2 SPEAKERS PROFILE Mr. David Janssen Mr. Janssen David, Ing, M. Eng, Mechanical, is the Managing Director of the Engineering Department at Arcomet Group, the world biggest tower crane rental company based in Belgium. He is responsible for - Safety and application engineering as a service for Tower Cranes - Design of self erecting cranes on stationary and mobile base - Implementation of Quality and Safety programs in the Arcomet Group He is also the Lecturer of the CVO High School in Belgium since Er. Mohd Ismadi, Deputy Director Er. Mohd Ismadi is currently the Deputy Director with the OSH Specialists Department of the Ministry's Occupational Safety & Health Division. He has over 18 years of professional experience in the field of workplace safety and health (WSH) particularly in the areas of WSH legislation, WSH Management Systems, Pressure Vessel Safety and Lifting Equipment Safety. Er Ismadi is currently also a member of the National Crane Safety Taskforce which has been setup to specifically raise standards of Crane Safety in Singapore. Er Ismadi has also actively contributed to the work of various technical and professional committees such as with the BCA, SPRING, Professional Engineers Board and SAC on specific safety and health and other technical subjects and has given regular lectures on WSH locally and internationally. A Mechanical Engineer by profession, Er Ismadi is a registered Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers Board, Singapore. Mr. Francesco Valente Mr. Franseco Valente, Mechanical Engineer, is currently the Application Engineering Manager of TEREX Tower Cranes, part of the Terex Corporation. The office is taking care of the relationship between the Company and its Customers for technical matters, mainly job site projects and applications. He is also responsible for the Technical publications and Certifications. Mr. Oh Boon Chye, Jason Mr Oh Boon Chye, Jason went to study overseas and graduated with a B Eng Honours degree in Civil Engineering, from the University of Glasgow, UK. He was appointed as the full-time PE Assignee for several projects to supervise and witness the Tower Cranes erection/ dismantling and lifting activities during the contract period. Jason, a member of the Institution, attended accreditation from WSH Council as a trainer for the PSH Coordinator Course after participating in the inaugural train-the-trainer course in August Currently, he is a Project Manager working with Chiu Teng Construction Co. 3 SYNOPSIS What is new in EN 14493? - By David Janssen, Managing Director of the Engineering department at Arcomet Group The Committee for European Construction Equipment (CECE) has endorsed the decision by major crane manufacturers to apply the EN European safety standard to all cranes manufacturer from 1 January Mr. David Janssen will explain the new requirements of this EN Case Study of Tower Crane Accident, what can we learn from this? By Francesco Valente, Application engineering manager of TEREX Tower cranes As a reputable tower crane manufacturer, Terex has gathered some good database of some tower crane accidents in the world. Majority of these accidents are caused by human errors, not mechanical failure of the equipment. Mr. Francesco Valente will share with us what we can learn from these accidents, and how to prevent this from happening again. Raising Standards of Crane Safety in Singapore A Total System Approach By Er. Mohd Ismadi, Deputy Director, OSH Specialists Department, Occupational Safety and Health Division, MOM Workplace accidents and incidents involving Cranes continue to be a key concern in Singapore. Today, we see many cranes in use in Singapore s worksites, especially in recent years during the construction sector s boom. Since 2007, we have seen an increasing trend of crane related fatalities in the construction sector. The sector accounts for 33% of crane-related fatalities in This went up to 60% in 2008 and 75% in This year to-date, we have already seen nine incidents involving cranes, most from the construction sector. Two of them had resulted in fatalities, another in an injury, and the other six, fortunately, did not injure any workers. We all know that crane incidents can lead to devastating outcomes, including damage to public property and possible harm to members of the public. To arrest this situation, the Ministry is working closely with the Workplace Safety and Health Council and the National Crane Safety Taskforce to raise safety standards of Crane Safety in Singapore. A three-pronged total system approach has been taken to address this issue which includes Enhancing Capability and Competency, Enhancing Awareness of Key Issues and Strengthening Legislation and Standards. Tower Crane Risk Assessment User Perspective By Jason Oh, Health & Safety Engineering Technical Committee, IES Construction is one of the prime mover in the Singapore economy. For the last decade, we have observed increasingly usage of heavy lifting capacity cranes, such as Tower cranes erected at great height to facilitate the construction works. To expedite the construction cycle, very often heavy precast components were designed to reduce the construction cycle and for speedily installation. As the plot ratio for the building development has decreased over the years, the availability of space and area for the Tower cranes deployment are questionable. This impose potential hazards and risks that to be addressed. The pre-installation planning consideration is one of the most important aspects of Tower crane safety. This will reduce the potential risks and the impact to the immediate workplace, surrounding services and structures. Jason will share with you his past project experience involving Tower cranes planning.

Withdrawals/Refunds of Fees Notice of withdrawal must be given in writing to IESA. Policy on refund of course fee is as follows: FULL refund if we receive your written notice of withdrawal at least 7 days before the commencement of the Event. NO refund otherwise. No show of participant would not be accepted as reason for withdrawal/refund. Replacement is allowed but restricted to once only. Replacement will be allowed only if written notice is received by us at least 3 days before the commencement of the event. However, when an IES member is replaced by a non-member, the participant has to pay the difference in the relevant fees at least 3 days before the commencement date. Cancellation/Postponement Changes in Venue, Dates, Time and Speakers for the Events can occur due to unforeseen circumstances. IES reserves the full rights to cancel or postpone the Event under such circumstances without prior reasons.
