3 Your presenters Martin Pettingell, Partner, Clarke Willmott LLP Martin specialises in child and adolescent traumatic brain injury claims having had extensive experience in the conduct of these complex and difficult matters. Martin is Chairman of the brain injury charity Headway Somerset and also acts as a Court appointed Deputy looking after the financial affairs of clients who are unable to do so for themselves. He is particularly interested in issues of capacity and the implementation of the Mental Capacity Act The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers recently published a paper by Martin providing a comparison of the laws on capacity in England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic. Martin also has a niche practice in bringing and defending claims arising from exposure to asbestos and in particular mesothelioma. Marguarita Tyne, Partner, Clarke Willmott LLP Marguarita specialises in representing the victims of medical accidents. In addition to brain injury work, she acts for claimants in a wide range of cases including spinal injury, delayed cancer diagnosis, orthopaedic mismanagement, surgical error, gynaecological injuries and mistakes arising from systemic failures. Marguarita is a member of both the Law Society and AvMA Clinical Negligence Panels. She is described by Chambers UK 2016 as excellent, very thorough and very client focused. She is an experienced clinical negligence partner who regularly handles complex birth injury cases. Matthew Porter-Bryant, Barrister, Guildhall Chambers Since being called to the Bar in 1999, Matthew has specialised in personal injury and clinical negligence work. He has been recognised in legal directories for his consistent success rate and is also recommended in cases of suspected fraud. Matthew also sits as a Deputy District Judge further strengthening his understanding of litigation and the court process. Robert Sowersby, Barrister, Guildhall Chambers Robert specialises in clinical work: he is well regarded in the field, and is consistently recommended as a leading junior in the main legal directories. He has been praised for being down to earth and client-friendly, and for his skill in dealing both with experts, and with unusually difficult cases. Alison Taylor, Business Development Manager & Pre Settlement Expert, Frenkel Topping Alison had a scholarship, to train in mental rehabilitation and social welfare with the Richmond Fellowship. She is a member of the Personal Finance Society, holds their Diploma and is looking to achieve Chartered status in the near future. Having practiced as an independent Financial Advisor (IFA) since 1983, she has specialised in the investment and protection of damages awards for the last 25 years. Alison has been involved in many leading cases both from the investment perspective and as a Court Expert for Structured Settlements, Periodic Payment Orders and Personal Injury Trusts. She regularly runs workshops for lawyers on various aspects of her role as an IFA working alongside the legal profession and has been featured both in the mainstream and legal press. Alison is an active supporter and trainer for APIL, PIBA, Headway, the SIA and AVMA. The Guardian neatly summarised her work as that of a Financial Social Worker who loves her job. Nicholas Lee, Managing Director, Paragon Costs Nick, an Accredited Costs Lawyer and MD of Paragon Costs, began specialising in legal costs in Ten years later, he created Paragon Costs helping to build its exceptional service standards and outstanding retention of both clients and staff that has been the foundation of this successful business. Known for always being commercial and practical, colleagues and clients appreciate how thoroughly Nick assesses the merits in any claims, before giving his experienced and realistic advice. Nick is responsible for Advocacy, technical support, business development and client management. He also delivers seminars and writes for legal publications giving constructive guidance on the latest developments. He is also on the Civil Court User Group and Treasurer for Bristol Law Society. He leads the South West Regional Group for the Association of Costs Lawyers. Nick frequently conducts Applications, Costs Management Conferences, Summary and Detailed Assessments before District Judges, Cost Judges and Masters in the County Court, High Court and Senior Courts Costs Offices.

4 Your presenters Richard Harries, Partner, Barcan+Kirby Richard is a Partner at Barcan+Kirby, Bristol Law Society's Law Firm of the Year He is also the head of Barcan+Kirby's talented team of personal & medical injury lawyers, based in Queen Square. Richard is a member of the executive committee of the Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers and their Public Affairs group. He is a member of the Law Society's Clinical negligence Panel and has been widely recognised by Chambers UK for his expertise in this area of litigation. Andrew Nicoll, Keith Carter & Associates Andrew has worked since 1990 as an employment consultant, reporting as an expert and advising on vocational and earnings issues in more than 3,500 cases. His main workload comes from personal injury and clinical negligence litigation, though he also works in employment and family law. The majority of his work focuses on England/Wales and Scotland but he has provided reports on labour markets in most European countries, North America, Australasia, the Middle East, China and the Indian sub continent. Naomi Rees, Barrister, 3PB Naomi is a personal injury and clinical negligence specialist at 3PB. Her practice is predominantly multitrack Claimant work, although she a substantial Defendant local authority practice. Naomi is therefore a frequent attendee at CCMC hearings. Naomi s clinical negligence work frequently involves complex and subtle issues of breach, causation, quantum and limitation issues and Naomi s science background allows her have a detailed knowledge of the subject matters raised and to adeptly handle expert witnesses and their evidence. Steve Page, PH Costs Solutions Steve is a Costs Lawyer with over 20 years experience and started his career acting predominantly for Defendants. Having spent a number of years acting for Defendants, Steve took the opportunity to further his involvement in Claimant Personal Injury developing particular specialism in Employer s Liability and Industrial Disease claims. Steve has since gone on to develop his knowledge of Claimant Commercial and Civil matters, including Professional Negligence, Clinical Negligence and Travel Claims. Steve is a Co-Director of PH Costs Solutions. David Regan, Barrister, St John s Chambers David practises in all areas of the law of personal injury and has extensive experience of medical and other professional negligence actions. He acts for both claimants and defendants, writes for the New Law Journal and the Solicitor s Journal and regularly lectures on aspects of personal injury law. He has particular expertise in cases of fatal injury and complex causation disputes. David s areas of strength include highways claims, fatal accidents, industrial disease and medical negligence. Legal 500, Personal injury and Clinical Negligence (2015) Christopher Taylor, Barrister, Queen Square Chambers Christopher is head of Chambers at Queen Square in Bristol. He practises exclusively in personal injury & clinical negligence work undertaking a wide range of high value, multi-track cases especially those involving fatal accident, head injury and catastrophic spinal injuries. His range includes industrial accident and diseases claims. He is also currently involved in the MoM hip implant litigation.
