2 Welcome! FROM THE COORDINATOR Welcome to Edina Public Schools Edina Family Center. We offer Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), Preschool, Parenting Education, and part time childcare to families with young children. Our staff of parent educators and early childhood professionals are excited to help your family and children during the critical early years to help them grow into strong and healthy adults. We are excited and ready to support your family with your first Edina Public Schools experience. Many classes fill quickly, so please register early. GETTING STARTED The age of your child as of September 1, 2013 determines your class for the entire school year. Resident tuition is for ISD 273 residents; Non-resident tuition applies for any non ISD 273 residents. Edina Family Center is a program of Edina Community Education Services of Edina Public Schools. ECFE is Guaranteed Affordable No one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Our fees have not increased and sliding fees are available. Depending on your family income and size, you may qualify for a 20-80% fee discount. Your call for information on financial assistance will be handled with respect and confidentiality. Two Year Old Program Choose a one day ECFE class or 2 day class with ECFE day and preschool day. Each day includes large muscle play, art activities and circle time. Children need not be toilet trained. Preschool Program The Edina Family Center offers classes that focus on each child s social, physical and pre-academic development. Children need not be toilet trained. Child Care Our child care program goes beyond the basic babysitting service others offer, providing a gentle and loving atmosphere for children 6 weeks through Kindergarten. School Readiness School Readiness helps families with children, 3 ½ to 5 years old, prepare for a successful school experience. *What is ECFE? Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) provides interactive, educational programs for parents and their children ages birth through preschool. From full-year and short term classes to playtime and special events, ECFE programs: Provide expert advice to help guide your parenting decisions and practices. Offer shared parenting/caregiver experiences that will foster new family friendships and relationships. Support your child s healthy development through engaging activities. Give families a chance to step away from the rapid pace of today s world and ease family stress.

All of the Edina Family Center classrooms are inclusive and staffing patterns are determined by the individual needs of each classroom. The Edina Family Center Preschool is proud to be part of the Edina Public Schools, a partnership of over 25 years. Enrolling in our Preschool helps ensure that each child has an excellent early educational experience with licensed staff that collaborates with Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), Edina Kindergarten teachers, the Literacy Coordinator and the School Readiness Supervisor to create foundations for future learning. 12 Child Care ECFE Sibling Care When attending an ECFE parenting class, you may need care Age for your other child(ren). Care begins 15 minutes prior to the start of class and ends 15 minutes after your ECFE class. Infant (6 weeks-15 months) We take children as early as 6 weeks old. Register for sibling Toddler (16-32 months) care at the same time you are registering for an ECFE class. If Pre-School (33 months-grade K) you are due to have a baby during the school year and will need sibling care, please let us know the date you anticipate needing care. Infants are welcome in parenting class until 4 months of age. Your child will spend time in age appropriate activities under the supervision of our highly trained, dedicated childcare staff. Fee $10.00 Per Class $10.00 Per Class $10.00 Per Class BLOCK TIME Registration for the school year begins online in June. If you want a few hours to yourself every week or to create an extended day for your child: Block time is offered on a space available basis Up to3 hours a day, 9 hours per week Up to 4 hours a day, 12 hours per week (pre-schoolers only). You do not need to be registered for a class to use this service. To extend your child s day, sign up for extra time before or after their scheduled class, children are escorted by EFC classroom staff to/from the childcare center. DROP IN TIME To accommodate your child when something comes up at the last minute or for occasional activities. Non-refundable once the reservation has been booked. 13 School Readiness SCHOOL READINE School Readiness helps families with children 3 ½ to 5 years old prepare for a successful school experience. If you have concerns or needs for your family or young children and are not eligible for services from other local programs, School Readiness may be for you. School Readiness includes, home visits, access to parenting resources, assistance with pre-school experience and scholarship information. For more information contact Mary Streier at or marystreier@edina.k12.mn.us. FINANCIAL AISTANCE ISD #273 residents only: We never want fees to be the reason you don t attend ECFE! A sliding fee scale based on household size and income is available on our website or the School Readiness page. Requests are confidential. ISD 273 Residents: Online registration for the Edina Family Center Classes and Sibling Care begins on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 8:00 AM. Non District Residents: Online Registration for the Edina Family Center Classes and Sibling Care begin on Thursday, January 14, 2013 at 8:00 AM. CLA CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellations must be received in writing or by by May 6, 2013 to receive a full tuition refund. Registration fees are nonrefundable. ONE DAY CLAES: A $50.00 cancellation fee will be applied beginning May 6, 2013 MULTIPLE DAY CLAES: May 2014 tuition is nonrefundable beginning May 6, 2013 ONLINE REGISTRATION To begin your registration please follow these easy steps: 1. Volunteers work in all nine schools to offer basic skills help, homework help, and speak as a resource.
