2 AWESOME SUMMER & SCHOOL VACATION ACTIVITY WEEKS 2013 OF WESTERN NEW ENGLAND Eureka! Discover - Create - Invent! Each day campers will be given a series of challenges they must overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from world famous inventors and the most important thing of all their minds. Because of the team-based approach to problem solving these challenges, this camp is never the same twice. You ll make your very own light saber, an awesome marshmallow shooter and much more! Secrrett Agentt Laborrattorry:: CSII Editti ion (NOTE: Each Secret Agent program is unique & children can take them in any order.) Sharpen your secret agent skills in this exciting hands-on look at crime scenes. Discover how chemistry and the science of forensics can come to the aid of a secret agent. Identify and collect evidence - from fingerprints to tracks to trash! Recreate the scene of a crime using clues and detailed observations. Campers will use science and awesome technology tools to connect the dots and help sniff out the suspects in this investigation into the science of sleuthing. Secret Agent Laboratory: James Bond Edition Develop your special agent and detective skills in this super hands-on week of fun! Uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Become a super sleuth and discover many of the science-based tricks that spies use. From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment, and discover the exciting technological tools of detection. Program Length Awesome Activity Weeks last 1 week for 3 hours per day. Full day programs are also available at select locations. Group size: Minimum 8 - Maximum 22. 3 NASA Academy fforr Space Explorrerrss Experience our new program co-designed by NASA and Mad Science! From our Earth s atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system, this hands-on program for children ages 7-12 sends them on a quest for exploration! Comets, planets, stars and more are all waiting to be discovered. Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in this mad planetary tour! Steer a laser beam through a laser maze, and bring the excitement home with a Lightning Launcher that lights up the sky! Learn about the four forces of flight and the challenges of space travel, build your very own rocket to take home and participate in an awesome rocket launch! The Summer of Innovation Program is NASA s response to, and the cornerstone of President Obama s Educate to Innovate campaign. This initiative is intended to improve participation, performance, and excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning. We are pleased that Mad Science will be a Summer of Innovation partner, said Dovie Lacey, Summer of Innovation Project Manager. By working with Mad Science, we are able to leverage their unique, hands-on science programming across the United States. Red Hot Robots!! (Ages 8-12 or entering Grades 3-6) Delve into the fascinating world of robotics and machines in this weeklong program. Children will construct their own robots while gaining a working knowledge of the science of circuits, wheels, gears, and sensors. They will build motorized robots, most likely one that can be set up to walk on 4 or 6 legs or to move like a monkey hand-over-hand down a rope. They ll also learn about simple machines and how they, like robots, are used to make life easier. Robots go home with campers on the last day of the program. All supplies included. Juniorr Scientti isstt Fun Lab!! (Ages 4-6) Have your child become a Mad Science Junior Scientist and come with us to discover how much fun science really is! In this Fun Lab children get a chance to explore many aspects of the world such as energy, motion, and water, as well as delving into the lives of animals. They ll even have a day as Mad Science Master Builders building and designing awesome structures. Students will make various things to take home that will help establish them as official junior scientists and encourage them to pursue their scientific curiosity in school and in the world around them. Rockin Rockets & Aerodynamics (Ages 7-12 or entering Grades 2-6) Children will step into the shoes of a rocket scientist and learn the fundamentals of flight, propulsion and rocket design. We ll have fun exploring astronomy and trying out various flight designs from hot air balloons to hovercrafts (and many more!). Launch Day will bring some real excitement to your budding astonaut! Kids will build rockets as well as discover the fundamental concepts involved in launching and recovering many different types of rockets.
