ENERGY Building Smart Green Cities of the Future - Today Sustainable Florida John Masiello 01 October DNV GL October 2015 SAFER, SMARTER, GREENER

Agenda What is a smart city? Some statistics Case studies of smart green city initiatives The opportunity and the challenge 2

ENERGY Definitions and Numbers 3 SAFER, SMARTER, GREENER

What is a Smart City? Many cities are pursuing smart strategies to address growing demands According to Wikipedia A smart city uses digital technologies: to enhance performance and well-being reduce costs and resource consumption engage more effectively and actively with its citizens 4

Our perspective: cities need to be Smart and Green Better management of energy supply and demand resources to meet utility and city goals Integration of: Smart grid technology Energy efficiency Distributed generation Solar PV/thermal Smart appliances Home area networks/displays Electric vehicles/charging Smart street lighting Micro-grids Technologies that increase resiliency IT & Telecom Sustainable economy Health Waste treatment Water Energy Social infrastructure Urban transportation Sewage The Smart Green City 5

Smart Green Cities cover a variety of topics Within the context of society as a whole Main interests for city councils in smart city initiatives are generally in liveability, sustainability, IT & telecom, and clean energy but also water, sewage, waste treatment, transportation, health, energy efficiency, social infrastructure, sustainable economy, and many others Increasingly, being smart means resiliency and adaptability to climate change The Smart Green City Sustainable economy Waste treatment Water IT & Telecom Energy Health Social infrastructure Urban transportation Sewage 6

Why a focus on cities? According to the United Nations, the world s urban population will grow from 3.9 billion in 2014 to more than 6 billion by 2045 This will place huge pressures on cities alreadyburdened infrastructures City-Level Energy Decision Making: Data Use in Energy Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation in U.S. Cities, NREL, July

Smart Cities market Cities will spend more than $1 Trillion between 2014 and 2020 on smart technology and services Transformation is a marriage between the physical and digital Increasing dependence on electricity Virtually everything will be connected, transparent, accessible through the Internet of Things (IoT) Growth in spending is highest in energy and government systems (18% and 13% Compound Annual Growth Rate [CAGR]) $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $50.00 $- Smart City Spending 2014 Spending 2020 Projected spending Source: Frost & Sullivan 8

Barriers to Smart Green City investment Mayors and CIOs say: Transformation into a Smart City: Everyone sees it as important, nobody knows what to do. Digitization happens department by department No department uses the same databases Staff resistance to transition to web, digital formats is a major factor Change requires political leadership Generational issue newer citizens, leaders were born into a world with the Internet; they have high expectations and low patience 9

ENERGY Case Studies 10 SAFER, SMARTER, GREENER

Smart Green Cities linked to global trends 11 DNV GL October 2015

PowerMatching City A DNV GL pilot project Groningen, Netherlands

PowerMatching City in practice Network of Homes Solar PV Smart devices Dishwasher Clothes washer Heating and cooling Electric vehicle charging Home Area Level Optimization Storing energy air water battery 13

PowerMatching City is an approach for customer engagement Enthusiastic and interested customers Local sustainable utility provider State-of-the-art technology Exciting smart energy services Utilities: New energy services & processes Move from commodity to service KWh to Climate control 14

Smart Outdoor Lighting Public Outdoor Lighting as Sensory Network Chattanooga, TN

Smart streetlights provide multiple benefits Networked LED streetlight systems LED electronics more conducive to wireless communication than other types of lighting Wireless network of streetlamps Sensors embedded in the light fixtures collect and feed data into software Capabilities: Lighting brightens as vehicles or pedestrians pass by Controllability (brightening) to help emergency responders more quickly identify source of 911 calls Alerting sanitation department to empty trash cans 16

Smart Streetlights in the U.S. San Francisco Bay Area, CA (Silicon Valley building) Networked parking lot lights, use license plate recognition to store data about vehicles Las Vegas, NV (Las Vegas City Hall) Intelligent LED street lights with video, audio recording capabilities Option to include digital LED banner for community message Chattanooga, TN (city-wide) Monitor, control all streetlights (brighten and dim) 17

Smart Water Systems Sanford, FL 18

Smart water utilities Sanford was using natural gas to dry out biosolids to meet Class A standards for waste Contracted with a vendor to purchase a Biosolids Gasification System This new system dries out the biosolids by using the embedded energy in the biosolids, eliminating the need to burn natural gas Eliminating the need for natural gas in the biosolid drying process will save the city $10 million over 20 years Energy water nexus is increasing all the time According to the Smart Cities Council Readiness Guide: Visitors to the utility department in Sanford, Florida will see a commercially operating regional biosolids disposal system with financial and environmental benefits to the host utility and surrounding wastewater systems. 19

Smart Resilient Cities Long Island, NY 20

Risk management as part of Smart City strategy Long Island case study addressed prevention as a risk management measure Other risk management measure categories could include: Preparation Response Recovery Optimal strategies are likely to include a portfolio of measures 21

Smart City Technologies Sample of smart cities capabilities through emerging tech 22

Smart LEDs: moving beyond traditional energy savings Smart LED street lights offer many more features than basic illumination 23

Traffic engineering based on smart data Case Study: Uber and Waze (Google) are sharing anonymized travel data with the City of Boston to apply smart data to traffic decongestion Data could be used to quickly communicate traffic causes to police, and adjust street light durations to benefit public transportation (e.g. Boston s Silver Line)

Solar-powered, mobile EV charger 25

Sharing citywide pollution data with citizens Argonne National Laboratory has launched Array of Things project to install hundreds of pollution data-gathering nodes throughout the City of Chicago This real time data on air quality, sound volume, temperature, and humidity will be available to the public Data will be studied in relation to health, quality of life, and other measurements 26

Improving water infrastructure to save energy and water Leaks in US water pipes loses over 2.1 trillion gallons of potable water each year Water pipes with sensor technology linked to central control systems can quickly identify major leaks to increase water and energy efficiency

Storm water management based on weather data Storm water systems can adjust based on weather predictions and real-time data

ENERGY Challenges and Opportunities 29 SAFER, SMARTER, GREENER

Roadmaps for Smart Green Cities Gateways versus Roadblocks Most smart projects begin along one dimension that s OK! As long as you avoid a silo mentality A Smart Green City happens through collaboration between departments Coordinated planning results in greater efficiencies and benefits Greater operational efficiencies Better customer engagement Manage community roll-out of smart cities technologies Smart Green City Planning Activities Conduct a preliminary assessment of needs, resources, risks Develop preliminary data inventory on buildings, energy use, etc. Identify key pain points, priorities Understand the range of technologies, approaches possible Consider funding, financing sources Create a Smart Green Cities implementation plan 30

Opportunity: White House initiative White House announced a Smart Cities initiative for upgrading our cities $160 million promised in federal grants to help cities find new solutions, with a focus on pilot projects and experimentation with costeffective solutions. Breaks down into two categories, $45 million in grants and investments going towards building a research infrastructure for smart city development $115 million in proposed spending and investments dedicated to creating specific new solutions in the areas of "safety, energy, climate preparedness, transportation, healthcare and more." The Department of Energy (DOE) will invest almost $10 million to expand efforts to support the emergence of smart, energy-efficient and low-emission cities DNV GL will stay on top of developments for accessing this funding Stay tuned!

Final thought The future ain t what it used to be. -Yogi Berra
