2 Introduction Cal State L.A. provides a Gigabit Wi-Fi network for students, faculty, and staff. This handout covers how to connect to the Cal State L.A. Wi-Fi network using a Windows 7 device. For more information, please visit the Wireless Network Access website. NOTE: Users must have an active mycsula Identity account and must be in a wireless hot spot to connect to the campus Wi-Fi network. Configuring Your Device When connecting to the Cal State L.A. Wi-Fi network for the first time, users must connect to the open network (CSULA-OPEN) and configure their device before they can connect to the secure network (CSULA-SECURE). NOTE: After performing the initial setup, users will need to update their device s Wi-Fi password whenever they change their mycsula Identity password. To configure your device: 1. Click the Wireless Network icon in the Notification area of the Taskbar. 2. The Wireless Network Connection window appears and displays a list of available wireless networks. Click to select CSULA-OPEN, and then click the Connect button (see Figure 1). Figure 1 CSULA-OPEN Selected in the Wireless Network Connection Window 3. Once connected, launch Internet Explorer. The web browser redirects you to the Cal State L.A. wireless website. 4. On the Wireless Network Access page, click the Student button or the Faculty or Staff button (see Figure 2). On the Wireless Network Access for Students or Wireless Network Access for Faculty and Staff page, in the Configure your personal device section, click the Windows 7 button (see Figure 3). 4 7. On the Notification bar, click the Run button (see Figure 5). Figure 5 Notification Bar 8. The QuickConnect Wizard window opens. On the Welcome tab, click the Next button (see Figure 6). Figure 6 Welcome Tab of the QuickConnect Wizard Window 9. Enter your mycsula Identity username and password in the corresponding fields, and then click the Next button (see Figure 7). Figure 7 Welcome Tab with Login Fields 10. A Security Warning dialog box opens asking if you want to install a certificate from localonboard.calstatela.edu. Click the Yes button (see Figure 8). 5 Figure 8 Security Warning Dialog Box 11. On the Configure tab, wait for the system configuration to complete, and then click the Connect button (see Figure 9). 6 Figure 10 Summary Tab of the QuickConnect Wizard Window Onboarding Your Device (Faculty and Staff Only) When connecting to the Cal State L.A. Wi-Fi network for the first time, faculty and staff can configure their device using the onboarding feature. Onboarding installs a certificate on the user s device that will automatically recognize them and connect their device to the secure Wi-Fi network each time they enter the campus. NOTE: Onboarding is limited to three devices per person. Onboarding certificates expire annually at which time faculty and staff will need to repeat the onboarding process. To onboard your device: 1. Click the Wireless Network icon in the Notification area of the Taskbar. 2. The Wireless Network Connection window appears and displays a list of available wireless networks. 7 3. Once connected, launch Internet Explorer. The web browser redirects you to the Cal State L.A. wireless website. 4. On the Wireless Network Access page, click the Faculty or Staff button (see Figure 12). Figure 12 Wireless Network Access Page 5. On the Wireless Network Access for Faculty and Staff page, in the Onboard your personal device section, click the Onboard button (see Figure 13). 8 6. On the Register Your Device page, enter your mycsula Identity username and password in the corresponding fields, and then click the Log In button (see Figure 14).
