2 France Skin cancer prevention campaign Activity started in 2006 Main Field(s): Skin cancer; Solar protection Prevention of skin cancer Activity Setting: Community Pharmacies Activity run by: Pharmacists Activity Nb: 11 The National Institute on Cancer (INCa) brought together several partners to take part in a skin cancer prevention campaign. Various tools have been designed by the Ordre and the INCa, including: - practical memo for the pharmacist (to support pharmacists in thier educative mission in the field sof sun protection). 3 France No to the "toast attitude" - communication campaign on actions to prevent skin cancer Activity started in 2007 Main Field(s): To inform patient on solar prevention Activity Setting: Activity run by: Skin cancer; Solar protection Pharmacy team; Other healthcare professionals Activity Nb: 365 During summer 2007, the National Institute on Cancer (INCa) organised a communication campaign to inform paitents on the risks of skin cancer and how to prevent them. This communication campaign was relayed through city halls and through pharmacies as well as through a dedicated website. For this purpose, a patient leaflet and two posters were developed by INCa. In collaboration with INCa, the Cespharm (health promotion department of the Ordre national des pharmaciens) has developed a dedicated tool for pharmacists called a "Memo card" which summarized the key advices on solar prevention. These educational sessions were made by pharmacists, supported by educational materials with a Guide for pharmacists, as well as didactic sheets and with videos. These educational sessions were 1 hour sessions and they were handled by pharmacists on the basis of a protocol developed by the Consejo General de Colegios Oficiales de Farmacéuticos. It aims to provide patients with key information on the different types of skins and the associated level of sun protection to avoid any risk. This communication campaign was prepared by education to pharmacists and consisted of dissemination of leaflets in community pharmacies. The campaign highlighted the need for sun protection at any time and always during an outdoor activity. The theme of this edition appears on all campaign materials (poster and brochures given to users who request advice on sun protection or sunscreen products). With the image of the campaign, pharmacists wanted to emphasize, first, the skin photoprotection, and secondly, the physical sun protection (use of hats, shirts, sunglasses and umbrellas). The motto of this campaign was: Contra el sol diario, sé solidario con tu piel [Against the daily exposure to sun, help your skin] The campaign materials were disseminated in the 507 pharmacies of the province. The materials highlighted that patients should not expose themselves without a proper solar protection and that this protection should be based on the type of skin they have. It focused on key information to prevent sun burn, on solar prevention and provided responses to false ideas. 14 Photoprotection Your pharmacist informs you Activity started in 2010 Main Field(s): To educate people on sun and effective way to avoid skin damage (through solar protection). Activity Setting: Activity run by: Skin cancer; Solar protection - Pharmacy team; Pharmaceutical organisations Activity Nb: 434 Through its working group on Dermopharmacy, the Consejo General de Colegios Oficiales de Farmacéuticos in collaboration with Ladival, organised the 2010 campaign on Sun protection. Participating pharmacists were first educated on sun protection and then, the campaign was launched to the public. This campaign was officially recognised by the Ministry of Health as an activity of health interest. It consists of posters and leaflets made available in community pharmacies, as well as an itinerant exhibition in over 40 cities, to inform people on the importance of sun protection. This itinerant exhibition included a simulator to enable people to have an idea on how their skills will be in 10 years time pharmacists took part in this 2010 campaign leaflets were disseminated through community pharmacies. Pharmacists taking part in this campaign have received dedicated training on this topic so that they can provide patients with evidence-based advice regarding testing and personnal risks for skin cancer. In case of any suspiscion, pharmacists invited patients to consult a dermatologist on 5 May 2008 (where free consultations were available). More than 500 pharmacies took part in this campaign.
