Parents and Godparents must attend two pre-baptism classes held the 2nd and 4th Monday at 7:00pm in the Parish Life Center. RCIA Inquiry: A program for those interested in becoming Catholic. Every Thursday evening at 7pm-8:30pm in SEEC 22. Sacrament of Marriage: Couples should call the office for an appointment at least 6-9 months before the desired date. Rev 8/5/15
3 Our Mission: St. Edward Catholic School PK3 8th Grade St. Edward Catholic School teaches students to know, love and serve God, in partnership with parents and prepares them to be Christian examples for the Church community while fostering their spiritual, intellectual, physical and social development through Gospel values. Our Philosophy: St. Edward Catholic School is an elementary school in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, which provides opportunities for students to develop their potential in a Christian environment. The Ministries of St. Edward Catholic Community Stewardship through Adult Education Stewardship through Serving our Youth Stewardship through Marriage..3-4 Stewardship through Liturgy Stewardship through Parish Service St. Edward Catholic School...11 The St. Edward faculty and staff are expected to serve as Christian role models for students through their interaction with students and one another and are to teach students the skills necessary to become effective adult Christians. Students are taught the essentials of the Catholic faith and given opportunities to practice their faith and Christian values. 4 The Ministries of St. Edward Catholic Community Stewardship through Adult Education Adult Evangelization & Catechesis Team ~ This team consists of those parishioners who feel called to help lead, facilitate, provide hospitality and help in various adult faith programs. The team does not primarily consist of teachers, but those who can help in all ways (hospitality, facilitate programs, help choose programs, RCIA, Bible Study, etc.). Contact Deacon Nick Baptismal Preparation Team ~ This team teaches Baptism preparation in two classes, every 2nd & 4th Monday of each month. The first class is Theology of Baptism and the second class goes over family teaching and the Church s thoughts on how a child should be raised in a modern society within Catholic faith. Contact Deacon Nick Christ Renews His Parish ~ CRHP is a retreat format renewal process where parishioners have an opportunity to spend a weekend in prayer and reflection with other parishioners. The retreat is currently for women only and occurs once a year in July. Contact Sue luxgirl1513@gmail.com. Stewardship Committee ~ Promoting the spiritual principle of Good Stewardship is the main function of this committee. Members are involved in the annual Stewardship Sunday and Festival of Ministries campaigns as well as correspondence with the volunteers. Contact Charles charles.gustavus@ref-chem.com. Stitches of Peace ~ This ministry sews, crochets and knits quilts, afghans and gifts for charity (NAM & Meals on Wheels). We share friendships and fellowship as we learn and work together. Vocation Committee ~ The Vocation Committee promotes vocations within our community by praying, distributing literature about different religious orders, making presentations to students and helping individuals with referrals. Through the Spiritual Families Program, names of those in formation and seminarians are assigned to volunteers who pray for them by name each day from mid-august to June. Welcoming Committee ~ A ministry developed to help every new member feel that they are a part of our wonderful church community. Hearts Afire Team ~ Become a facilitator for our Hearts Afire parish based programs. Train to become a leader for 33 Days to Morning Glory (6 sessions) and Consoling the Hearts of Jesus (10 sessions) as we prepare our entire parish for Marian Consecration. Contact Donna or Suzi
5 Noah s Nursery ~ The nursery located in the Parish Life Center provides a safe, comfortable and loving environment for the youngest members of our Catholic Christian community during 9:30am Mass. Contact Cathy cathysheeren@yahoo.com. Offertory Counters ~ Help count the offertory collection one Sunday per month. Contact Kathy kathy.beecher@anadarko.com. Prison Ministry ~ This ministry meets with inmates at two Texas correctional facilities every Monday at 4:00pm. One Monday a month, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated and the other Mondays, the seven current volunteers teach the inmates. Contact Sue serversue@att.net. Respect Life Ministry ~ With complete confidence in God s providential mercy, the Respect Life Ministry supports programs in pastoral care, education and public policy & legislative change to bring about a conversion of heart and mind for a true appreciation of God s gift of life from conception to natural death. Some programs are the Gabriel Project, Project Rachel, Natural Family Planning, Mother and Baby Assistance, Courage, Helpers of God s Precious Infants and Write for Life. Contact Julia jeklawinski@yahoo.com. St. Edward Fall Festival ~ An annual event for the whole parish community that takes place the 2nd Sunday in October from 12:00pm-6:00pm. Volunteers are needed to help with games, food and rides as well as help plan the event. Contact Charles charles.gustavus@ref-chem.com. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) ~ This ministry needs sponsors, hospitality ministers and catechists to assist in the process of bringing adult inquirers into the Catholic Church. Contact Deacon Nick That Man is You Ministry Team ~ An interactive, multimedia men s program focused upon the development of authentic male leadership. Over the course of three years, That Man is You successively considers men in their relationship to God, their spouse and their children. The program consists of two 13- week semesters offered in fall and spring. Stewardship through Serving our Youth Jr. High Youth Ministry Team ~ Adults and teen volunteers are needed to work with youth in grades 6-8. 6 RCIC-The Rite of Christian Initiation of Children ~ This ministry needs sponsors, hospitality ministers and catechists to assist in the process of bringing un-baptized children between the ages of 8 and 14 into the Catholic Church. Religious Education (CCE) Volunteers ~ This ministry provides a host of opportunities for those wishing to share their faith with the children of our parish throughout the school year on Sunday and Wednesday nights. We need teachers, teachers aides, arts and crafts people, Vacation Bible School volunteers (one week during the summer) as well as those willing to lend their talents to various other categories. Contact Amy aauzenne@saintedward.org. Sacrament Preparation Teams ~ Help plan retreats for children who are preparing to receive First Holy Communion or youth who are preparing for Confirmation. Stewardship through Marriage Engaged Couple Sponsors ~ Provide engaged couples with the skills and tools required for a successful Christian marriage by providing quality guidance and coaching from trained Sponsor Couples. Contact Deacon Nick and Ann Gabriel Project ~ The Gabriel Project is an ecumenical movement of churches standing together to offer assistance to women facing crisis pregnancies. Contact Annette annette@atlassigns.com. Hospital Ministry ~ Brings the Sacrament of Eucharist to Catholic patients at Houston Northwest Hospital. Contact Mary marynmike35@sbcglobal.net. Hospitality Sunday Volunteers ~ This once a month ministry of volunteers prepares and serves coffee, donuts and refreshments to our fellow parishioners. Knights of Columbus ~ The Knights of Columbus is the world s largest Catholic men s fraternal service organization. We are committed to principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. Knights focus on protecting and enhancing their family life and making their community a better place while supporting their church. Contact Michael m.a.stolarski@att.net Martha s Moms ~ Martha s Moms is a ministry open to moms of all ages and experience. The group meets the 2nd & 4th Friday in the Nursery from September thru May and children are always welcome. In addition to a book study, the group also provides support and enrichment to our spiritual lives and personal relationships while maintaining the balance of day to day life. 7 Columbian Squires Circle ~ The Squires are the official youth organization for the Knights of Columbus. Building character and developing leadership skills are committed goals of the Squires. Activities are created for fun, while sharing their Catholic faith. Through many social, family, athletic, cultural and civil works, young men ages learn the importance of commitment and giving to their community and church. Compassionate Cooks ~ Volunteers and their culinary skills help in preparing and serving meals to those paying their respects following funeral services at St. Edward Church. Contact Mary Couples for Christ for Family and Life (CFC-FFL) ~ This is an ecclesial movement or a private lay association that aims to build the church of the home by bringing families to a living relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Disaster Planning Committee ~ This committee assists in preparing the parish and school to handle any and all types of natural and man-made disasters. Also, it develops procedures for fire, flood, lock-down, hurricane, emergency care, chemical spill and short term and extended power outages. If you have experience in writing procedures, civil engineering, emergency care, state and city codes for handling emergencies, we can use your help. We have quarterly meetings limited to one hour. All projects can be accomplished from home or work. Contact Deacon Nick Family Life Minsitry ~ Family Life Ministry is a series of activities that involve the whole family and the spiritual life of a family; a time for a family to pray together and to come share with other families of the parish community. Family activities include movie nights and family picnics. We have future plans for familycentered liturgical season celebrations. We are always looking for members to help plan future events. Wedding Rehearsal Coordinator ~ This ministry involves conducting wedding rehearsals in an orderly and precise manner following the guidelines of St. Edward Catholic Community. Stewardship through Liturgy Altar Server ~ This ministry is ideal for the youth of the parish who wish to participate in the celebration of the Mass in a special way. Altar Society ~ Inspired by the Blessed Mother, we promote love and respect for the House of the Lord. We care for the altar, sacristies, chapel and linens in the spirit of fellowship. 8 Children s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) ~ This celebration is for 4-6 year olds at 9:30am Mass. Volunteers are needed to assist Worship Leaders. Contact Mary mwilmot@saintedward.org. Children s Choir ~ The children s choir provides the young members of our parish in grades 3-8 an opportunity to use their singing talents. The choir encourages the development of young singers talents, promotes the idea of service and strives to bring children closer to a union with God through music. Contact Linda erlindahg@aol.com or Linda lj4health@att.net. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) ~ EMHC are called to serve God s people in a very special way. We help to awaken in each communicant the fullest meaning of the Eucharistic in ministering to the assembly at Mass. Contact Jamie jamie.burns@earthlink.net. Gift Bearer ~ This is a great ministry that includes the entire family in the celebration of Mass. At least three people are needed at each Mass to bring the gifts of bread, wine, and offering to the priest at the altar. If interested, there are monthly signup sheets in the Ushers Room. Signup for any Mass and as often as you would like. Greeter/Usher ~ Men and women 15 years of age and older personally welcome our worshipers, help in seating, and take up the collection. Contact the parish Lector ~ Lectors proclaim the Word of God each week in liturgy. Our mission is to make the Word of God come alive in the hearts and minds of our worshipers. Blue Army Group ~ The World Apostolate of Fatima Our Lady s Blue Army is a public international association of Catholic faithful and recognized by Rome. Members of St. Edward Blue Army meet Wed. evenings at 6pm in the Chapel and endeavor to grow in a spirit of reparation by responding to Our Lady s request for prayer through the Rosary, penance and sacrifice to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
