1 Press Release For Immediate Release Cyberport and HKNGCA jointly organize the Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition to nurture young 3D animation heroes Around 300 primary and secondary students participated to portray their own heroes Hong Kong 2 December, 2013 Jointly organised by Cyberport and the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association (HKNGCA), with additional support from Create Hong Kong and the Department of Multimedia and Internet Technology of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, the 2013 Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition attracted over 299 primary and secondary students to showcase and unleash their 3D animation talents under the theme of My Hero which provided the youths with the added opportunity to showcase their appreciation for those that inspire them. The annual competition allows students to create their own 3D animation film sequences, providing the younger generation with an excellent opportunity to showcase their talent and develop their potential in terms of innovation and design with 3D animation technology. As part of the competition, participants are provided with the latest 3D animation training and cloud computing technology to create their animation works. Members of the winning team will be given the opportunity to undertake internships as well as the chance to partake in visitingprogrammes at creative multimedia companies to gain further experience in the creative digital industry. Nurturing and grooming talent has long been one of our key focuses, said Winnie, the Head of Marketing and Knowledge Centre of Cyberport. We are always delighted to see the outstanding animation works of our younger generation in this competition, which serves as an excellent platform for them to showcase their innovation and creativity. The event is proof positive that given the proper motivation and support of the latest 3D animation and cloud computing technology, young talents can create truly high-quality works. As a leading ICT hub in the Asia-Pacific Region, Cyberport sees the importance in education of young talent as a key driver of growth in the ICT industry. We will continue our efforts to foster IT legends through encouraging innovation and promoting the latest use of technology among younger generations in Hong Kong. Dr Jimmy, Centre Director of the HKNGCA Science Innovation Centre, echoed her remarks: With 3D technologies getting into our everyday life, we wish to take this opportunity to unleash the young generation s potential by leveraging their passion in technology, he said. The competition also offers the chance for the students to extend their gratitude towards their heroes using the power of 3D animation technology. The Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition was launched in 2008 with the aim to provide the younger generation with opportunities to showcase their creative talents and develop their potential technical skills. To this day it remains an integral part of the efforts undertaken by Cyberport and its partners to further develop the ICT ecosystem by nurturing young talents. During the final judging stage, finalists presented their entries to the audience and a panel of judges before taking part in a question-and-answer session. The judges were impressed by the 1

2 3D animation works and strongly praised the students tremendous creativity in addressing the My Hero theme. 5 Yee Ting, Cheng Ming Hei, Tam Hoi Kiu and Kwok Yik Kwan from Yau won the 1st Place of the 2013 Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition - II (1 Minute with The Last Chance. Wai Choi, Siu Man Kit, Wan Wai Lam and Yeung Yiu Wing from Yau won the 1st Place and the Best Creativity of the 2013 Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition - III s with Shadow. 5
