3 Electronic Books E-books offer the convenience of being available to you 24/7 from any computer with an Internet connection. NC Live and Moye Library offer you a huge number of electronic books from several different collections. The e-book collections are comprised of mostly non-fiction titles that support the various curricula of Mount Olive College. The titles can be searched in two ways: o From the MOC online catalog o From the NC LIVE e-book portal Some of the e-book databases allow you to download the books onto your personal tablets. Ready-made citations are available for most electronic books from the databases. A search within the entire book tool is available for e-books from EbscoHost.

4 Accessing E-books through the Online Catalog Here is a standard search in the online Moye Library catalog: Notice the first result from the seach is an e-book. Simply click on the link to be taken to the item in the e-book database in NC LIVE. This blue icon indicates an electronic resource.

5 Filtering for E-books in the Online Catalog Below is an Enhanced Search in the Moye Library online catalog: Notice that the searcher has filtered for e-books in this search by choosing the options in the drop-down box in the upper right and choosing e-books. If you do not filter for e-books, your results will still contain e-books if they are available for your search topics. Look for the blue square to the left of the title, indicating that the item is an e-book.

6 Accessing the E-Book Portal in NC LIVE To access the e-book portal in NC LIVE, choose the Electronic Databases link from the library homepage.

7 Once on the Electronic Databases page, choose NC LIVE.

8 Once on the NC LIVE homepage, choose the E-book icon in the middle of the page.

9 The E-book portal gives you an integrated search for 6 e-book databases. Using the search box on this page allows you to search all of the e-book databases at once. Enter your search term(s) here. Here are the six e-book databases.

10 Results Page Here is a part of the results page from the search. Notice that there were 100 books found that contained information about separation anxiety and children. The search could be further refined and narrowed to reduce the number of results and to make the items more pertinent to your search query. You could add another search term or select a field to further narrow your search.

Select a Field to make the search more specific The searcher is telling the program to find all articles with separation anxiety in the title. Results went from 100 to 1 by selecting the title field.

12 Using the EbscoHost E-book Reader After clicking on the title of an e-book in the Results list, find the publication information about the book. Find the ebook Full Text link on the right. Use it to open the e-book reader for this item. The Tools contain features to print, save, and the bibliographic information about the book. Also, there is a Cite button to access the ready-made citations for the item.

13 Navigating the E-book in the E-book Reader Tools to help manage the book: cite, print, save, , etc. The Table of Contents of the book Buttons to navigate the book: forward one page, back one page, go to certain page number, increase text, full page view, etc.

14 Search Within Feature One of the most valuable features in the EbscoHost e- book reader is the search within tool. Clicking on this tool, opens a search box that allows you to search for a word or phrase within the entire book. This tool mimics using the index in a print book but with much less page turning. Search Within Tool Enter search word or phrase.

15 After entering your search term(s), the next screen will give all the page numbers on which that word or phrase resides. If you need help with finding or using an e-book, be sure to contact a librarian at Moye Library for help!
