2 Off Campus Library Services Research involves locating magazines, books, encyclopedias, websites, etc., to give you information so you can write a paper. The Off Campus Library Services homepage is the best place to start your research: Associate Library Instruction 2

3 What is Available to You! From the library homepage, you have access to: Magazine/journal articles are available through our article databases. Reference books are available through our Virtual Reference Library database. The online library catalog helps you find regular books or search the e-book collection directly. Journal search engine helps you locate full text articles at IWU. Associate Library Instruction 3

4 What you will need before you begin using a database A library access number This number will be ed to you from OCLS to your MY account or call OCLS. 5 Online Databases Finding Articles for Your Research

6 Databases for IT For more business specific topics, use Business Source Complete, under Business. For more IT topics, use Academic Search Complete, under General. Associate Library Instruction 6

8 Locate one of the previously mentioned databases. This search will show Business Source Complete. Associate Library Instruction 8

10 Click on Thesaurus to discover the best way to search for your topic. Using their words helps you get the most relevant articles on your topics. Associate Library Instruction 10

11 Type your topic in the box. Click on Browse. Associate Library Instruction 11

12 This one is a good example of one using their language, not yours. If you do not see any match, think of synonyms and try again or go to the top search box and search by keyword. You will then get articles that contain your term. Associate Library Instruction 12

13 Check mark as many as you feel are relevant to your research. You may want to check mark APPLICATION servers (Computer software), too. Associate Library Instruction 13

15 We get quite a few results! You can check mark Full Text on the left side and limit to only the full text articles. You can also limit to just the scholarly articles and/or change the date range. Associate Library Instruction 15

19 How can I access an e-book through IWU? Click on: Ebrary or EBSCO ebooks. Authenticate (like you did for articles). Associate Library Instruction 19

20 Enter your topic to view a list of e-books that contain your term. They will be sorted with the most relevant listed first. To make the results more relevant, quotation marks were used around the term. Use when your topic is more than 2 words. Associate Library Instruction 20

21 By clicking on the title or the Table of Contents, you have full access to the entire book! Associate Library Instruction 21

22 Navigation controls for the e-book are on the top and side of the window. They include details about the book, downloading options, copying, printing, sharing a link, highlighting, adding notes, adding bookmarks, etc. Associate Library Instruction 22

23 By creating an account, you can create your own Bookshelf of favorite books and can add notes and highlighting as well as download books.. Associate Library Instruction 23

To find a regular book, use the IWU Library Catalog (or your local public library).
