1 FRANKLIN SUMMER ART, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CAMPS All Camps held at the Franklin Recreation Complex 1120 Hillsboro Road Franklin, Tn REGISTRATION BEGINS Thursday, MARCH 6th For registration call ext or Cindy Moore Ext Science Camps Young Scientists Kitchen Chemist I What do vinegar, salt, eggs, food coloring and Diet Coke have in common? They are all items found in our kitchens.and in the experiments we will try out in this camp. We will play around with these ingredients plus many other conventional kitchen items to see what happens when we mix a little of this and a little of that together. Engage your young chemist! Please bring a light snack and water. 2 Brain Builders Lego Space Camp Build with Lego Galaxy Squad, Star Wars and Mars Mission sets creating a setting that is Out of this World, all while learning how to follow building directions. Then complete your mission by designing your own Martian or something else extraterrestrial from your creative imagination. Dates: 6/9 & 6/10 Ages: 5yrs 12yrs Class Fee: $60.00 Supply Fee: $10.00 payable to instructor Instructor: Kari Kaparos for more information Brain Builders Lego Robotics Class 1 Build and program Lego Mindstorm NXT robots while learning how each of the sensors work. Design your own program using the NXT Brain and NXT software. Learn how to transfer data to the Brain. Upgrade your autonomous robot delivering a good understanding of how all aspects of the Mindstorm system work. This class will build different robots from the morning session. 3 Brain Builders Lego Chima Camp Build with Lego Chima block sets while learning to follow building directions. Work in teams to construct an obstacle course to race your Chima speeders. Then build a hideout from your creative imagination to help keep your Chi orbs safe. Days: Thursday & Friday Dates: 6/12 & 6/13 Ages: 6yrs - 12yrs Class Fee: $60.00 Supply Fee: $10.00 Instructor: Kari Kaparos for more information Brain Builders Lego Master Builders Camp Build with master builder sets learning techniques from LEGO Master Builders. Participants will learn how to design on paper and then build their own creation. We will also have a instructional on LEGO Digital Designer, a lesson on early robotics and programming using the LEGO Ed WeDo sets and software, and an opportunity to check out the Mindstorm nxt sets while playing a round of mini robot golf. 4 ART CAMPS All camps held at the Franklin Recreation Complex 1120 Hillsboro Road Franklin TN To Register for these camps call Ext or Cindy Moore Ext Beginning Drawing Build up your child s self-confidence by giving him/her the gift of creating through drawing. Students will be instructed on basic drawing techniques such as shading and perspective by sketching animals, trees, fruit, flowers and still life. Days: Monday-Friday Dates: 6/9 6/13 Time: 1:00pm to 2:30pm Ages: 7yrs 12yrs Class Fee: $75.00 Supply Fee: $5.00 payable to instructor Instructor: Dawn Pharris Mini Monets and Picassos Inspire kids to reach beyond and create art that is unique to them. By doing so, kids feel empowered to be creative and expressive. Students will develop their drawing and paintings skills using direct observation and imagination. Line, color, shape, perspective and composition will all be explored. Mediums include mix media, tempera and acrylic paint. Painting projects will be different from past camps that have been offered. 5 TECHNOLOGY CAMPS YOUTH TECH INC All camps held at the Franklin Recreation Complex 1120 Hillsboro Road Franklin TN To Register for these camps call Ext or Cindy Moore Ext Youth Tech Inc. is an interactive computer camp that focuses on providing enrichment opportunities to students in the world of computers. With a caring environment at the core of camp values, Youth Tech strives to create a positive learning community that encourages creativity, fun and academic excellence. Students who enjoy going to various sites to see fun interactive animations will love this course. This class will utilizes Adobe's award winning animation software in Adobe Flash. 6 Video Game Design This course provides students with a fun interactive look at the world of video game design and development. Students enrolled in this camp will learn the basics of video game design and produce several different interactive video games to share with their friends and family. Dates: 6/23 6/26 OR Dates: 7/7 7/10 OR Dates: 7/14 7/17 Class Fee: $ Web Design This course is an in-depth look at the world of web design and development. Students enrolled in this session will learn how to build their own web site from start to finish using award winning suite of products. The learning for this camp does not end at the door students will have access to their web site with free hosting for one year. Dates: 7/7 7/10 Class Fee: $ Web Studio This class is a combination of our animation and web design classes. In this class students will learn the basics of animation and digital design. Students will not only create fun interactive animations but will learn the basics of web design and how to publish their animations to share with the world. This course is perfect for students with a big imagination. Dates: 7/14 7/17 Class Fee: $150.00

7 Movie Makers This hands-on, interactive course will instruct students on the world of digital video design and production. Students will film, direct and edit their own digital video creations. Students enrolled in this course amaze their peers with green screen and special effects work. Dates: 7/21 7/24 Class Fee: $ D Game Design-NEW SOFTWARE Video Game Design is a prerequisite for this course This class offers and interactive look at the world of 3D Game Design. This awesome 3D video game design course offers the chance for students to create and immerse themselves in a 3D world. If you are looking to design professional 3D games that both look and feel just like the ones you play at home, then you don't want to miss this course. Dates: 7/21 7/24 Class Fee: $ The Gaming Academy The gaming academy is an all day course for students who love games. During this course students will be immersed into the world of 2D and 3D game design. The gaming academy is a combination of our Video Game Design, Advanced Game Design and 3D Game Design courses. The course offers students a variety of hands on experience designing and building their very own games. Students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Dates: 7/28 7/31 Time: 9:00am to 4:00pm Class Fee: $295.00

8 SEWING CAMPS All Camps held at the Franklin Recreation Complex 1120 Hillsboro Road Franklin, Tn To Register for these camps call Ext or Cindy Moore Ext.2020 Students will make fun projects to learn the basics of sewing. Students are encouraged to bring in your own sewing machine to learn how to sew. (in good working order) OR you can reserve one of our sewing machines. Please call ASAP to reserve one. Limited number of sewing machines. All sewing camps are 5 days with a class fee of $75.00 and a Supply Fee of $ Ages 8yrs 14yrs (adults welcome) Instructor: Susan Hawkins. For more information you can Susan at Beginning Quilting This camp will teach the fundamentals of quilting; students will complete a lap quilt and will learn to accurately cut material, piece material, quilt, and bind. Dates: 6/2 6/6 Time: 1:30pm to 4:30pm American Girl Clothes and Accessories This camp will teach clothes sewing techniques while creating clothes and other items for an American Girl Doll or any other 18 inch doll. Students will complete at least 3 outfits during the week and will have the chance to design a dress unique to their own doll. Dates: 6/9 6/13 Time: 9:30am to 12:30pm Beginning Sewing This camp will introduce students to sewing and will teach students the basics of sewing. Several projects will be completed which will incorporate the skills being taught. This is a great camp for someone who has very little knowledge of how to sew. Dates: 6/16 6/20 Time: 9:30am to 12:30pm

9 Intermediate Sewing This camp will expand on basic sewing skills, and is great for someone who has completed the Beginning Sewing Course or has basic sewing skills. Students will complete a skirt, a zippered bag, and learn how to do advanced sewing techniques. Dates: 6/23 6/27 Time: 1:30pm to 4:30pm Design Your Own Fabric to Sew This camp will introduce students to several different fabric design techniques using a variety of household products. Students will begin with basic fabric and will end with a useable tote bag. Students will learn to change any fabric to something different and will learn how colors work together. Dates: 7/14 7/18 Time: 1:30pm to 4:30pm

10 MISS CINDY S PRE-SCHOOL ART CAMPS All Camps held at the Franklin Recreation Complex 1120 Hillsboro Road Franklin, Tn To Register for these camps call Ext or Cindy Moore Ext.2020 Come have creative fun with Miss Cindy Hester! Each camp will offer a different theme and a variety of art experiences with an assortment of mediums. We will sing songs, read stories while we make fun arts and crafts projects. All Miss Cindy s Preschool Art Camps are 2 days from 9:30am to 11:30am with a Class Fee of $24.00 and a Supply Fee of $6.00 payable to instructor. ***Children must be Potty Trained! Program for Children Ages 3-8 *** Bugs, Bugs, Bugs In this camp we will explore the world of Bugs! We will create bugs from books and pictures and our imaginations using a variety of crafting materials. Dates: 6/2 & 6/3 Just Paint Students will experiment with watercolors, tempera and acrylic paint on different papers and canvas. We will use a variety of tools to apply paint. Dates: 6/4 & 6/5 Under the Sea Students will explore the world under the sea with books and pictures and our imaginations. We will create one of kind sea creatures using a variety of materials. Dates: 6/9 & 6/10 Father s Day Gift Come create a personal gift for your Dad. There will be a variety of supplies to choose from to make a one of a kind gift. Please bring 3 pictures of the child, child and Father whatever your child would like to use to make the gift and card. Dates: 6/11 & 6/12 Famous Artist #1 In this camp our projects will be inspired by Laurel Burch s cats, Hundertwasser s spirals, Kandinsky s painted circles and Matisse s shapes. Dates: 6/18 & 6/19

11 Famous Artist #2 This camp will be inspired by Monet s Bridge, Seurat s dots, Calder s stabile and Orozco s embossed foil. Dates: 7/14 & 7/15 Open Studio Paint Theme Come explore and experiment with different kinds of paint, different brushes and materials to paint on. Each day there will be a variety of choices for your child to choose and create with. All projects will be one of a kind creations. Dates: 7/16 & 7/17 Sculpture This camp will provide a variety of materials to be used to explore the world of sculpture including wire, wood, paper, clay, gumdrops and toothpicks. Dates: 7/21 & 7/22 Famous Artist #3 In this camp our projects will be inspired by Chihuly s Plates of Color, O Keefe s Desert Scene, Picasso s self Portrait and Klee s Fish Magic. Dates: 7/23 & 7/24 Kid Friendly Tie Dye Students will need to bring in a washed t-shirt to Tie-Dye. (it can be an old shirt)instructor will provide other fabrics to create more tie dye designs. Dates: 7/30 & 7/31
