Page 1 of 6 Quick Start Enterprise Administrators Welcome to the Quick Start Guide (QSG) for Enterprise Account Customers. The aim and purpose of this guide is to provide a quick overview of what you need to do to begin using the Spam Arrest service followed by Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for both Business Users and the Administrator of the Enterprise Account. Before we get started, let s talk about the differences between a Consumer and Enterprise Account. Consumer accounts are intended for single users with integrated billing and statistics available to the end-customer. Enterprise accounts are designed for many users of a given organization. Enterprise accounts include separate administrative functionality and billing that is not available to other, organizational users of Spam Arrest. Administration Account Overview Once you ve established an Enterprise Account, Spam Arrest will assign a user name and password specific and unique to your Enterprise Account. This is the Administrator Account. It allows you to oversee your Enterprise Account information. With your Administrator Account, you can log into the website and add or remove users, add or remove domains you would like filtered by Spam Arrest, and more. Things you should know before you begin: 1. You will need to know the current and POP servers for your domains. The should be a server that accepts Internet mail for your domains. This is likely the current MX record for your domain. The POP server is used for authentication purposes. *MX (a/k/a/ Mail Exchanger) Records are an entry in a domain name database that identifies the mail server responsible for handling the for that particular domain name. 3. You will also need to enter valid credit card information to be utilized for monthly billing. Once you have signed up to the Enterprise Program, have your ISP, Domain Host or Network Administrator update the MX records for your domain to match Spam Arrest s MX records as seen below. This will allow your to be routed to our Spam Arrest servers for processing, where we then forward the on to you. Example of MX Record Entry Form MX (Mail Exchanger)? Host Goes To Pref TTL Del m2.spamarrest.com r1.spamarrest.com Audit Audit 2. You will need to change the MX records* for the domains you wish Spam Arrest to protect.
Page 2 of 6 Getting Started When you login to your Spam Arrest Administrator Account, you will find four (4) tabs at the top of the webpage. These tabs are: Domains, Users, Options and Help. Domains tab. In the Domains page, you can add and remove domains which you are using Spam Arrest to filter. For Enterprise Account Customers, all incoming messages are first routed to Spam Arrest Data Center servers. Messages to unprotected accounts remain unprocessed and are immediately forwarded to your organization s server. Messages addressed to protected accounts are processed through the Spam Arrest filters, and only those messages from verified senders are then forwarded to your server. When you add a domain to be protected, you will be asked to enter certain information: 1. server for the domain. This is the mail server that holds the mailboxes for your domain. If you have an Exchange server, you will enter the name of the Exchange server here. 2. POP server for the domain. If desired, Spam Arrest can verify user passwords against your own mail server via POP. If you wish to use this, feature you will need to enter a POP server here and check the box to enable POP Authentication for this domain. 3. Challenge . If desired, you can set a custom challenge that will be sent to any new senders who your recipients. Domains tab 4. Unknown Recipients. If you protect all of your users with Spam Arrest, you can have Spam Arrest discard all s sent to addresses that are not listed with Spam Arrest. This can greatly reduce the bandwidth usage and load on your mail server by ensuring that only wanted s are handled by your server. Users Tab. The Users tab lists all of your account s users (filtered addresses) and aliases (aliases are bulleted, for differentiation). When you select one of your current users in your account, you can control the aliases, edit user account information and view Spam Arrest statistics for that specific user account. Options Tab. The Options Tab contains contact information for your Administrator Account, as well as Billing information. Users tab Options tab Help tab Help Tab. The Help Tab is the standard Help tab for all accounts. Enterprise Support Options. For pre-sales and account activation inquiries, please isp@spamarrest.com for information regarding the Spam Arrest Enterprise Solution.
Page 3 of 6 Quick Start Enterprise Subscribers Welcome to Spam Arrest, your starting point for stopping spam. Unlike other anti-spam solutions, Spam Arrest quickly and easily blocks spam before it ever gets to your inbox no matter how the spam is disguised or where it comes from. What Is Spam Arrest? Spam Arrest uses Challenge/Response technology to keep the spam out. s from unknown senders will receive an auto-reply message asking them to verify themselves. When the sender clicks the link in the , they are taken to a webpage where they are challenged to type in a word that is hidden within a graphic or a sound file (for visually-impaired users). When the sender successfully completes the response, their is forwarded to your inbox, and they are then added to your authorized sender list. The challenge/ response process is easy for people, but impossible for automated systems (i.e. spambots), to complete. How Spam Arrest Works 1. Incoming is routed to Spam Arrest via MX records. 2. Spam Arrest filters this based on the Challenge-Response verification process. 3. Only approved messages reach your Inbox. 4. Spam is stored in an Unverified Folder for seven (7) days until it is automatically deleted. 5. Subscribers can access via a browser by logging into the Spam Arrest website and manually approving senders from whom they wish to receive . After your Spam Arrest account is created, you will receive a confirmation page that contains login, password details, and other relevant information you will need to update before Spam Arrest can begin protecting your . Logging In to Spam Arrest 1. In any Web browser, go to 2. To log in as your administrator account, use the user name and password that you chose when you created your Enterprise account 3. To log in as an individual user, use the user s full address as their user name and then the user s password for the password field. If you use POP authentication, the password will be whatever password that user has on the POP server you specified. If you chose not to use POP authentication, the password will be the password that you assigned to the user when you created the account under the Users tab. If you forget your password, you will be asked to enter your Spam Arrest login or address you use with Spam Arrest. Thereafter, you will be prompted to enter the answer to your secret question. Customize Spam Arrest to suit your personal preferences. Administrative changes are easy to do. You can change many of your account settings in the Options page. Day-to-Day use of Spam Arrest Subscribers to Spam Arrest find that Spam Arrest does its job with a minimum of time and management on their part. People sending you respond to the Spam Arrest challenge-response messages, enabling themselves to send you , while larger automated message senders (such as Amazon. com sending you receipts for online orders) can be authorized in advance. Just view your Inbox using the web site or your Program, and let Spam Arrest do the rest. Customer Support Options We provide free 24x7 unlimited support via (isp@spamarrest.com) and through our contact form ( In addition, Spam Arrest provides phone support during business hours at (206) What Should I Do Next? Login to Spam Arrest and familiarize yourself with these four tabbed sections of the website: Mail, Senders, Options, Help. Tips for Using Spam Arrest Periodically check your Unverified folder. The Unverified Folder provides the Spam Arrest user a place to review that hasn t yet been authorized by either the sender or the Spam Arrest user e.g. Spam or an automated from Amazon.com. Unverified seven (7) days or older is automatically purged from your Unverified Folder, so users don t need to personally delete unverified unless they choose to do so. Import your address book. While Spam Arrest will automatically build your list of senders as you receive new , if you want to pre-populate your approved or blocked senders list, you can do so by importing a list in Comma-Separated-Value (CSV) file format.
Page 5 of 6 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) By Enterprise Administrators How does the Enterprise Solution work? With the Enterprise product, all incoming messages are first routed to Spam Arrest via MX records. Messages to unprotected accounts are immediately forwarded to your organization s server. Messages addressed to protected accounts are processed through the Spam Arrest filters, and only those messages from verified senders are forwarded to your server. What is an MX (Mail Exchanger) Record? An MX record is a type of resource record in the Domain Name System (DNS) specifying how Internet should be routed using the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (). Each MX record contains a priority and a host name, so that the collection of MX records for a given domain name point to the servers that should receive for that domain. How does Spam Arrest know where to relay my ? When you sign up for the Enterprise solution, you provide your domain(s) POP and server information. We relay back to the server that you provide without looking up host information on the Internet. Will my users know about Spam Arrest? Most business that use the Enterprise Solution inform their users of Spam Arrest, and how Spam Arrest filters spam (as outlined here): What do I need to tell my users? You might suggest to your users that they read the Spam Arrest FAQ and Support Page: Not all of this information will apply to your users, but it will be helpful for them to familiarize themselves with the overview of how Spam Arrest works, nonetheless. How do I add or remove users from my accounts(s)? When you sign-up, you create an Administrator Account. You may add or remove users in this account. Can I filter more than one domain? Yes. You can filter as many domains as you like. You can add/remove domains and specify their POP and server names in your Administrator Account. What is the Enterprise Solution Billing Schedule? The Enterprise Solution s Billing Period is the 16th of the month through the 15th of the following month. Billing occurs on the 15th for the preceding billing period. Billing is calculated based upon your account s average number of users per billing cycle. What is my Administrator Account, and how does it work? The Administrator Account is how you oversee your Enterprise Account information. With your Administrator Account, you can log into the website, add or remove users, and add or remove domains you would like filtered by Spam Arrest. Can I authorize or block for all my users? Not at this time, though there are future plans to implement global controls in the Administrator Account. We will keep all our Enterprise Users aware of additional functionality as it is implemented. Will my users have to use the Spam Arrest website? Your users can use Spam Arrest transparently (indirectly) if they wish, though they may also directly visit the website to check Unverified Mail folders and to personally manage their list of senders. What about users in domains that aren t signed up for Spam Arrest? accounts that you choose to keep unfiltered will simply have their relayed directly to the server you specify. The user will download the as usual. Will internal users need to authorize one another? This depends upon your own server s configuration. If your incoming and outgoing servers are the same, then, normally, your users would not have to authorize one another since the remains internal.
Page 6 of 6 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) By Enterprise Subscribers What are Approved Senders? Approved Senders are addresses personally authorized or which have successfully verified themselves via Spam Arrest s Challenge-Response process. How does Spam Arrest filter out spam? Spam Arrest blocks spam based on the Sender Address (the address of the person sending the ). There are three (3) types of Sender Addresses: Authorized, Unauthorized and Blocked. 1. Authorized. When an arrives from an Unauthorized (unknown) sender, an automated verification is sent from Spam Arrest asking the sender to verify themselves by clicking on an included link. This link will direct the sender to a webpage which states that Spam Arrest is being used to block unwanted s, and instructs the sender to type in a short verification word clearly displayed on the page. Once a sender successfully completes this quick and easy process, all future s from that sending address are Authorized and will be met with no further verification requests from Spam Arrest. 2. Unauthorized. Unverified s remain stored on the Spam Arrest system for 7 days, after which they are automatically deleted. Subscribers may choose to review these unverified messages at any time should they believe a sender is not authorizing themselves. Subscribers may also pre-authorize senders and mailing lists by entering their addresses individually or by uploading their address book. 3. Blocked. Subscribers also have the choice to Block senders. from Blocked senders is deleted at the Spam Arrest server level, so you never have to be bothered with knowing it was even there. Will Spam Arrest delay my ? No. Spam Arrest will not delay delivery. In fact, subscribers report that they save time due to receiving from only verified users. How do I change my Spam Arrest password? If you DO NOT use POP authentication, your password can be updated by logging into your individual account and going to the Personal link under the Options page. If you use POP Authentication, your password is controlled by the server you specified as the POP server for your domain. Contact your system administrator to update this password. Does Spam Arrest offer Anti Virus? Yes. Spam Arrest provides accurate, cutting-edge, up-to-date Anti-Virus technology protection as part of its service. How can I authorize someone myself? The Unverified Mail Folder contains your Unverified s from the last seven (7) days. Subscribers may view and authorize or delete any in the Unverified Mail Folder. You can also manually authorize addresses by logging into your account and going to the Authorize link on the Senders page. Can I authorize a whole domain? Yes, you can authorize domains by going to the Domains link on the Senders page. Does Spam Arrest work with automated s? Yes. Subscribers can approve or block automated senders in your Unverified Mail folder. If you wish receive from an automated address (such as orders@amazon.com), you can approve the automated address once and all future s from that address will be passed through to your inbox. Can I still myself? Yes. Be advised sent to yourself is sent to Unverified by default because spammers frequently use your address as the source address. You can override this function by going to the Filtering link on the Options page.
