Objectives Overview of Standards Fiber Focus Recent events and activities of TIA TR-42 Subcommittees Most recent meetings held in early February 2012 Review the recent events and activities of some LAN application subcommittees

Standards Overview What is the process for developing a standard? Projects are proposed and must be approved Contributions are reviewed Draft documents are created then balloted to remove or resolve contentious issues With consensus, the document is released for publication Can take a few months or many years

Standards Overview What is the process for revising a standard? Maximum 5-year lifespan for standards Must be revised, re-affirmed or withdrawn Addenda may be added to keep the document growing with advances in technology Addenda may then be incorporated into the new revision of the standard.

Ballot Process New Project Create Draft Committee Ballot Ballot Comment Resolution Industry Ballot Process Ballot Comment Resolution Industry Ballot Reballot or Industry? 11 TR-42.1 Subcommittee on Generic Cabling and Commercial Building Cabling

TR42.1 Summary 568-C.0 Generic Structured Cabling Addendum 1 - Updated References for Balanced Twisted-Pair (PUBLISHED) Addendum 2 General Updates (Publication was approved after 2 nd default ballot comments were resolved) 568-D series discussion underway

TR42.1 Summary TIA-942-A Data Centers default ballot comments resolved (Industry Ballot) Needs to go to a 2 nd default ballot Data Center Fabric Task Group reviewed a first draft of TIA-942-A-1 Addendum describes a variety of data center fabric architectures described in industry white papers and switch manufacturers

TR42.1 Summary Large Building Task Group renamed to Places of Assembly Task Group with work to continue Focus on Places of Assembly will be as follows: A-1 fixed seating typically performing arts, theatres etc, A-2 food/drink consumption restaurants A-3 places of assembly/recreation/amusement/worship or other assembly (e.g. passenger terminals) A-4 sports/spectator (indoor) A-5 outdoor venues Educational facilities task group continuing development of a first draft document

TR-42.3 Subcommittee on Telecommunication Pathways & Spaces

TR42.3 Summary TIA-569-C: Commercial Building Standard for Telecommunications Pathways and Spaces Document is scheduled to be published during Q1, 2012 TIA-569-C-1 Addendum Project Project request approved to begin work on reviewing ASHRAE new environmental limits as described in the new ASHRAE whitepaper Document will go out as committee ballot Q2, 2012

TR-42.7 Subcommittee on Copper Cabling Components

TR-42.7 Summary TIA-1183 Test Methods and Fixtures to 1000 MHz was approved for publication Next Gen (connector and cable) task groups were combined to investigate specific performance metrics Two draft proposals were discussed for TIA-568-C.2-1 (next Generation Cabling) No further discussion about adding ISO/IEC Class F (Category 7) cabling to TIA-568-C.2

TR42.7 Summary Was agreed to form a new joint task group with TR-42.9 to create a response to the end-to-end link qualification Potential problems with current end-to-end link at plug and jack/equipment connection Link cabling survey was inconclusive and results varied significantly TG agreed survey became too burdensome to achieve any meaningful results Sent survey initiative back to TR-42.7 and allow it to focus on copper media

TR-42.9 Subcommittee on Industrial Premises Cabling

TR-42.9 Summary TIA-1005-A: Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Industrial Premises Document was approved for publication (Projected Q2, 2012)
