3 SMS: The Power and Effectiveness of Text Messaging Text messages are the most read form of communication with 99.9% of all text messages being read. 97.5% of all text messages are read within 5 seconds As I am sure you too recognise that feeling of curiosity and desire to know who that text message is from when you hear that beep, beep. In 2012 in the UK alone over 150 billion text messages were sent, that is more than 400 million texts per day. On average mobile users are sending 50 text messages a week. The level of voice calls in in decline and more people are using text messaging. The average mobile user will have their phone with them for 16 hours per day. Campaign Team Intxt offers you access to our dedicated Campaign Team. This reduces the burden on your team and is a very cost effective way to run any size of campaign. The campaign management includes: Your own dedicated Campaign Manager In order to provide the best service and form a very close relationship with our customers, we assign every customer their own Campaign Manager. Your Campaign Manager oversees and coordinates all activity on your account and by working closely with you and your team. Creation of your Intxt account You don t need to worry about the account set-up; we will take care of all of this for you. We will set-up your own Intxt account with secure and personalised login details. You ll benefit from expertise from the start, in creating your campaign strategy, through to the end, with your actual campaign message. Mobile data upload into your Intxt account All you have to do is send us your data; we will take care of the rest. Intxt will automatically cleanse the data for duplicates or errors during the secure upload process. All data can be used to personalise your SMS messages. Full execution of your SMS campaign We will execute, manage and report on your personalised and targeted SMS campaign for you. Real-time contact updates, creating a database of opted-in contacts for future campaigns Your Intxt account is updated in real-time, which means that opted-out contacts, delivery numbers and responses are available immediately. Where resources are short, Intxt can provide a full data cleansing service. o Data verification For verifying address details o Data suppression We can help you to suppress contacts that have moved house, ceased or requested not to receive communications o Data de-duping Removal of duplicate records Provision of prospect data Sourcing accurate marketing data is key to delivering effective marketing campaigns. We can help you to source data based on your target audience demographics. There are hundreds of variables you can choose from, including: o Demographics o Income and expenditure o Lifestyle and interests o Vehicle ownership Data appends Intxt can add value through enhancing your data. We can append your data at various levels to provide added insight as an aid to the targeting of your SMS campaigns. o Appending mobile numbers, landlines, and address detail HLR checking In short terms, HLR (home location register) is a cleaning programme, which identifies live, active, in use numbers, and shows the numbers that are not. We recommend SMS/mobile records are HLR d to ensure that you are only reaching out to live, active mobile phones. Page 7
8 How it works Personalisation All texts can be personalised. We import upto 12 fields from your data to enhance the personalisation of the message so that it feels like you are addressing them individually, even though you are texting large groups of people at the same time. URLs URLs can also be included in the content of a text message with ease. The best way to include a URL with in a text message is to use an abridged version. To abridge a URL, we simply reduce the standard URL so that a minimum amount characters is used. By shortening the URL none of its embedded content is lost at all. Master Access Intxt allows designated Master Accounts to have secure access and control over specified Subordinate Accounts. This is delivered through a hierarchical structure, allowing for example Head Office to access all accounts, Regional Managers to access their Regional accounts, Area Managers to access their Area accounts, with the individual Branches only able to access their Branch accounts. The levels of hierarchy are completely flexible and are user defined allowing you to structure the access to align directly with your own business organisation structure. Through the Master Account access functionality, it allows: Quick access to all subordinate accounts assigned to them Transferring of text credit balances between the subordinate accounts (assuming they have the sufficient overall balance) Retrieval and extraction of data from the subordinate accounts back to the designated master address Using the Master Account to send text messages to their designated subordinate accounts /SMS alert of incoming replies We understand you re busy and can t always be on hand to look out for incoming customer replies. Intxt can send a SMS and/or to a specified mobile/ address alerting you of replies to specific campaigns. You can receive a summary, for example You have received 52 responses to your campaign and a full extract of these replies can also be sent to an address. This gives the flexibility to send alerts at a summary level to a Manager and the detailed replies data to the team who will actually deal with them. Depending on your specific business requirements and personal preferences you can set when you receive the alerts through a calendar (scheduler). Meaning you can receive regular updates throughout the day or just one update say, first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Page 8
9 Sender Display Options You have the option to either send a text campaign that requires a response or send one that does not require a response. Campaigns that do not require a response/reply text are known as Fire & Forget messages. Campaigns that require a response/reply: Your customers can reply just like they would if they were texting back to a good friend and for the same cost to them. No short codes inboxes or complicated processes to follow. For this type of campaign the Sender Display will show that the text is from a number ( for example). Intxt can match the answers to the original message sent, even when you have sent more than one message to the same person. You won't find this functionality with any other business SMS service. Fire & Forget: Campaigns that do not require a response/reply For this type of campaign Intxt gives you the ability to overtype the sender number with a name. This allows for greater personalisation and instant recognition of the sender of the SMS. Auto Replies Let customers know you ve received their reply by automatically sending an Auto-Reply message. On receiving a particular reply from a customer, Intxt can send a further acknowledgement message automatically. Page 9
10 Data Security Intxt treats the security of our customer s data as an absolute priority. In addition the reliability of our service is ensured through the secure connection of our SMS Gateway into the main mobile network SMS centres (SMSC). As such Intxt: Never claims ownership of the Content, including customer names and mobile numbers you submit or make available for inclusion through the intxt application or service. Will return in electronic format at the request of our clients all their customers data including names and mobile numbers and then delete them from our system if and when requested. Never resells your stored data. Your personal details, your uploaded contact information, your captured mobile numbers will all be kept safe on our secure servers. Ensures systems access is always logged and tracked for auditing purposes Provides fully documented change control procedures Uses best practices in the random generation of initial passwords Ensures all passwords, contact and message data is encrypted during transmission (256bit SSL). Has dedicated firewall services to help block unauthorized system access. Uses additional inbuilt protocols to prevent message spoofing (unauthorised injection into our SMS message stream). Has all online financial transactions securely handled via SagePay. Has PCI/DSS checked by Trustwave. Offers a custom installation, locked to a customer s specified IP addresses (configured within Apache Web Services). Has real time data replication to backup servers. 11 Quick Response (QR) Codes What are QR codes and how do they work? A Quick Response (QR) code looks like this: QR (Quick Response) codes are becoming much more prevalent in the world. They are an effective marketing tool and chances are you ve already seen a couple before you even got into work today. QR Codes is the trademarked name for a barcode that is used to record information related to a specific item. Pretty much like a product barcode tells you the price of something; a QR code will give you the details. Of course, something this cool has to have been invented by the Japanese. Originally used in the motor industry as a way to track vehicles being constructed in 1994, it is an optical machine readable code that comprises of black dots arranged in specific pattern. An image sensor (such as a camera) will detect the 2-dimensional digital image by correctly configuring the boxes in the corners. The smaller dots are then changed to a binary configuration and checked with the software to ensure it s the right information. Once the code demonstrated its unique benefit; that the information can be brought up quickly (hence the name!), it was only a matter of time before someone had the bright idea to implement it in other industries; namely, marketing. Benefits As almost all modern mobile phones have a camera, it was only common sense that QR codes made the transition to advertising. The codes allow quick access to information about a product or service. This made it perfect for consumer markets who want things in the here and now. The flexibility is one of the QR code s great advantages. Almost anything can be designed to work with them. From banking to web browsing, QR codes look set the change the way we access information and communicate. QR codes designed to collect mobile telephone numbers QR codes can be customised to include your logos, videos or other images as required and URLs can also be embedded to direct people to a web page. They can also be included on all existing advertising you currently do from television, to journals, magazines and newspapers etc.. However, one of the key operational uses for using a QR Code is to capture the person s mobile number to be used in future marketing campaigns. Page 11
