1 Christ of Mercy The Jubilee Year of Mercy, designated by His Holiness Pope Francis, invites us to be charitable, helping those close to us fulfil their needs, both spiritual and physical, according to the words, Be merciful as your Father is merciful. This year we will concentrate our thoughts on Cristo de la Misericordia (Christ the Merciful), 1665, one of the oldest and most traditional of the statues that are part of the solemn street processions during Easter Week in Adeje. Given the style and technique the work is attributed to the La Gomeran artist Francisco Alonso de la Raya. The presence of this Christi s linked to the existence of the Hermandad de la Misericordia (Brotherhood of Mercy) dedicated in particular to the burial of the departed. The statue plays a key role in three important celebrations: Easter Week (Wednesday and Good Friday), the Finding of the Holy Cross (May 3 rd ) and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (September 14 th ). Christ the Merciful offers up his love for God and his fellow beings, the greatest mercy of all.
