Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children Come, learn about the Catholic Faith. You are invited to come and attend RCIA sessions to hear the teachings of the Catholic Faith. For those who choose to do so, this process leads to the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist in whatever combination your situation calls for. Come and explore the teachings of Pope Francis on the environment and begin a dialogue on how we are called to respond as Catholics. The course will begin on Wednesday, October 21 st, from PM and run for four Wednesdays in St. Michael Hall. All are welcome! Lectio Divina for Women: Two opportunities Morning Group: Every other Friday, 10 am - 11 am Evening Group: Every other Wednesday, 7pm to 8:30pm All women of the parish are welcome to join a Lectio Divina prayer group. Groups meet alternate weeks, evenings or mornings. All sessions are held in the Gathering Room of the Church. Our Next Meetings are: Wednesday, October 14 th, 7-8:30 pm Friday, October 23 th, 10-11am This is a wonderful way to prepare for the weekend readings and to share a prayer experience with other women of the parish. We are reading: The Way of Serenity: Finding Peace and Happiness in the Serenity Prayer authored by Father Jonathan Morris. We meet at St. Michael Hall from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and you are welcome to join in! At this session we will discuss Part II: Part2 Intro and Chapters 16 22, pages Diocese of Richmond Conferences The Catholic Women s Conference: Women on the Way will be held at the Richmond Convention Center on Saturday, November 21. Guest Speakers are Pat Gohn and Rachel Sherburne. Registration is 8-9 am and the conference concludes with a Vigil Mass for Sunday at 3:15 pm. The Catholic Men s Conference: Lions to Lambs will be held at the Richmond Convention Center on Saturday, January 16, Speakers are Mark Hart and Fr. Dan Beeman. 3 Page 3 October 11, 205 Youth Ministry Gathered By Grace October 4 & 18 (11:15am-1:15pm) in Saint Michael Hall During our sessions in October, we will explore the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity, which is the central mystery of our Christian faith and life. As children grow in understanding, parents, too, will be invited to deepen their own faith and strengthen the Catholic identity of their family. Virtus Training Upcoming VIRTUS TRAINING The Diocese mandates that all those who minister with children or youth must take this training prior to volunteering. All parents using the Cooperative Nursery at OLMC must be trained as well. OLMC School on Sat., Oct. 17 at 8:30am Saint Pius X (School) (Norfolk), Sat., Oct. 24 at 10:00am. Register for the 3 hour session at Virtusonline.org. Click on Registration to the left of the page and select Richmond, Va. (Diocese). You can also view other sessions at this link. Senior Youth Group The next Senior Youth Group meeting will be next Sunday, October 18, in St. Michael Hall. It will start after the 5pm Mass and wrap up at 8pm. All high schoolers are invited to attend! Any parents willing to provide dinner for this or any other SYG meeting should reach out to Patrick Walsh directly or sign up on the youth ministry website. Middle School Youth Rally For the sixth year, the Diocese of Richmond will be hosting a Middle School Youth Rally, which is intended to be a high -energy day that will integrate fun and community building with the richness of the Catholic faith. The event is open to all youth in 6 th -8 th grade. This year s Rally will include fun events, keynote addresses, Catholic Olympics, Lunch, and Mass! When: Sunday, October 25, 10:00am-5:00pm Where: Bishop Sullivan High School, Virginia Beach Cost: $35 to cover admission, lunch, a give-away item, and a t-shirt featuring the theme logo If you would like your child to attend, please notify Patrick Walsh (pwalsh@olmc.org) and register your child at evangelizerichmond.org/events/middle-school-rallyrichmond/. Children s Faith Formation Kingdom Kids at the 10:00am Mass What s offered for children at the 10:00am Mass? Kingdom Kids Nursery (1-3 yrs) meets for the duration of Mass, every Sunday. Kingdom Kids Pre-K/Kindergarten (4 & 5yrs olds) meets for the duration of the Mass. (Starts again in January) Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st 5 th grades) Children process out at Mass & return before the Eucharist. Kingdom Kids Worship meets the first, second and third Sundays most months. Registration is free and easy using KidCheck. KidCheck: Free Secure Check In System KidCheck is a secure check-in for the Nursery and other Children s Ministry offerings. Signing up for KidCheck is easy and free to parents. Sacraments First Sacrament Preparation: Sunday, October 11, 11:15am-1:45pm in St. Michael Hall Please bring travel size toiletries: toothpaste, individually packaged toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, lotion, mouthwash, deodorant and hand sanitizer. The children will assemble personal care kits at the workshop. Parent and child should attend together. Children must be registered before attending the session. The at home study materials were handed out at the Parent Orientation as well as the Sacrament Booklet with dates and home assignments. Contact Christa in the parish office for more information or to register. Baptism at OLMC are celebrated on scheduled times throughout the year. Whether you are parents-to-be, parents of an infant, or parents of a young child, we invite you to consider having your child baptized into the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Call Tina ext. 118 Prison/Jail Ministry Workshop If you signed up for Prison Ministry in the past and found it complicated and difficult to navigate, please consider joining us for this workshop. If you aren't sure what Prison Ministry is all about, come and see. This workshop hopes to connect us more deeply into prison/jail ministry and to help us navigate the system. We think about those who are most vulnerable and pray for those receiving food from us: Dear Lord, Too often we take our daily bread for granted while others go hungry. Let us not forget those all over the world who must struggle to feed themselves and their families. Lord, we pray that as a family, you strike in our hearts the desire to help the needy. Help us to recognize that hunger affects not nameless, faceless people, but other human beings: people with families, hopes, and dreams for a better future. Allow us to work hard to bring about a positive change in the lives of these people. Save the Date - Liturgical Ministry Workshop A workshop for all liturgical ministers will be held on Saturday, October 24 th, from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. The workshop is for all of the following ministry areas - Mass Coordinators, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Altar Servers, Cantors, and Arts and Environment. Those differences that can lead to repeated arguments over the same issues that never seem to go away. Come to our next Partners on the Journey session Overcoming Gridlock on Friday, October 30, at 7pm in St. Michael Hall for some useful tools for dealing with Perpetual Problems. Men s Group Evening Twice a year the men of the parish get together for some fellowship, fun and food. All Men of the Parish are invited to come out on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23 rd. We ll have a cookout, play some corn hole and enjoy each other s company during this event. We especially reach out to those who are new to the parish.
