1 Lean Six Sigma (Hybrid) Description: Six Sigma training provides participants with enhanced problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) model with simple and effective waste-reducing tools of lean. Six Sigma Certification helps the employee serve as a trained team member within his or her function-specific area of the organization. The focus allows the to work on small, carefully defined Six Sigma projects to gain hands-on experience with tools such as process mapping, project scoping, value stream mapping, and analysis. Learning Objectives: After completing this course, participants will be able to understand: Your role as a and how it fits within the Lean Six Sigma community How to use the DMAIC methodology to scope, define and lead projects How to apply Lean concepts such as 5S, Waste Reduction, Process Mapping, Value Stream Mapping and Mistake Proofing. Basic statistical analysis to determine the relationship between key inputs and process outputs. How to effectively manage team dynamics when working on projects. How to present projects to peers and managers, and transition projects to process owners. When you graduate, you will have both the skills and confidence you need to succeed as a Lean Six Sigma. WHO SHOULD ATTEND Anyone who wishes to lead functional area projects or assist other Belts with projects. No previous Six Sigma experience is required (Prior statistical experience is helpful or Yellow Belt). 4 Welcome to the Hybrid Certification class offered by San Jacinto College Business & Professions department. We will begin with a 1-hr Pre-class on Saturday, Feb 15, 2014 at 9:00a.m. The pre-class will layout the class structure, expectations and the requirements of you before, during and after the class. It will also cover some six sigma basics. You will be getting your first assignment. The pre-class will cover: 1. Introduction to the course. A very basic overview of Six Sigma Certification. 2. Access and use of the SJC E-learning portal. This course is a blended course meaning that it also includes a requirement to complete some e-learning modules that will cover various aspects of Six Sigma and introductory statistics. You enrolled in the on-line courses when you enrolled in the curriculum through San Jacinto College. The on-line courses need to be completed before each class session as described in the course agenda below. The on-line courses will take 22 hours for LSS to complete. You will take a portion of the courses prior to week 1 and a portion prior to week 2 for the LSS. You may take them at your convenience. 3. Project identification and definition. In order to demonstrate mastery of the six sigma body of knowledge, we require the completion of an improvement project. You will complete your project by successful completion of Capstone Team Project. 4. Laptop computer It is not necessary for you to bring your own laptop computer with Microsoft Excel. You will be provided computers in classroom Minitab that provides six sigma and statistical tools. 5. Class Materials You will be provided the class presentation materials in 3-ring binder. Other materials and files will be available through the e-learning Portal.
