IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES To enter the Netherlands and take up temporary residence, you will need to complete the correct immigration formalities. What the immigration authorities require depends on what nationality you have, the purpose of your stay and how long you re staying in the Netherlands for. 5 2. ENROLMENT PROCEDURES Make sure your enrolment as a student is completed. You will find more information in the enrollment package. For more information please contact the Administrative Service Center: asc@codarts.nl. 3. PLACE TO LIVE Before coming to the Netherlands it is advisable to start your orientation on housing, do it as soon as possible! Read information about how to find a place to live in the Handbook Holland, included in the enrolment package, sent to you by the Administrative Service Center (ASC). 4. LANGUAGE Students who apply to Codarts must show that they have sufficient English language skills. The exact language requirements are to find in the enrolment information package ( see point 8). *(Please notice that you need to bring a legalized and translated birth certificate with you if you want to register at the City Hall. See step 8) 5

6 After arrival in the Netherlands 5. RESIDENCE PERMIT See in step 1 which requirements apply to you. Contact International Office within one week after arrival in the Netherlands. The International Office will let you know when your residence permit is ready for you at the immigration office in Rotterdam. After you receive your residence permit card, make sure you make a copy of both the front and back and give it to STIP. 6. DUTCH BANK ACCOUNTS After you have found a place to live and are registered at the City Hall you can open a Dutch bank account at ING bank (several places in centre of Rotterdam). For opening a student bank account you need to bring in the following: a proof of enrollment to Codarts (via ASC / STIP) your passport you need to have a Dutch address you have the minimum age of 18 years. Please notice that when you re under 18 years old, you need your parents or guardian with you to open a bank account. If you have questions about this, please contact Codarts International Office international@codarts.nl. 7. MEDICAL INSURANCE Medical treatment in the Netherlands is not for free. By law it is mandatory to have health insurance. REGISTRATION AT THE CITY HALL Address: Coolsingel 40 in Rotterdam (Entrance Burgerzaken, left side of the building) Open: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 8:00-16:00 and Thursday: 8:00-13:30 Required documents: passport legalized and translated birth certificate statement of enrolment from Codarts your rent contract + rent statement (to get at the City Hall) + photocopy of the landlord s passport copy of your residence permit 9. BSN NUMBER (security number) Together with your registration in the City Hall you also receive your BSN-number (security number). Please see step 8 for the required documents. You will need this number in case you would like to work. Also your bank in the Netherlands needs to know your BSN-number not later than 3 months after you have opened your bank account. 10. WORK You will receive your residence permit exclusively as a student, which means that you are not allowed to work regularly for money, except for students from most EU/EER-countries. However: non-eu/eer-citizens can work maximum 10 hours per week or full time during the months June-July-August, but in all cases the employer needs to apply for a working permit through the Central Organisation for Work and Income. Working while studying means that you are obligated (by the Dutch law) to take out basic health care insurance. If this antecedents certificate has not been completed truthfully, this will have consequences for your right of residence. I certify that: I have never been sentenced to imprisonment or a custodial measure for committing a crime; I have never been sentenced to perform community service for committing a crime; I have never been imposed an unconditional fine for committing a crime; I have never accepted an out-of-court settlement for committing a crime; I have never been imposed a penalty order by a public prosecutor for committing a crime; I am currently not subject to prosecution for committing a crime; I have never been responsible for one of the following categories of acts as referred to in Article 1F of the 1951 Refugee Convention: a crime against peace, a war crime, a crime against humanity, a serious non-political crime (for example murder or terrorism), or acts contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations (for example terrorist acts); and I am aware of the fact that a sentence for committing a crime may result in a refusal or termination of the right of residence. One year equals 60 ECTS, which means that you acquire at least 30 ECTS in one academic year for your resident permit to stay valid. - IMPORTANT: If you study in the propaedeutic phase the binding study report (BSR) regulations have to be met. You can find the BSA regulations in the Teaching and Examination Regulations (TER) on intranet - You are responsible for your own study progress. You can check your study progress in OSIRIS Student (studentosiris.codarts.nl). - You must have enough financial means to provide for yourself. The IND requires you to have at least each month (measured in January 2015). This amount is variable and changes one time a year. - It is your responsibility to have insurance with cover in the Netherlands. - You must not constitute a risk to a public order. - If your nationality requires this, you must be prepared to undergo a medical inspection for tuberculosis. 15 EXPLANATION OF THE REQUIRED FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS FOR THE RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION The IND has very strict guidelines for the proof of financial means. It is very important that you follow these guidelines exactly, otherwise your application may be denied, or at the very least seriously delayed. Required amount per month Valid until 1/6/2015 Preparatory year: (excluding tuition fee) Exchange students / Erasmus program: Regular full-time students: (excluding tuition fee) The student needs to prove that he or she has a minimum amount of 833,22 every month for living expenses. There are several ways to prove sufficient means for the study and costs of living in the Netherlands, depending on the financial situation of the student: 1. The student has sufficient financial means on her/his own bank account. If you can show proof of sufficient financial means on your own, there are two options: 1. you transfer to the Codarts bank account. The Codarts bank account information can be found on page 7 of this document. The student has been awarded a grant or scholarship. If you are granted a scholarship, send in an original statement (letter) from the granting organization. Requirements: - the amount granted - student's full name, date of birth and address - date of issue - starting date and ending date of scholarship - name and address of issuing organization/foundation - undersigned by an authorised representative of the granting organization 3. Someone in the Netherlands will provide sufficient financial means for the student. In this case the guarantor in the Netherlands has to prove that he/she has sufficient financial means for both himself/herself (plus own family, if relevant) and the student. The required documents from the guarantor: - a fully completed standard guarantee statement (an example can be found here: statement) - photocopies of his/her current employment contract, including: name and address of company/firm/employer name and date of birth of the sponsor status of employment (function, type of contract: regular/steady, temporarily if so: period of employment, working hours per week/month) - original recent employer s certificate, including: not older than 3 months issued on behalf of the sponsor (employee) name and address of the company/firm/employer type of labour contract (if temporarily: period of employment) date of issue signed by employer - photocopies of recent salary specifications (last three months), including: 16

17 name and address company/firm/employer full name and date of birth of sponsor (employee) period of salary (month and year) both gross and net wages - photocopy of his/her passport - original print out from the City Register, also confirming the marital status of the guarantor. 4. Somebody outside the Netherlands will provide sufficient financial means for the student. Sponsor is person residing outside the Netherlands In this case you should send in two documents: 1. a fully completed standard guarantee statement (an example can be found here: statement) 2. an original bank statement of the sponsor's bank 3. OR a copy of a bank draft (print of the transactions)of the sponsor's bank account Sponsor statement (letter) requirements - make sure a copy of the sponsor's passport is enclosed! - not older than 3 months - full name, date of birth, nationality and address of the sponsor - undersigned by the sponsoring person - starting date and ending date of the financial support - the monthly amount transferred to the student - full name and date of birth of the student Bank statement requirements (internet banking) - not older than 3 months - must be dated - undersigned by an authorized official from the Bank - issued on behalf of the sponsoring person - bares an account number - shows a positive balance of at least 10,000 (or equivalent in foreign currency) - makes clear that the amount can be used for immediate withdrawal (no saving account, bonds, stocks or likewise) - shows contact information from the issuing Bank (name, address e.g.) Bank draft requirements - not older than 3 months - must be dated - bank account number - name of sponsor - positive balance of at least 10,000 for both a fulltime bachelor's course or a fulltime master's course (or equivalent in foreign currency) - immediate withdrawal (no saving accounts e.g.) - contact information of the bank 17

18 - in case of an internet banking draft, it must be signed and stamped by an official from the bank Note: in case of an internet account both bank statement and bank draft must refer to the fact that the account is an internet account. Alternative In case the sponsor does not meet the requirement of having a sufficient positive balance on his bank account, a sufficient monthly income can be used instead, proven by the next two documents: 1. a copy of a labour contract stating: -name and address of the sponsor s employer - name and date of birth of the sponsor - status of employment (function, type of contract: regular/steady, temporarily (if so: period of contract), working hours per week/month) and 2. a copy of received wages (salary) of the past three months 18
