1 FACTS ABOUT THE SAFESCAN TARGET SCANNER 1. THE TARGET SCANNER SENSITIVITY ADVANTAGE - The Target Scanner has a passive nn-radiating DC magnetic field which greatly increases sensitivity-detectability. (This is Patent-prtected intellectual prperty-technlgy c-invented by Mednvus and Quantum Magnetics/GE Security). - The use f this passive DC magnetic field greatly increases (by a factr f times) the detectability f a ferrmagnetic threat bject especially a nn-premagnetized ferrmagneticallyhard threat. 2. The passive DC magnetic field f the Target Scanner DOES NOT RADIATE r emit RF. - Other examples f a passive DC nn-radiating field emitting n RF are a refrigeratr magnet, and the small magnet given ut in meetings by Junk Architects. - This field will NOT affect in any way MRI quality, nr will it erase credit cards r affect cell phnes. It decreases rapidly frm 100 G. at ne inch t less than ne G at ne ft. Fr reference, a typical pacemaker magnet is apprx. 160 G. at ne inch, and the hand-held permanent magnets ( MRI Test Magnet ) used by sme MRI centers have a field even as high as 3,000 G (0.3 Tesla). - The ACR Best-Practices mandate is t use physical screening, including ferrmagnetic detectin, AFTER yu have medically cleared the patient that it is safe fr that patient t enter the magnet rm/zne IV -- where the patient will be subject t fields f 15,000 30,000 ( T). After yu have cleared the patient t enter the huge field f the MRI, this Patent-prtected SAFESCAN technlgy means increased safety fr yur patient. 2 Questin: Can the TARGET SCANNER be used fr the head area? Such as alarming n Bbby Pins? Answer: YES -The nly cautin here is nt t rub the TARGET SCANNER directly ver the eye. The reasn fr this is that the small field f the TS (many times less than the 'MRI Test Magnet'), culd, at least ptentially, mve a ferrmagnetic bject if deep within the eye. We have dne experiments with human eye bank eyes demnstrating that this is extremely unlikely, because the Target Scanner's field is s small relative t the field required t mve an intracular particle. - And it is very rare t have ferrmagnetic material deep within the eye itself (intracular), especially withut serius cular manifestatins -- including severe inflammatin and usually prfund lss f visin. Nte: Crneal FM freign bdies (i.e., embedded in the crnea but nt intracular) are cmmn in certain prfessins, such as welding and shp wrk. Patients with crneal freign bdies almst always have pain and excessive tearing - symptms that there is smething wrng with their eye. Patients exhibiting these cular symptms must first and withut delay be referred t a cmpetent phthalmlgist prir t MRI. Questin: Can the TARGET SCANNER be used fr the chest area? Answer: YES - We d nt actively market the Target Scanner fr internal threats. Incidentally, hwever, a number f pacemakers r defibrillatrs have been fund in patients wh abslutely denied having these devices. - T maximize safety fr yur patient, screen the chest area AFTER yu have asked the patient if they have a pacemaker r defibrillatr. If the patient denies having ne f these devices, yu may certainly screen the chest area. - The passive nn-radiating DC magnetic field f the Target Scanner (100 G at ne inch, diminishing t less than 1 G at 1 ft) is significantly less than that f a pacemaker DC magnet (apprx. 160 G), and very much less than the DC permanent magnets smetimes used fr

3 ferrmagnetic threat lcatin n patients ( MRI Test Magnet = 2,500 3,000 G) and many many times less than the DC field f the MR magnet itself (15,000 30,000 G.) - Nevertheless, as a safety precautin, d nt allw the Target Scanner t rest n the chest fr prlnged perids f time. Hwever, yu may scan the chest area AFTER yu have medically cleared yur patient fr MRI. PACEMAKERS AND NEUROSTIMULATION DEVICES: As stated abve, while we d nt market the SAFESCAN Target Scanner fr finding pacemakers/neurstimulatrs and ther bjects within the bdy f the patient, the SAFESCAN Target Scanner has incidentally fund a number f pacemakers in patients wh abslutely denied them; and, based upn this histrical denial, were medically cleared t enter the huge field f the MRI machine (15,000-30,000 G). Because f the Target Scanner used as a secnd line f defense after the patient was medically cleared fr MRI these patients were saved frm the ptentially minus cnsequences f underging MRI. Fr such patients, the Target Scanner prevented a ptential disaster. Questin: Is the field f the TARGET SCANNER strng? Answer: NO - Please pardn repetitin, but this is very imprtant questin t set the recrd straight, as a recent article errneusly stated that the Target Scanner has a strng field. This is an incrrect statement: - The SAFESCAN Target Scanner emplys a small permanent magnet (DC/passive/nnradiating/n RF) t enhance detectin capability. - The use f this field increases sensitivity-detectability times vs. nt using this field, and rather relying instead nly n the Earth s field and any fringing field in the area. 1. The Target Scanner s field is apprximately 100 G at ne inch, decreasing t 1 G at 12 inches. This is NOT a strng field. 2. The Target Scanner s field is many times smaller than the MRI Test Magnet smetimes used fr patient pre-screening. The MRI Test Magnet can have a field as high as 2,500-3,000 G. 3. What abut the field f the MRI, fr which the patient has been medically cleared? Fr a duratin f 6 secnds (Target Scanner ) vs. 30 minutes (MRI), the relative time differential is sme 300 times (0.3%).

Duratin typically: minutes Questin: Hw is the Target Scanner cleaned between uses? Answer: - The SAFESCAN Target Scanner is classified as Reusable Medical Equipment, and, as such, can be readily cleaned between uses with an alchl wipe r spnge, r ther standard medical disinfectant slutin. Questin: Des the Target Scanner require peridic maintenance? Answer: - The Target Scanner ges thrugh a self-calibratin cycle every time it is turned n. - N preventative maintenance is required, but it is recmmended t visually inspect the instrument befre every use. - T make certain that the instrument is in prper wrking rder, it shuld therefre be turned ff after every use, thus allwing the self-testing t ccur. - An excellent and always available test bject is the MR Technlgist s watch dial (almst invariably ferrmagnetic). The watch dial shuld elicit an alarm respnse. - If any material, such as a paperclip, is attached t the Target Scanner s elevated red area (the scanning area), the self-testing will shw that the instrument is NOT ready fr clinical scanning. 5 ADDENDUM Physics and the ratinale fr using an independent magnetic field t increase sensitivity-detectability. - As stated abve, the use f a passive nn-radiating DC magnetic field increases sensitivitydetectability times vs. nt using this field, and rather relying instead nly n the Earth's field and any available fringing field in the area. - After yu have cleared the patient fr MRI t enter the huge field f the MRI, this Patentprtected SAFESCAN technlgy means increased safety fr yur MRI patient. Discussin - The ambient field cnsists f the Earth s field f 0.5 G, and any available fringing field frm the MRI magnet itself. With mdern shielded magnets, this fringing field utside the magnet rm/zne IV, is small, and even at the magnet rm dr, such as nly G. And this fringing field drps ff very fast t where it is virtually nil at 20 feet. S, at best, the field available t magnetize a ferrmagnetic bject is 0.5 G (Earth s field) G (fringing field when next t magnet rm dr) = 1.75 G. Nte: when ferrmagnetic detectin is perfrmed with a handheld FMD instrument which uses ONLY ambient field fr detectin, at even a shrt distance frm the magnet rm dr (and especially at distant sites (such as the ICU, the ER, etc.), the Earth s magnetic field f 0.5 G is the ONLY field present t magnetize a ferrmagnetic threat bject. In this instance, nn-detectin is mre likely t ccur. This is because the Earth s field is ften insufficient fr the detectin f many smaller ferrmagnetic threat bjects (and especially fr ferrmagnetically hard bjects). The physics f ferrmagnetic detectin is wrking against such an instrument. Based upn ur research experience, we believe that such an instrument is a less reliable prtectin tl fr yur MRI patients. When a ferrmagnetic threat is missed, the undetected ferrmagnetic threat bject ges int the magnet rm. A majr accident can nw happen. Is any instrument perfect? NO, but that stated, we strngly believe that the Target Scanner is the very best handheld ferrmagnetic detectin instrument available in the marketplace (and als the mst affrdable).
