3 Research Methodology Module: Fundamentals of Sports Management Subject: Research Methodology Nature: Compulsory Number of credits: 6.0 Time Unit: Four months Subject teachers: Dr. D. Francisco De la Torre Olid Brief description of subject This subject contemplates the necessary elements to understand the basic characteristics of scientific methodology, the potential information resources and basic tools to prepare a technical report, focused on the leadership and management of sports organizations. These elements will develop a critical and evaluative attitude towards the different applications of the management and direction of sport entities in line with the principles that govern and guide that management, in order to guide the students in the progressive development of their online work as sports managers. Prerequisites No prerequisites are considered. Objectives of the subject 1. To respond to the current needs of the sports phenomenon, amongst which includes the specialization of sports management professionals in each of the specific areas of sport. 2. Provide sufficient knowledge and research techniques to perform the functions that are associated with the field of sports management in each of the different career opportunities that are currently offered. 3

4 Competencies and results of learning General competencies G1: To acquire skills through the teaching-learning process that enable the continuation of training and learning in the field of sports management in order to establish contacts with teachers and professionals, in an independent manner. G2: Acquire and consolidate the initiative and entrepreneurship to implement projects related to sports management. Specific competencies S16.- To understand the concepts of information systems, information technology and sports technology. S26.- To identity, design and implement the opportunities offered by information systems and information technology. Results of learning (RL16) To master the use of applied ICT in sports entities. (RL16) To understand the different applied uses of ICT in sports management. (RL24) To master the research methodology that is applied to sports entities. (RA24) To understand the use of applied software in research. (RL24) To design and implement research designs in sports management. 4

Introduction to scientific methodology. Subject II. Reading, analysis and writing of scientific texts. Subject III. The scientific problem under investigation. Subject IV. Tools and applications in planning and organization. Subject V. Statistical programs for research. Subject VI. Data analysis using descriptive and inferential statistics. Relationship with other subjects in the curriculum This course is closely connected to the module of Fundamentals of Sports Management. Evaluation system Examinations in June/September - Assessment of workshops, exhibitions and discussions in class: 30% of the final grade. - Assessment of final work and work dynamic developed in the seminars: 70% of the final grade. Examinations in September/October - Theoretical-practical part: 100% of the final grade. 5

Course recommendations Attend the classes and participate actively. Focus efforts on understanding the content of the subject. Have in mind the knowledge acquired from other subjects within the module of the foundations of sports management, in order to relate it to the topics covered in the current subject and therefore gain a comprehensive and informed knowledge. Use the established timetable, the Virtual Campus or to consult and share any doubts with the teacher. Consult the recommended bibliography in each subject and not limit oneself to only studying notes taken in class. The presentation slides are a guide to the subject, they are not the notes and it is not the unique content. In written work and tests marks will be subtracted from the final mark for: a) 0.2 for lack of accents, b) 0.5 for slight misspellings, and c) 1 for serious spelling mistakes. Didactic materials The didactics materials which are going to be used in this subject to facilitate the acquisition of skills are: - Power Point presentations. The teacher will use a guide (not the notes for the subject). The student should elaborate their own notes using all of the didactic materials that are described here. 6

7 - Scientific articles, which will be shared on the Virtual Campus and will be related to each of the subjects. Forums and social networks (Twitter) will be used to ask questions for reflection and practical application of each of the articles. - Supporting documents, which will also be shared on the Virtual Campus or can be requested by students who search for them via information and communication technologies. - Concept maps and reports forum. 7
