2 Taproot The Family Mission Team invites you to join us on December 1 at 6 p.m. for a night of laughter as we kick off the Christmas season with some fun improv as we seek to keep Jesus as the center of our celebrations. The funds raised from this event will go to help build a home for a family in need, feed children who are hungry, and reach out with the love of the Gospel through VBS and ministries in Mexico. The Family Mission Team thanks you in advance for your support. Tickets: $10 Adult $5 Child 4-18 Childcare $2/child 3 and under. Simple consessions will be available before and after the show. For more inforamtion please contact Pastor Bret. Volleyball Highline Christian Church has a Volleyball Team and we are in need of one more player for our winter season. If you are interested in being on the team and can commit to Tuesday nights, January 7 - March 25, please contact Tammie Lindblom by December 6. There is a participant fee. Tree Stand Sharing God s love in Burien and around the world one person and one tree at a time. Thank you for supporting missions locally and abroad through the purchase of your Christmas trees and wreaths. The majority of the funds raised at the tree stand go directly to the building projects, feeding programs, VBS, and other ministries the family mission team will take part in while in Mexico. Are you ready to join the mission? One of the truths we are emphasizing on the Family Mission Team is that we are on mission now. God calls us to Himself and then sends us as His ambassadors to a world in need of His love. The Family Mission Team has sought to staff the stand to the best of our ability, but we need the help of the church body to staff it well. If you are able to help staff the stand for a shift or two, please contact Teresa Barnes at teresa@highlinechristian.org or Pastor Bret at bret@highlinechristian.org. Bread of Life Needs List Dairy/Juice/Water Paper plates, cups, bowls/plastic glasses, sporks and picnic packs Hats, gloves, scarves Ladies clothing, especially gently used pants Socks and underwear for men and women Towels, toiletries, shaving kits Twin size warm blankets, bed sheets Collection tubs for Bread of Life Mission (downtown Seattle) and Transform Burien (both clothing and food bank items) may be found in the Family Mailbox Room of the South Building. 2

3 Operation Christmas Child Thank you, Highline, for your generosity in filling, returning and/or paying for Operation Christmas Child boxes! As a congregation, we sent 262 boxes! (This is an increase from the 205 boxes we sent last year!) You are part of a much larger ministry as over 100 million children have received a shoebox gift since the project began in The entire week following Thanksgiving, volunteers from around the country will be busy at the Distribution Centers inspecting boxes, adding a Bible Storybook in the appropriate language of the recipient, and preparing the boxes to be shipped. At this point, they know which box is going to which country. Please be in prayer for the safety of the boxes as a variety of transportation methods are used, efficient border crossings, timely arrival of the boxes by Christmas, and that just the right child receives just the right box to meet his/her needs! Samaritan's Purse has also outlined ways that you can pray daily for this project in the weeks and months ahead: Sunday: Thank God for blessing Operation Christmas Child and pray that millions more children will experience the love of Jesus Christ tthrough these simple gifts. Monday: Ask God to bless the labors of local volunteers who serve year-round to collect, process, transport, and deliver shoebox gifts around the world. Tuesday: Pray that the Lord will use Operation Christmas Child to bring joy to boys and girls in developing countries who face difficult circumstances such as poverty, disease, famine, and war. Wednesday: Pray that each child who receives a shoebox gift will have the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thursday: Pray that every girl and boy who receives a shoebox will experience God's unconditional love and provision through the gifts they receive. Friday: Pray for the children who enroll in The Greatest Journey follow-up discipleship program, that they will come to faith in Jesus and share the Good News with their friends and family. Saturday: Pray for the safety of Operation Christmas Child volunteers who are serving in areas of the world where people may be hostile to Christians. Thank you, again, for donating and praying! 4 What is the HUB and why should I care about it? H.U.B. stands for Highline Unity Builder. What do I need to do now? The HUB is becoming an integral part of our church life and community. In a simple view, it is just computer software, but it is really much more, and our purpose for it is to enable much more connectedness among our body and create a better church community. Highline is planning to use this software in quite a few ways. We are expecting that every member who wants to be in the know and well connected to the Highline church community will benefit from the HUB. The HUB is the core part of a new church management system at Highline. It is a web-based, church management software/ database system from a company called Church Community Builder, who has been developing and refining their software and helping churches manage the functions of their church better since If you have time and interest now, there are several ways you can find out now how to use it, you can get your part of it setup, and you can even start receiving some of the benefits! In January, we will have the big kick-off with many more educational opportunities. To learn how to use it now: Go to and click the button. Or, log into the HUB & click a link to a Help file at the bottom of the Home screen. Or, pick up a paper copy of HUB Help for Beginning Users at the Atrium table. Or, ask questions at the Atrium table (someone will be there most Saturday evenings & Sunday mornings in December). 4

5 Early Childhood News. Christmas is coming in one short month! This time of year seems to get so busy! Here are some ideas of ways your family can slow down and focus on Christ together: Take a walk in your neighborhood to look at the lights. Talk about how Jesus is the light. Pray for your friends as you begin to receive Christmas cards in the mail Attend the Outdoor Living Nativity at church Look at a candy cane. When it is upside down, it is the letter J for Jesus Make a present for a family in need Read Nativity books as a family and read the Bible together Look at the stars and talk about how people followed the star to find Jesus. The children are learning about Jesus in their Sunday School classes. Jesus is a part of the Big God Story. The Big God Story starts in Genesis with creation then goes through the Bible, and we are all a part of it. Jesus is our reason to celebrate! He is the best gift of all!
