to send an with the video using the Amazon app. Tap the More icon to view video details. Tap the Delete icon to delete the video. Note: Videos transferred to your Kindle Fire via USB will only be available in the Gallery app. Only videos from the Amazon Video store are shown in the Video library. IMDb To start using the IMDb app, tap the IMDb app icon from the Apps screen, either from the Cloud or With the IMDb app, you can search more than two million movie titles and more than four million cast and crew listings, or browse the world of entertainment by tapping Movies, TV, or Celebs across top of the IMDb home screen To search IMDb, tap the magnifying glass icon, located in the top right corner of every screen. As you type your search term, suggestions for IMDb listings will appear. You may tap the Back arrow to return to any previously visited screen, or tap the IMDb logo, located in the top left corner of every screen, to return to the IMDB app home screen. By signing into an IMDb account, you will be able to access additional features such as Your Watchlist, Rating History, and Showtimes. Sign in or create a new account by tapping the Menu icon and selecting Sign In. You can also sign in to the app with other accounts (for example, your Amazon.com account). Tap the Menu icon and choose Settings to sign in to your IMDb account or set preferences such as your location and preferred IMDb site. Pulse To start using the Pulse app, tap the Pulse app icon from the Apps screen, either from the Cloud or You'll see top stories from your favorite sites displayed on the Pulse home screen. Scroll to view more, and tap the Sync icon to refresh. Tap the Settings icon in the upper left corner of the screen to control which websites Pulse displays. Tap the.me icon in the upper right corner to sign up for Pulse.me, which lets you save your favorite stories, access stories from more of your devices, and connect with services like Instapaper, Read It Later, and Evernote Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. 5 From the Pulse home screen, tap the Menu icon at the bottom of the screen for additional options. Tap the Info/Support icon for additional help using Pulse. Quickoffice Quickoffice allows you to view your Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations directly from your Kindle Fire. To access Quickoffice, tap the Apps content library and tap the Quickoffice icon. Quickoffice currently supports the following file types: Microsoft Word documents (.doc,.docx, and.txt) Excel spreadsheets (.xls and.xlsx) PowerPoint presentations (.ppt and.pptx) Tap the Browse icon, then tap Internal Storage to see all content on your Kindle Fire, or Recent Documents to display those supported Microsoft Office documents you ve recently used. Tap the Sort icon (the letter A and Z with two arrows), then tap Name, Type, Size, or Date to sort by these options. Quickoffice cannot be uninstalled from your Kindle Fire. Kindle Fire Exclusive Apps Some apps in Amazon Appstore have been created exclusively for use on Kindle Fire. Most apps in the Amazon Appstore are compatible with Kindle Fire and other compatible Android devices, but for technical reasons developers have created a Kindle Fire exclusive version of their apps to ensure you're able to use your favorite apps on Kindle Fire. Information for Developers You can sell your apps by becoming a Developer for Amazon Appstore. Go to and create a new account. You can follow step-by-step instructions to create an account and upload your application and media files. Note that we ask developers to modify existing app binary to be compatible with Kindle Fire, rather than create a distinct version of the app for Kindle Fire. Our goals are to maintain a unified discovery experience for apps within the Amazon Appstore and to ensure that customers who purchase your app on Kindle Fire will be able to enjoy it on other Android devices registered to their Amazon.com accounts.
