3 WELCOME TO UCAM UCAM is a private Catholic University with a 17 year history and more than 15,700 students, offering 26 official European degrees, 45 Masters, 17 Doctorates as well as other prestigious titles. UCAM is a Catholic university, loyal to its roots, and which has been committed to transmitting the faith through education and culture in the Catholic values of the New Evangelisation, as suggested by Pope John Paul II. Its teaching method is based on a customised approach with a small number of students per class and a personal tutor for each student. UCAM also offers a modern system of on-line teaching. Personal relationships, in the context of learning, are valued and for this reason each student is assigned a tutor. In addition, the classes have a reduced number of students. LEARNING IN ACTION The Catholic University of Murcia allows students to develop their own abilities for the real world. The UCAM Campus in Murcia has first rate infrastructure, laboratories and TV studio which, together with the practical subjects, prepare students to put into practice the knowledge they acquire. All students will be able to gain work experience in public or private institutions, where they can get a feel for their future field of expertise. For the more academic profiles, UCAM has more than 50 research teams who work in close collaboration with companies such as Coca Cola, Danone, LFP, Santander, Repsol and Vodafone. THE UNIVERSITY AND SPORTS The University has developed a special commitment to sport. UCAM sponsors more than 20 teams. It is the only European university that has a professional basketball team in the first national league (ACB League, Spain). The University has over 2,000 athletes. Following the British model, sport forms part of the DNA of UCAM, winner of the championship in the University Championships in Spain with 118 medals (76 gold). The best athletes of UCAM include Olympic medallists such as Mireia Belmonte and David Cal, and world cup participants such as Melanie Costa. 5 Javier Tebas Medrano President of the Professional Football League As president of the Professional Football League I have been offered the opportunity to introduce the LFP-UCAM Sports Management Institute, the result of the cooperation agreement signed with the Catholic University of Murcia. The commitment to training benefits from a firm commitment from the Football League. It is through qualified academic preparation that sports professionals can achieve better management at the head of clubs and institutions. According to many, as well as according to the judgement of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, we enjoy the best league in the world in Spain. Therefore it is very important that the sports organisations that participate in our official competitions, as well as in other sports, are capable of achieving management excellence, provided by professionals who are qualified and trained in areas such as administration, quality, research, and sports marketing and media. Thus, the LFP offers UCAM all its experience and knowledge so that the LFP-UCAM Sports Management Institute may offer quality post-graduate courses with internationally recognised qualifications. In this sense, sports management is one of the areas of expertise that has become more important due to efforts to effectively and efficiently manage each of the coordination and organisational aspects of sport. The content and development of this Masters in Sports Management and Direction is always adjusted to the needs and professional demands that students need for their professional practice. It is aimed at the management and direction of sports organisations, institutions and facilities - public or private - or the design, management and development of sports events of any nature or size. At this time of progressive adaptation to the European Higher Education Area, it is essential to continue our studies with a quality postgraduate qualification, specifically aimed at obtaining the skills that the industry demands to compete in a global world. To achieve this, the teaching staff have been carefully selected from highly qualified university academics and professionals from our country s top sports institutions. In order to appreciate the current reality of sport management, visits to the most representative facilities of the Community of Madrid and the Region of Murcia will be offered, as well as an international trip to Dubai and Doha, where students will be able to enjoy the most innovative facilities in the world. During this visit students will receive specialised courses covering different topics of sports management: professional leagues, sports tourism, sports marketing, sports media, economic management, sporting events, etc.

8 DESCRIPTION MBA in Sports Management and Direction Murcia Spain Part-time attendance 300 hours 1 academic year 60 ECTS 1ECTS = 25 hours 25 places available January 2015 course start date Friday: morning 09:00-14:00 / afternoon 16:00-21:00 Saturday: morning 09:00-14:00 OBJETIVES This Masters Degree is intended to train future sports managers for the normal function of directing sports organisations, with special emphasis on their management and planning. To this end, the Masters formulates the acquisition of advanced training of a specialised nature, geared towards a professional qualification. STUDENT PROFILE The Programme for the Masters Degree in Sports Management and Direction, is aimed at both professionals who already have experience in the area of sport management who want to update their knowledge in a rapidly changing arena, as well as at people who wish to further their career in sports management and planning. Similarly, it is intended for individuals who are ready to be leaders, contributing to human social and economic sustainable development, leaders with empathy and ethics who put effort into any project they encounter, with a team spirit and an eagerness to help others succeed. Graduates in any area of learning who wish to direct their career towards sports management.

10 CAREER PROSPECTS The training obtained through the Masters programme provides access to the job market in both the public and private sectors. A wide range of professional roles and profiles can be filled by graduates in sports management. The skills attained by the students prepare them for leadership positions as well as creating their own business plan as entrepreneurs. On completion of the program you will be qualified to: Correctly and accurately interpret the law regarding sports by which both public and private sports organisations are governed. Manage quality processes and policies in sport organisations. Resource planning (human, organisational and financial) of sports institutions. Manage any type of sports facility in a sustainable manner. Organise sporting events at local, national and international levels. Create a communication plan for organisations and sports events. Research and teach sports management.

11 QUALIFICATION This qualification has the recognition, backing and accreditation of the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) and the Professional Football League (LFP) of Spain. Both institutions enjoy high international prestige. In this way the professional and academic worlds work together in the training of professionals, qualified in all areas of sports management. Through its Physical Activity and Sport Science Faculty and the LFP-UCAM Sports Management Institute, UCAM has many partnership agreements with private and public entities (companies, associations, federations, councils, etc.), where our students can develop their practical and research activities. Once all studies have been completed, the student will receive the Official Title of a Masters Degree in Sports Management and Direction, in collaboration with the Professional Football League and the Spanish Olympic Committee. That also includes the endorsement of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE).

12 SYLLABUS MODULE I Basics of Sports Management 10 ECTS SUBJECT 1 Legal Aspects of Sports Management, Direction and Sponsorship 4 ECTS This subject details the legal aspects of sports organisations in Spain, exploring those considerations that can affect the decision making of sports institutions. SUBJECT 2 Research Methodology 6 ECTS Considers the elements necessary to understand the basic characteristics of market research methodology focusing on the direction and management of sports organisations. MODULE III 10 ECTS Planning, Human Resources and Financial Management MODULE II Sports Marketing and Communication 10 ECTS SUBJECT 5 3 ECTS Human Resources Management and Administration This subject focuses on employee enhancement, team dynamics in the processes implemented to motivate and facilitate employees to achieve the objectives of the organisation. SUBJECT 3 Sports Marketing 6 ECTS Sports marketing is one of the main resources available to ensure decision making that brings us closer to the efficient management of resources and reconciles the human, financial and technological resources aspects. SUBJECT 6 Strategic Planning 3 ECTS This subject aims to raise awareness of the importance that all future sports managers actions be aimed at a strategic vision for their company that must be known to, and shared with, all stakeholders. SUBJECT 4 Sport Communication and Protocol 4 ECTS SUBJECT 7 Financial Management 4 ECTS This subject teaches communication and protocol skills that are necessary for success in the sports market, always bearing in mind the distinctive characteristics of the sports product. The ability to communicate their message to specific audiences is fundamental to success in the sports management and direction environment The methods and procedures that are applied to the administration of sports organisations, taxes, purchasing, cost analysis and budgets, are indispensable tools for the management of sport organisations. Hence, this subject aims to show students the different techniques of financial planning to ensure the profitability of their sports products.

The sports manager must therefore be familiar with the tools necessary for their implementation, including both the objective quality as well as the quality perceived by the internal customer and the consumer. These placements provide students with the opportunity to receive practical experience in a professional working environment. Students can be placed in a professional or amateur sports company, service or organisation. Each student s progress will be supervised by a member of the organisation as well as by a tutor from the university. SUBJECT 9 Morphology and Planning of Sports Facilities and Equipment 4 ECTS This subject analyses the various types of facilities in order to deal with issues such as planning, scheduling and the organisation and control of sports facilities. It will also lead the students through the entire process of the building and maintenance of a sports facility. MODULE VI Final Thesis SUBJECT 12 Professional Final Thesis 10 ECTS SUBJECT 10 Organisation and Management of Sports Services and Events in Facilities 3 ECTS In this subject the student must produce an original work of a professional nature (a technical report, project development, etc.), based on the knowledge and skills acquired during the course of the Masters and the placements undertaken. To achieve this they will have the assistance of a tutor who will lay out the guidelines to be followed. This subject aims to help the students develop all the skills necessary to manage almost any aspect of a sporting event, including the planning, logistics, finance, sponsorships and agreements with suppliers, risk management and insurance, marketing.

17 INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL TRIP (DUBAI, DOHA AND ABU DHABI) During the course there will be an exciting international educational trip to Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi in which students can corroborate what they learned throughout the academic year, while at the same time they can enjoy the various tourist attractions in the area. Some of the sports complexes planned to be visited are the following*: Ski Dubai. The circuit in Abu Dhabi. Dubai Sport City Ski Dubai Qatar s Aspire Sports Academy Ciudad de Ferrari, Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital Khalifa International Stadium Sports City of Doha Khalifa International Tennis Complex As well as visits to the Qatar Committee, Professional Football League for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and various sports agencies both in Dubai and Doha. * The management reserves the right to modify the facilities due to organisational necessity. * The international educational trip is not included in the price of the Master. SPAIN EXCURSION (OPTIONAL) And, if the international trip were not enough, there will also be visits to various public and private sports institutions as well as facilities concerned with the organisation of sporting events, in Madrid and in the Region of Murcia. 18 ADMISSIONS PROCESS STEP 1 STEP 3 REQUIREMENTS The requirements for admittance to the Masters Programme are set out in Royal Decree 1393/2007, 29 October and its modifications in Article 9 of Royal Decree 861/2010, 2 July. Those who meet the following requirements may apply for admission to the Masters in Sports Management and Direction: -A profile of entry from Graduates in Physical Activity and Sport Science is recommended, as well as Graduates in any area of learning who wish to direct their career towards sports management. STEP 2 APPLICATION FOR A PLACE IN THE MASTERS PROGRAMME Application for admission to the Masters programme must be made after 1 April 2013, for commencement in January After the application deadline, the Directorate will select the Masters candidates and communicate the result to those admitted and not admitted.
