1 Dear Parents, Summer s BEST 2016 has arrived! The Bethel Public Schools will be offering many new and dynamic programs. We hope to create a summertime adventure of discovery, fun, and learning that will build knowledge and enrich your child. The goal of the summer program is to encourage children to explore new skills, talents, and interests as well as maintain and sharpen academic skills, boost academic confidence, and reinforce the value of education. The Enrichment programs are self- funding. The cost of each program is set to cover the cost of the teacher and the materials. You will be sending your child to a fun, safe, educational program. Save the month of July to enroll your child in a rewarding summer experience! In-Person At the Bethel Board of Education Office, 3 rd floor, Bethel Municipal Center on Monday, April 25, 2016, 8:00 AM- 12:30 PM. Through The School Or By Mail Use the registration form/ emergency contact form on the back of this brochure and return it with a check or money order to the address on the form or hand it into school with your child in an envelope clearly marked Summer s BEST. Any registrations received before April 25 th will be put onto class lists at noon on April 25 th. ***REGISTRATION ENDS JUNE 1, Anyone wanting to register after June 1 will need to come to Berry School on or after July 5, Questions? Phone Ext 375 DROP OFF & PICK UP * Please do not pull into the bus lane/front circle at Berry School. Pre-Kindergarten: Drop-Off: Students arriving for summer school should arrive through the door located at the far end of the Kindergarten/ Circle of Friends wing. Summer School staff will be attending to this door on a daily basis. Students arriving late must enter through the front door and sign in at the main office. Pre-Kindergarten:Parent Pick-up: At the dismissal times (11:30 and 12:00) preschoolers will be picked up from their classrooms. Please enter at the far Circle of Friends door, pick up your child and sign them out in their classroom and exit through the side COF door. Grades K-3: Drop Off: Students should be dropped off at the side door of Berry School. There will be signs and staff to direct you to the proper door. Students will be walked to class by high school volunteers. Grades K-3: Pick-up- At (10:00 and 12:00) Parents must wait outside the designated door for dismissal and should be ready to present a driver s license or other form of identification. Grades K-1 pick- up in Gym Grades 2-3 pick- up in Cafeteria. PLEASE NOTE: parents with children at different pick-up sites will need to walk outside the building to sign-out their children at different doors on first day. Please stop in office on first day to have your children sent to the same location at dismissal time. THANK YOU for your cooperation! Student Release Written authorization must be given for a child to be released from the Summer s BEST program to any person other than the child s parent(s) or legal guardian. The Summer s BEST Calendar The Summers BEST programs take place Monday- Friday. Programs will begin on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 and extend through Friday July 29, The programs will generally run from 8:30 AM to10:00 AM, followed by a supervised outdoor break and snack from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM. A second session will run from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Pre- K programs take place from 9:00-11:30. There is also an extended day program from 12:00-2:30.

2 Extended Learning Programs Bethel Public Schools will be offering a four-week summer program for improvement in Reading, Writing, and Math for students in Kindergarten through grade 5, as well as a Pre-Kindergarten Skills program. These programs will meet Monday through Friday, from July 5 July 29, These classes will be small and grouped according to grade level and ability. These Extended Learning Programs are offered to students by invitation from their teacher and/or principal and are free of cost. These extended learning programs are offered to students in the Bethel Public Schools only. Students who are invited are strongly urged to attend. Transportation Limited bus service to and from the Summer s BEST programs will be offered. There is a $10.00 fee for the summer, or any part of the summer. Buses will run to school before 8:30 AM and return home at 12:00 PM. There is no bus at 10:00 AM. The busses run limited routes on the main roads in town. Actual stops will be added after registration. There will be no bus service for Pre-K students. Students wanting bus service must register by May 13, Grades Listed - Enrichment programs are offered to specific grades. These grades listed in the brochure are the student s present grade (2015/2016 school year). Snacks- Students should bring a nut-free snack and a drink from home each day. Food At School- For safety reasons, the Summer School Nurse has asked that NO FOOD be brought in to share with classes/ other students (ie: NO class parties/ treats). Park and Recreation Connection- Students in grades 1-4 may go from the Summer s BEST programs directly to Bethel Parks and Recreation playground camp. A BEST assistant will escort these students to the Parks and Recreation camp. Students MUST be register through Park and Rec. NURSE COVERAGE- The Nurse will be available at Berry School during the summer session. Please do not send your child to school sick (ie: fever, rash, earache, nauseated). Students will not be able to receive over the counter medications during the summer. Students needing a doctor s orders for Medication (ie: Epi pens) need to completely fill out the form on the last page of this brochure. 4 STORIES ON STAGE This class will focus on all of the aspects of putting on a show! We will work on bringing one reader's theatre script TO LIFE! We will spend part of each class working on our basic drama skills (learning parts of the stage, vocal projection, telling a story, building a character, etc.) and part of each class working on our script! Students will not only be actors they will also be responsible for making some props, set, and costume pieces. SUMMER COUNTS!- FREE A program designed to develop the skills Kindergarteners need to be successful in school and prepare them for the structure of Kindergarten. Students will work on phonemic awareness, fine and gross motor skills, number sense, and appropriate kindergarten behavior in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
