1 Executive Committee Election Nomination Profiles November 2013 Instructions: The election of Executive Committee members for the upcoming year will be held electronically between the 4 th and 15 th of November Polling opens on Monday the 4 th and closes at 5pm on Friday the 15 th. No votes will be accepted after this time. To vote, review this document and the names of your six (6) selections to admin@maitlandbusiness.com.au before the closing time. All candidates are listed in alphabetical order. Successful candidates will be announced by the Returning Officer at the Annual General Meeting on November 21 st 2013.

2 CRISTEN CABLE Kis Marketing was established by Cristen to offer simple effective marketing solutions to small and medium businesses within regional NSW. She is passionate about the power of marketing and takes pride in enabling businesses to thrive in their communities. She believes marketing does not need to be complex or cost the earth to be effective and get results. Cristen has over a decade of marketing experience. She has been both a marketing manager and public relations manager in various industries, planning and implementing a huge range of marketing activities. Born into private enterprise, Cristen has an understanding of small to medium business that other marketers lack. Her expertise and logical business nature enhance her performance when developing marketing strategies for her Kis Marketing clients. Cristen s qualifications include a Masters Degree in Marketing with Distinction, Management Diploma in Marketing, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and international media qualifications through City & Guilds, London. She is also a casual lecturer at the University of Newcastle teaching marketing to undergraduate and postgraduate students. With a heart to see local business thrive in the Hunter, Cristen is a valued member of the Maitland Business Chamber executive team and a recognised Certified Practising Marketer with the Australian Marketing Institute.

3 MERRIL DE FIDDES Merril is the founder of The Social Media Training School based in Maitland, NSW. She is a graduate Business Coach from the Brendon Nichols Business Coaching Program (2010). Merril is also a graduate Trainer from the international acclaimed T Harv Eker Training program recognised by Success Resources and delivered by Blair Singer, founder of Little Voice Mastery Institute in Phoenix Arizona. Merril has more than 32 years of business experience and for the past four years has studied social media concepts and how this phenomena is transforming business by implementing the correct methods of marketing on relevant Social Media platforms. Merril continually enjoys the challenges of new concepts with her undying passion for creating thriving businesses. Merril s business in the realm of Social Media can turn your business around if you follow the strategies that she teaches consistently and with commitment. Merril s mission is to be able to produce the best program of training and education within Social Media that will enhance your business and to create for you increased sales and profits. Merril is passionate about helping business owners and managers achieve their goals and grow their businesses to the next level. Merril is married, lives in East Maitland and has a passion in seeing Maitland progress in the future.

4 BRAD EVERETT Brad joined the Hunter Land team in 2006 as Land Use Director. Brad's role is to identify, qualify and secure strategic, large scale development holdings so that Hunter Land continues to be a market leader in the provision of industrial, commercial and Residential developments in the Hunter Valley and beyond. Brad has tertiary qualifications in Planning and Management, with over 25 years practical experience in planning and environmental areas. Brad's technical background combined with a practical outcome orientated approach ensures that opportunities are explored and brought to fruition in a timely and cost effective manner.

5 HILTON GRUGEON AM Hilton Grugeon has contributed greatly to the growth and development of the Hunter Valley, most notably the City of Maitland and surrounding district for which he was made Freeman of the City of Maitland. He settled at Berry Park, Morpeth, with his wife Beverley and four children in the 1980 s and has been an active Maitland community member in business and commerce, farming, the cultural life of the City and provides support and assistance to schools, sporting groups, disadvantaged & disabled people. He supports and gives generously to the community through charitable organizations, the Maitland Show, the cultural and recreational life of the City being a Patron of organisations such as the Maitland Arts Council, Maitland Black & White Committee and Morpeth Museum. He was made Member of the Order of Australia in 2006 for contributions to economic development in the Hunter Region and as a benefactor to charity. Hilton has extensive trading businesses in the Hunter and is a director of the Hunter Medical Research Institute, he is also an active executive member of the Maitland Business Chamber.

6 KERRY HALLETT Kerry Hallett is the manager of Hunter Region BEC (HRBEC), a not for profit organisation assisting the SME sector in both start-up and existing businesses. Kerry has had a long and varied business career, with 16 years in the Rural (& subsequently State) Bank, assisting her husband in managing cattle, sheep and chicken farms, cellar door sales and managing doctors surgeries, before joining HRBEC. She was appointed manager in December Kerry and her family have a small hobby reptile business as well. As well as her many years of experience, Kerry has a belief in continuous improvement, undertaking many courses. She now has TAFE Certificate 4 IT and Diploma of Business Management (with distinction) as well as Certificate 4 Training, Certificate 4 Practice Management through University of New England, Post Graduate Certificate Business Administration and MBA through University of Newcastle. She has presently nearly completed the 2 nd year of her Doctorate. Kerry is a past president of Maitland BPW. She was nominated for Telstra Business Woman in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 making the short round of interviews in Kerry has been a member of the Maitland Chamber Executive for the past 2 years and involved in the Membership Marketing and Events, and Policy and Advocacy subcommittees. She is passionate about small business and wants every business to reach its full potential. One tool for this is to have, and be a part of, a strong Chamber.

7 KIM MONROE I have 29 years experience in administration and management (11 of that being in the motor industry). Together with my husband Darren we own and run the Aussie franchise in Maitland. Our partnership with Aussie started in February 2006 when Darren became a mobile lender working from a regional office in Kotara. In March 2009 we were offered the Maitland franchise and opened our store on 1 September Since then we have won two national awards and continue to strive for excellence in our services. I live locally and have done since I am also a Civil Marriage Celebrant and a Justice of the Peace (appointed in 1989). I am on the P&C Committee at Bolwarra Public School (Assistant Uniform Shop Co-Ordinator) and was part of a Trivia Night Committee which raised over $11,000 for the school in April this year. BNI has been part of my life since December I m a member of a local BNI Chapter and was appointed as an Ambassador for BNI in April Since opening our franchise in 2009 I have become interested in the development of Maitland CBD and surrounding businesses. The drive and the passion for Maitland business to succeed depends on the determination and support of the Maitland Business Chamber and Maitland City Council. The growth in the Maitland area depends on the success of the local businesses it is imperative that Maitland continues to grow to attract more businesses and therefore attract more people into the area.

8 SUE PRESCOTT In my position as the general manager and advertising manager of the Maitland Mercury, which has extensive dealings with the broad spectrum of businesses across the local community, as well as my connection to civic and social leaders, I believe it is fitting that I remain a member of the Maitland Business Chamber executive and its relevant subcommittees. The Mercury - which is an important business entity in its own right, being a major employer of people from the Maitland and surrounding LGA - is also in a key position to promote the profile of both the chamber and our city. As general manager of the newspaper, I am able to actively champion the chamber's mission statement and core values. In my capacity as advertising manager, I have a close association with many local businesses, assisting them with their marketing campaigns and strategies to improve their businesses. Personally, my family has had a long and proud connection to Maitland and the business community and still today has a stake hold in a commercial property in the Heritage Mall. I am aware of the challenges that face the business sector and as a person who is passionate about the future of this great city in which we live and operate, look forward to the continued opportunity to serve the chamber.

9 BARRY SIMS Barry and Jill Sims moved from Brisbane to Ashtonfield in March this year and have now made their home permanently in the Hunter. We decided to downsize our property and as all of our Children and Grandchildren live in the region we saw it as an opportunity to relocate and be closer to our Family Prior to leaving Brisbane Barry was the President of the Kenmore District Chamber for 12 months and prior to this was the Secretary for 6 years. 10 NICK SWANSON I am very excited to put my name forward for possible inclusion in the Maitland Business Chamber Executive. I have owned franchise s with Harvey Norman for over 20 years in locations up and down the East Coast of Australia. Franchise s include, Port Macquarie, Windsor QLD, Carindale QLD, Erina NSW, Maribyrnong VIC. As a franchisee in the Harvey Norman group, I operate as a small business under a big banner. I started in management in Bennetts Green, Newcastle in Opened the Computer Superstore in Maitland, Ken Tubman Drive, Cinema Centre in I also owned a Café in Erina, Delish of Erina in I have a passion for the region and it s people and look forward in assisting the region to get it s fair share of support, and see the local business s prosper. I m married to Meryl Swanson from 2HD, and we have two girls at school locally.

11 JULIE WICKS My involvement with local Chambers of Commerce dates back to 2003 where I acted as secretary for 2 years, prior to being elected as President for 3 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Maitland Chamber executive board. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to provide input and express my views in relation to improving membership benefits via participation in the membership sub-committee. This committee has begun to develop strategies to improve the benefits received by our members. My previous employment as Member Liaison Officer with the Hunter Business Chamber has been instrumental in providing me with a personal understanding of the needs of business and the challenges they face. I have had the privilege to connect with many business owners, which not only has created lifelong connections, but also increased my knowledge of the many facets of business across many industries. It s this practical experience, understanding and my energy that I bring to the board of the Maitland Business Chamber. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve local business on our chamber. I believe in what we represent as a local Chamber and it is imperative that we continue to grow and listen to our members. The Maitland Business Chamber is the voice for Maitland business. As part of the executive I plan to continue to listen to our members to ensure that business, both large and small are heard.
