This is a closed book examination. To be assessed as competent for this assessment, you must answer all questions correctly. 6 ASSESSMENT TASK 2 Assessment Task 2: Work Health and Safety Project This assessment task requires completion of five (5) activities as identified below. You will need complete all of the tasks satisfactorily in order to be assessed as competent. The tasks to be completed are based on the following scenario: You have been appointed as the manager of a newly created team of office professionals. The organisation that you work for is a medium sized company with three departments accounts and finance; multimedia, design and production; and business administration. Your new team consists of four staff, employed to take care of the office administration. Your role is Office Manager and it is your responsibility to provide information and training for your staff. You have decided to conduct a number of information and training sessions with the new staff with the first one focussing on Work Health and Safety (WHS). You would also like to consult with your staff to identify further training needs with regard to Work Health and Safety as you believe that this is a key area for training for new staff. The assessment task requires you to: Create three simple handouts to provide to staff at the meeting. Develop and send an agenda prior to the information and training session. Conduct the information and training session. Seek feedback on further training needs. Report on the meeting to your manager. Your assessor will arrange the groups (your team), along with the time for the meeting.appendix A: Presentation Plan Template Part A: Develop handouts As the manager of the work team, you are required to provide information on a variety of organisational policies and procedures. You decide to focus on Workplace Health and Safety and workplace behaviour. You should create a range of information handouts (1 3 as discussed below) to present and discuss at the information and training session. You can research the information you need using the Internet. Please use the following guidelines for handouts: Create clear and concise one (1) page handouts. Use simple and clear language that takes into account social and cultural diversity. For, example, use simple English and avoid colloquial/slang; consider race, religion, culture, age and disabilities when referring to any examples. Use appropriate sized fonts and present well-formatted, grammatically correct information. Make sure the handouts you create use the same layout, font, colours and style. 9 INTRODUCTION Introduction This is a Marking Guide for BSBWHS401A Implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and programs to meet legislative requirements, which is to be used by the assessor to guide the assessment process. It includes a copy of all of the assessment tasks provided to the student along with benchmark/example answers to each question or task and/or advice to the assessor on what to look for. It also includes a guide to the assessor on the assessment processes and documents to be used for assessing competency in this unit. This document should be used in conjunction with the Assessment Record Tool. Guide to assessment Assessment documents This document is part of a suite of assessment documents that should be used in conjunction with each other to conduct assessment. Together, these documents provide detailed information to the students about their assessment requirements, guide assessors in their decision-making process, provide benchmark answers, provide appropriate recording tools and demonstrate how the tasks relate to the unit of competency requirements. The documents that are included in this suite are: This Marking Guide this document includes a guide to assessors on the process of assessment, plus a copy of all of the assessment tasks provided to each student along with benchmark and sample answers to each question. Mapping document this document demonstrates how the assessment tasks relate to the unit of competency requirements. Assessment Task Booklet this document is given to the student and provides detailed instructions about the requirements of each assessment task. All information provided in the Assessment Task Booklet is also provided within this document for the assessor s reference. Assessment Record Tool this document is to be used by the assessor to record assessment decisions and outcomes. Within this document there is a checklist for each task that will enable assessors to ensure they accurately record how they reached their assessment decision. Task outcomes and final outcomes for the unit are recorded in this document. The Assessment Record Tool should be used in close conjunction with this Marking Guide. Assessment tasks This unit is assessed through the following assessment requirements: Task 1: Short answer questions Task 2: Project Task 3: Case Studies Students must complete all assessment tasks satisfactorily in order to achieve competency in this unit. Note for assessors if the student does not answer one or more questions correctly, depending on the response provided the student may need to redo the question/s under exam conditions. If the answer provided by the student is almost but not quite right, you may verbally question the student to confirm their understanding. If you still do not consider that the student understands the question/s, they will need to redo the relevant questions under exam conditions. Model answers are in red but responses may sometimes vary and it is up to the assessor to identify whether the answer provided is appropriate and sufficient. Question 1 Explain the primary duty of care to workers for a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU). Ensure the health and safety of workers. This role requires eliminating risks to health and safety or minimizing risks. Question 2 In a sentence or two, describe the Work Health and Safety (WHS) responsibilities of workers whilst at work? Comply with any reasonable instruction given by the person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) to allow compliancy with WHS laws; cooperate with policies and procedures set out by the PCBU. Question 3 Provide three reasons why it is important to consult with staff when implementing or reviewing WHS procedures and policies in the workplace? Ensures participation in procedures, improves WHS through consultation, legislative responsibility, identifies safety hazards and risks, contributes to decision-making process, enables discussion to share health and safety concerns. Question 4 List five (5) examples of WHS documentation that should be accessible and available to staff. 11 ASSESSMENT TASK 2 Assessment Task 2: Work Health and Safety Project Assessors are to use the checklists included in relation to this assessment task and included over the following pages. In relation to each activity, assessors should note the following: Read through the assessment tasks provided to students. The way in which the groups are formed and meetings held will be up to the Assessor. It will depend on the size of the class, time restrictions, also the structure of the classroom. Ideally the student should be able to present to a group of four for approximately 20 minutes this would include providing the handouts, discussing them and asking for feedback on training opportunities. Once the groups are formed, the assessor should advise students that this is their group in relation to the WHS Project. Students should have the addresses of each of their group in order to provide an agenda to their group at least 3 days prior to the meeting. This is an assessable component. The assessor should also be included in the group with the agenda. A meeting room should be assigned for each student s meeting. The assessor must also include some noticeable hazards (i.e. relating to the items in the checklist such as boxes in the way, cables in dangerous places) so that when the student is conducting the hazard inspection prior to the meeting, this can be noted down on the inspection checklist. The hazard inspection checklist is included at Appendix A and must be printed off and provided to all students. The assessor should brief team members prior to the meeting about the type of training needs they might raise. These should be in relation to the handouts. The assessor should provide a range of different training needs for each group so that students are researching different training opportunities. The with the report of the meeting must be received by the assessor and team members no later than 3 days after the meeting. Students must be assessed as competent on all activities in this task to be assessed as competent overall for the task. Re-assessment will be in accordance with re-assessment procedures.
