Campers will create and maintain a saltwater aquarium, learn about various marine environments, and explore different types of organisms. This program will have a special focus on Long Island marine ecosystems and the Great South Bay. Hands-on interactions and guest speakers diversify this program and inspire campers to delve into marine biology. An optional field trip specific to this session s subject will be offered. Advanced campers are challenged to interact with teachers and with each other to feel more comfortable speaking Mandarin outside the classroom. Grades 7-8: In addition to the Chinese language component, campers will also acquire Chinese cultural knowledge through a lot of fun activities, which include singing, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese dance, arts and crafts, drama, Chinese brush painting, cooking and Taichi. The campers will work with their teacher to create a story line to tie all of the pieces together and write a dialogue to appear in between the musical numbers. The group will also rehearse at least one song to perform together. Each day will include theatrical and musical warm-ups, exercises and games. The campers in the 5-8 grade session will create much of their own story and make the majority of the decisions, with guidance. They will work to have a script written and songs finalized by the end of the first week (as well as ideas for set, props and costumes), and utilize the second week for rehearsing and putting all pieces together. For the campers in the 1-4 grade session, our instructor will have story lines pre-planned, although there will be room for some song choice by the campers, as well as for them to make decisions within the narrative. Program Title: Cross Country Cost: $250 Grades: 5-8 Session(s): Session 3 Program Description: Skills developed include endurance, pacing, hydration and nutrition.
