2 TAFE Queensland English Language and Literacy Services (TELLS) TELLS provides state-wide oversight and strategic contract management of two Commonwealth funded programs: Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) Funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) Language Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP) Funded by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) TELLS also coordinates delivery of English language classes for clients on: Community Detention (CD) Bridging Visa E (BVE) Funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) 9/04/2013 2

6 AMEP Eligibility & Enrolment Under18 years of age 18 years of age/older Have a Permanent Residency Visa/under parents Spouse Visa Be years of age Less than functional level of English Be living in Australia as a permanent resident for less than 1 year Not attending school Have an override application to DIAC approved Have a Permanent Residency Visa/Spouse Visa Less than functional level of English Be registered within 6 months of the date their visa commences Must start classes within 1 year of the date their visa commences Eligible students have 5 years to complete classes These timeframes may be extended in special circumstances 9/04/2013 9/04/2013 6

9 Student Entitlements in the AMEP Eligible migrants and refugees can study English with the AMEP for Up to 510 hours or; until they reach functional English, whichever comes first The Special Preparatory Program (SPP) provides: An extra 100 hours of intense support An extra 400 hours for young people between the ages of 15 to 24 years who have had less than 7 years of schooling Free basic childcare for eligible AMEP/SPP students who, Are enrolled and attending AMEP/SPP course Have children under school age 9/04/2013 9

11 Language, Literacy & Numeracy Program (LLNP) Skills for Education & Employment (SEE) as at July 1, 2013 Free for Registered Job Seekers who: Are not attending school Are referred to TAFE by Centrelink/Employment Service Providers Up to 800 hours of free accredited language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) training for eligible job seekers with low LLN skills. LLNP Purpose: Language, literacy and numeracy skill gains Job Seeker skills increased Access to, and knowledge of, pathways to employment and vocational training 9/04/
